I am a mobile dog groomer. The pump in my van went out, but I remembered having a spare. The spare was 10 years old, and made noise like it was working, but no water was flowing. It was exactly what you said, the diaphragm was sticking. I am back to work, and only lost half a day! Thanks for your help!
You are a lifesaver! My fiancé and I arrived to our camp spot for 4th of July ready to cut loose only to find water pump wasn’t working. After several hours of troubleshooting and just about ready to go buy a new pump, we found your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the direct, simple, easy to follow and understandable video!!!!
I went to winterize my 60 gal UTV sprayer before 21 degrees hits us tomorrow night when the sprayer pump stopped working! I was so glad I found your video. It was very helpful and got my winter solution through the pump and system to put it to bed for the winter just in time. Thank you!!!
Thanks, Chris. You nailed it. I pondered the ridiculous Shurflo troubleshooting guide that came with my camper, watched two 9 minute RUclips videos made by guys who know less than I do, and finally came across your video. My check valve seemed to be jammed by an o-ring up in the valve that became loose and got down in the valve's travel chamber. I wonder if that came from a bit of water freezing in the pump over the winter. (I winterize by just blowing out the lines and pumping it dry. I used the pink RV antifreeze once--never again.) There was no other debris or calcification in my check valve. A couple of notes for other lost souls: 1) I tagged one of the wires going into the top of the pump so that I'd rehook it properly; not sure if it matters. 2) My pump needed a P1 screwdriver to unscrew the manifold screws. The factory had way overtorced them, so a P2 wouldn't work. 3) Screws with flat washers go in the corners; screws with lock washers go in the middles (duh!). 4) A 2mm or 5/64 allen wrench works the flow adjust set screw on top of the manifold. I've read that some people have fixed this problem by cranking it all the way down, and then backing off on it while the pump is running; i.e., crank it all the way down, run it a little, back off, run it a little, etc. I didn't try this, and don't know what effect it would have on the pump, but it might be worth a shot if you are stuck in the boonies and don't feel like removing and replacing the dang thing. Again, THANKS Chris! My camper manufacturer suggested that this issue may require replacing the pump. That's $70-$80 bucks out the door, and a perfectly good pump in the landfill!
I just found your site. I spent about 8 hours trying to find an air leak. After following your instructions, I found the problem - the valve was stuck. Thanks
Chris, thank you. We got out to the electric only campsite with a full freshwater tank, and…a non functioning pump. I took it apart, and sure enough, that check valve was stuck. Saved me the pump replacement cost. Again, thank you. Now there seems to be a very slight leak at one of the PEX joints on the pressurized side of the pump, but that can wait til I get home…
My water pump is behind the toilet under the shower. What a pain to get to. Once I removed it I followed your procedure and yay it works again. Thank you very much Sir!!!
Saved me buying a new pump today buddy! We where hooked to water line all summer and hadn't used the pump since last year, tried everything, watched your video, check valve was stuck just Like yours, thanks man.
Thanks for giving me the courage to open the pump! I was thinking it just wasn't primed but couldn't figure out how to easily get water in the pump.. I finally opened up the pump and found plastic shavings from who knows where stuck in the rubber valves. After 10 minutes of cleaning and reassembly, I got instant water from the sink!
First of all, thank you for your video! I was able to fix mine in about 20 minutes. Note to all: this happened to me with a brand new unit (shurflo 4008). The regulator was actually pushed through to my side (pushing side), and I had to force it through. Once pushed through, boom-water suction! So glad I saw this. Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks for this. I just tapped my marine pump and it miraculously started working again. Saved me a day's lost work as I have to get this boat through a long lock flight.
Hey thanks for the video! I tried everything to get my pump going without having to purchase a new one. It was the check valve. It was stuck pretty good.😊
Thank you for taking your time and posting this on youtube... I have a pump that runs and won't pump water. I will take it apart and see what I come up with..
YOU are the MAN! I'm working on a 2012 Bay boat with a fresh water wash down and the water pump was working but no pressure. I did what you said except used a silicone spray for the rubber to hydrate it, works like a charm. Saved me mucho mula!!! Thanks you-thank you, thank you! Brian
Oh yea, it is a 2011 SHURFLO 3901 - 0206 A Question though, it was originally installed with the canister on top and the plastic on bottom. Does it matter what is up or down? Thanks again, Brian
Thank you! Wish we'd had internet camping so I could have seen this video and had running water. I tapped on the pump and immediately had running water.
BINGO! Chris. Thank you for posting. I was about to cut the wires and replace this pump, but checked the WWW first. It is a relatively new pump. We had the camper on city water for a while so it never ran. The power wire was long enough so I pulled it out onto the floor, removed the cover, pushed lightly on the small valve and it broke right free. I would not even have thought to check this except for your video. I dug out the original OEM pump that I had to replace once when on the road, pulled the cover (it was a slightly different design), but sure enough the valve was stuck too. Now I have a spare pump :D . Ours has an in-line removable screen filter - I agree with you on adding one. I cannot imagine the crude I cleaned out of that filter going through the pump.
I looked all over online for a fox for my problem. I found tour video. What you posted is exactly what I was experiencing and we are on a kind trip. You fox worked perfectly. The valve was stuck and I had to push it to get it to move. Reconnected the water and we are good to go. Thank you for the video!!
Awesome video, I watched and opened up my pump after it was running but not pumping. Found the pressure switch round bit which you had stuck also. Overnight the water must have frozen and expanded. The rubber seal was jammed into the mechanism. Pulled it apart and put back together just using the same seals as I had none spare and it worked perfect. Cheers again!
Chris, thank you very much for this video, you saved me money. I have a 2019 Winnebago Outlook 22C motorhome and without any warning the pump stopped working. After watching your video, I took it apart and the problem was on the round valve, it was stuck. There was no calcium deposits, but it would not open. I first tried tapping the whole pump and it didn't work. I then took it apart and I pushed on the valve twice and put it back together and now it works. Thank you so much.
Thanks! Sticky valve on mine was causing the pump to pulse on and off all the time trying to regulate. Had ordered a new pump on Amazon but won’t be needing it now!
I drained my RV water system over winter and the pump did not work come spring. As per this video, I took the shurflo pump apart and unstuck the regulator and boom lots of suction. Much thanks!
I had a working pump but no water coming from the tap. I watched several RUclips videos and generally followed lots of suggestions. Finally after dismantling and reassembling various parts I found the problem. It was simply calcium deposits in the aerator. A splash of vinegar sorted the problem. Motto: look for there simple things first.
Thank you, one of these were my problem and it "fixed" it, but I think I messed with it too much before seeing this video and it is louder than before, so I think I will just get a new pump. But this worked all the way!
Dude you fixed mine. My problem was that there was a small piece of the manufactured vinyl on the inside of the pump that had been left in there. Once I pulled the troublesome piece out, turn pump on everything works like magic.
The pump on my boat stopped pumping water. The pump makes noise but no water. I'll open it up tomorrow and try this. Hopefully it works. The wife needs running water apparently. Who knew 🤣🤣
The check valve on mine was stuck. I was surprised at how much pressure it took to get it to move. I wonder if CLR poured in there then flushed will help prevent it from sticking again in the near future. Mine failed while on a 5 month trip across the country. We used it a couple days, then about a week later in a Walmart parking lot if failed.
Mine keeps freezing and breaking its bolts though I have tried to cover it. So now the head is held on by 2 bolts and two clamps. It has been permanently on for a few years so retirement might be a thing.
I have one of these struggling to switch it on to try see if it works as just bought a 1980s merc Motorhome and I need this to work is there a switch someone on the pump to switch it on ?

