Nice reel - a bit over my price range, and at that price range I’d probably opt for something from overseas. But that’s pretty normal for Scandinavia items.
I’d love to see them attempt to produce baitcasters/trigger rods for something other than northern pike.
I’m currently going to be attempting for sea trout this summer with a rod similar to the Shimano poison ultima. Far from what is typically used in that type of fishing. But with good practice with the baitcast reel I reckon I can cast far enough.

Hoping to get a Shimano DC reel some day to deal with the windy conditions in Denmark sea fishing.

Yes DC reels are great in windy conditions

    Pros are nice.
Cons - this reel is almost impossible for repair and there will be no parts available in market.
So - use as it lasts, enjoy and if it fail - forget it.

    And the brake system?

I’m sure it will do fine. Centrifugal brakes with 6 pins. Looks solid.

I have two of their rods. Great rods and great value.
I won't be buying their reels. It takes a lot if time to get reel design and manufacturing down.
Of course having said that they are probably made by a large manufacturer and just changed cosmetically.

These smaller brands should just stay away from reels.. they have nowhere near budget to make their own anyways.

Westin is absolutely not a smaller brand, it’s just mostly present in Denmark. The reels are mostly targeted towards northern pike fishing (likely why the size isn’t such a big factor).
There are also plenty of small brands making quality reels especially from Asia.

If I remember correctly the Westin reel was designed to withstand colder temperatures with specific oils when fishing for pike in the winter in Scandinavia.

@@matkz22 Do u even realise how expensive it is to produce a entire reel.. its like 50 parts so u need 50 entire production lines and a couple assembly lines just to make 1 reel. (thats a big ass factory with a 2000+ workforce).. All these asian companies are just sourcing parts.. maybe buy a few stamps for the body.. put a logo on there and be done with it. Just getting 3-4 stamps for the body costs a couple of million. Most small companies dont even spend that much they just go for a body type that is already sourced (premade stamps) and then put a logo on there.
To design a reel with all workings, and then produce it its a couple hundred million dollar thing.. not a thing any of these small companies can just take a risk on. Other then a shimano/daiwa.. and the generic parts makers..
Westin does have some nice baits though.. but not getting the hype otherwize.

The reels are probably just a mix of parts already available in an oversea factory with the Westin brand sticked on them. Just like Lews, Abu, Okuma, Quantum etc. I would rather spend my money on quality reels from Daiwa or Shimano
