I can't stand hearing people talking so much and so fast! I do know ASL but i also am a very great lip reader. It frustrates me when hearing people hear me talk but then think im hearing. I grew up in an all hearing family so me being deaf is challenging in my family. I do wear hearing aids but sometimes i like to not have them in, its peaceful that way. :) Even when hearing peoples go back and forth and i'm there like, "One of you talk at a time!". Deaf/HOH struggles :)

The struggle!!! I think this is why we need schools to start teaching about the Deaf/HoH so hearing people in the future will understand. Sometimes I feel like sometimes hearing people only get it when they are suddenly 80 or 90 and they lose their hearing. lol! I also take out my hearing aids. It's super peaceful and I don't have to try to listen to anyone..... we're pretty lucky to have that power lol :)

My friend wore his ipad with music on, then went to buy train tickets and kept his ipad on, to try to experience what it's like to not hear properly. He found it sooooo difficult and it really opened his eyes.

    Hi Jessica .
My name is Lulu and I’m a 19 year old who wears earplugs or headphones everyday and I have done since 2009 I don’t think I will have any problems doing this challenge
The main reason why I use earplugs or headphones everyday is because sudden loud noises cause me to worry that I may in fact lose my hearing .

Hey there Jessica, thanks for putting up another great video!
    Quick update:
The headaches aren't as frequent or as harsh as when I first starting wearing my hearings aids. I've been working with my audiologist resolve that issue. The feedback is being adjusted and the ear molds are being adjusted so they dont put as much pressure in my ears. But I do want to say we are making progress.
And I'm also looking into getting a streamer and getting my t coils set up so I can have better access at places that offer accommodations for the deaf and HoH.

Sounds awesome! yeah hearing aids take some adjustments. I usually have to go back every now and then to ask them to boost up the volume or fix the ear molds. But I am glad you are getting them adjusted! :D

I think I'm going to be doing something like this over the summer. I'll probably get ear plugs or something like that but instead of a day, it'll be a week. I think this will help me improve on my sign language and also understand what the dDeaf and HOH people have to go through

I am going deaf quickly so my wife and I are learning ASL so we can still communicate. One challenge you might suggest. Find a deaf social in your area and attend. This is better with some grasp of ASL. I have only learned the basics but learning more day by day. These socials help me communicate and learn ASL but at the same time are very emotionally taxing and wear me out for now. I am amazed at how well people can communicate and the speed at which they can sign. Especially with contact signing (I want to learn this some day too). I hope that soon I will be able to communicate and understand ASL when it is signed that fast. I also want to say that the deaf social I attend is very accommodating for my level of ASL. There is always someone there that is willing to slow down and sign with me. I am enjoying your youtube videos. Keep up the great work.

Hi Jess! I have to ask people to write stuff down for me quite a bit. What I find humorous is, after asking, those who look at me as if I've just asked them to slap their mother. 😂 Also the ones who, after I've had them repeat themselves a few times and have resigned to asking them to write it down, continue to repeat themselves. It gets aggravating.

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад +2

It's never ending lol. Sometimes I'll look at them with a confused face so they will repeat what they said again. Then i'll keep looking confused to see how many times they actually repeat themselves before trying a different way to communicate.

What are these PINKIES in your ear?? I stumbled over your video while looking for ways of making my SSD visible and I wondered if these are your hearing or some popping plugs you’re wearing 🌺

Some time last year, my ears started behaving oddly. There wasn't thing as "turned down enough for my comfort." I ended up with earplugs in if I wasn't alone. Have you ever seen an AlphaSmart? I got my own for those days until my hearing went back to my normal. I had to convince my husband that I was still okay to drive. Two frustrating moments: I was planning the story I'm writing now that features a CODA with Meniere's who's losing her own hearing now and a hearing woman she starts dating- my husband said "Just write yourself back into normal hearing." Yeah, he meant it cute; I didn't hear it as cute. And then I tried to watch a church service on RUclips (I'm a Unitarian Universalist and go to the online Church of the Larger Fellowship.) Unfortunately while captioning has been discussed, it hasn't been seriously pursued. So what I knew to be the senior minister saying "So I invite you..." (the beginning of a prayer time) became "So I bite you..." because auto-captions suck.

Joelle Casteel ....what does CODA mean? I Google it but all it came up with was panic and music which didn't fit the context you were saying. Thanks

      Joelle Casteel ....thank you!

No problem, samiamisme. A suggestion in the future: if you see an acronym like CODA (and there are several more in use in the Deaf community), if the person doesn't explain, Google "Deaf community" and the acronym. You should have better luck that way.

"So I bite you..." LOL! Love the funnies that come up from voice to text on my phone and auto-captions on RUclips etc. Once my phone converted "an outbreak of pneumococcal virus" to "an outbreak of men in Chicago" aaaah haaa haaa...

I just though of Challenge #6. Going to the lecture with ear plug on.
I am sure I can pass this challenge because all along, I have absolutely no idea what the lecturer was teaching. I passed by examination by trying out the tutorial.

Chris Simpson I am in this same situation. It kinda sucks not being able to socialize with deaf, HoH, and hearing signers. I am literally the only person other than my asl teacher who knows how to sign.
