I love how the inspector knows exactly what Frank does and what he's into, but plays along with Frank's lies because he can't prove they're lies. All three Transporter movies are decent, though in my opinion, this one was the best of the three.
    Couple of fun facts:
    1. In the TV commercial for this movie, when the bad guys are attacking Frank's lighthouse, they fire a rocket into the kitchen through an open window. Frank holds up a baking sheet at an angle to the rocket's path, deflecting it back out of the house through another open window. I guess they realized this was too unbelievable, so it was cut from the movie.
    2. According to the director commentary, Shu Qi (who plays Lai) doesn't speak English. She learned her lines phonetically, not really knowing what she was actually saying.

Luc Besson, an insanely good French movie director. He just doesn't do standard movies.
What you are seeing is the French Cote d'Azur , the Azur Coast off southern France. A beautiful Mediterranean setting. The movie set in Nice, the chase was along the famous Promenade des Anglais, a very broad avenue right along the beach of Nice. Nice is located right next door to Monaco, a tiny kingdom along the French -Italian border.
So everything you see here is southern France.
The French have a, let's say, notorious disregard of the English, so Statham portraying an English ex- military criminal taunting a French criminal investigator is particularly 'spicy'. Despite their extremely polite relationship both know that they are bullshitting each other, and they know, the other one knows, etc pp. 😂
Edit: the only thing they should have toned down was the number of people smuggled in just ONE container. From 400 to 40. The number of 400 would have meant a cube of squishy human flesh stuffed into that container. Fourty would have been barely believable, 400 definitely not.

Madeleines are shell shaped French cookie. The Sugar Bowl Bakery whuich started in my childhood neighborhood was famous in the San Francisco Bay Area for its Madeleines and for selling a higher than usual number of winning lottery tickets. The Madeines became popular enough that they're now sold nationally. Safeway supermarkets sell Madeleines (they used to be Sugar Bowls, but I'm not sure now - I'm not that big a fan of Madeleines so i haven't kept track). As I recall, when I used to visit Vacouver, B.C. for the Anime Revolution convention, there was a Safeway there. If there's one in your neck of the Canadian woods, maybe they have some Madeleines for you, and they'll be less pricey than buyin them from a French bakery.

This was the 2nd of many films by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Professional) & Robert Mark Kamen (The Karate Kid from 1984-94).
This first film of the franchise was actually by 2 directors; hong kong legend Cory Yuen & art director Louis Leterrier.
Jason Statham was a former athlete (professional diver).
Later became known in several films including those of English filmmaker Guy Ritchie.
As Frank Martin, this was his first-ever lead role and jumpoff as an action star.
First installment was cool and I did have the extended cut of it.
Most of these movies are about rules being broken.
In the long run, Frank has to break his own when the bad guys don't play fair.
Part 2 & 3 are good fun (watch definitely).

Here are a couple of Jason Statham movies that I think you would get a kick out of. "Crank" Statham is injected with toxin that inhibits the body's flow of epinephrine (aka adrenaline) which is neurotransmitter that causes the heart muscle to beat, so he spends the movie using danger and excitement to maintain a high enough adrenaline level to keep his heart from stopping as he desperately tries to track down the antidote. "Safe" Statham is a homeless man who was once a cop and a cage fighter who ends up protecting a little girl who's a wiz with numbers from the thugs of a Triad boss who wants to use her as a human calculator so he can run has criminal business without leaving a digital trail.
Mentioning the story of a burned out tough guy coming back to life to protect a little Asian girl reminds me that you should watch 2010 Korean movie "The Man From Nowhere" about a former special ops soldier who had withdrawn from humanity after a personal tragedy protecting a drug addict's daughter from drug dealers who use children to deliver their drugs and as donors for black market organ transplants. It has some great Korean child acting (seriously, Korean kid actors have a well deserved reputation for giving strong dramatic performances), a story that's exciting and heart rending, a handsome mysterious hero, truly despicable villains and some well choreographed Filipino martial arts (which the director chose because he wanted a style that looked deadly efficient rather than flashy).

Hobbs and Shaw is on offshoot of F&F so you may want to watch those first,I believe the Hobbs one falls after Statham's 2nd F&F appearance. Meg is another good one with him. Explaining that kidnapping is considered crime against the state reminds me of the Little Lindberg Law (from the case of the kidnapping and murder of famed aviator Charles Lingberg's infant son). The Little Linderg Law reminds me of the real life case of the Onion Field Murder in which two police officers were taken hostage, and one of the perpetrators would claim that, because he believed that the Little Lindberg Law made kidnapping punishable by death, he had no choice but to kill the officers. That reminds me that there is an excellent 1979 crime/courtroom drama called "The Onion Field." It's a very heavy film but a very good one that deals with the crimanal, the courtroom, the societal, and psychological aspects of the story. As a final FYI, the Onion Field Murder is taught in most American police officer survival courses and is what lead to many departments adopting a strict policy that an officer must never surrender his/her weapon to a criminal even in a hostage situation.

When the trailer for this came out. I was thinking, oh a new Bruce Willis movie. Ha
This is one of the early films which featured the super choppy edits during fight scenes which made it hard to keep up with the action. But its a pretty common way of editing nowadays.
I liked the movie. Didn't like the music score.
But having watched it dozens of times, it works.
Should check out 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."

Thanks, Jen. I love you for doing this! This franchise has been around for quite some time and you (yes, YOU) are the only reactor kind, generous, and WISE enough to do these. The more sequels they make the less awesome they get but personally I would love to see you do all three. The reboot is also enjoyable! Although there is less focus on martial arts it is still very actiony and the new actor as the same character is also likable. Also written by Luc Besson ("The Fifth Element"). Which reminds me, do like seeing badass female action protagonists? He also wrote "Point of No Return" (based on "La Femme Nikita") with Bridget Fonda which is also extremely reaction worthy. I apologize, I am not a rich person who can afford Patreon - maybe someone who is will appreciate this suggestion and back it up? He also wrote "Lucy" and "Anna", both with awesome female badasses. Also the "Taken" trilogy