Thanks so much, mine had exactly the problem you've described. 30 mins work and now it's running perfectly
Hey thanks for the video! I tried everything to get my pump going without having to purchase a new one. It was the check valve. It was stuck pretty good.😊
Please subscribe... I'm trying to get to 500! I'm glad I worked.
#1 worked! I was stressing prior to leaving for a dry camp and we have water! Thanks Chris!
Thank you for taking your time and posting this on youtube... I have a pump that runs and won't pump water. I will take it apart and see what I come up with..
Thanks for the simple explanation of this Pump. It helps a lot. Keep doing this easy illustration.

Chris you really helped out with your video. After watching and following your directions, the water pump is working again. Many thanks.
I’m glad it worked
My travel trailer has been sitting unused for about 2 years, I had the water pump running in 10 minutes because of this video.
So great, thank you
You saved our camping weekend man, the valve was stuck, exactly what you described. I'm more than grateful!

My pump was a little different (3 instead of 4 pistons), but your procedure worked perfectly. Thanks for posting.
You're welcome
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. No water to following beautifully in 25 minutes.
Glad it was helpful! please subscribe
Perfect, took less than 15 minutes to sort the problem… was exactly what you said it would be!!👍🏻👍🏻

Very helpful video. You just saved me $100. Mine had been setting and after a few whacks with the screwdriver handle she went right to pumping. 👍
If only there was a way to get 1 percent of that!
Thank you Sir, I followed your instructions and sure enough that little back flow valve was stuck. Works great now.

Thanks for the demo. The stuck check valve was exactly what was wrong with my pump. Thanks again.
Your video helped me fix my pump thanks so much saved $80
I'm know that shurflo won't be sending me any sponsor money anytime soon!

Great video. Had us up and running in no time. Thanks so much!! :)

Diaphragm not stuck, no debris inside, screen is clean and still not pumping water......any ideas? 5 year old pump.
Where can i find the cockpit ?
Mine keeps freezing and breaking its bolts though I have tried to cover it. So now the head is held on by 2 bolts and two clamps. It has been permanently on for a few years so retirement might be a thing.
Any recommendations for winterizing ? Run it dry ? Anti freeze ? Etc
I have one of these struggling to switch it on to try see if it works as just bought a 1980s merc Motorhome and I need this to work is there a switch someone on the pump to switch it on ?
What if the pump stopped running? It was running kind of loud, but no water pressure. Now it's not running at all
Mine was doing that, turned out the check valve was stuck.
