- Edit: Sorry my voice abruptly starts in the middle of my sentence at the beginning of the video. The original song I used at the start got flagged for copyright, but when trying to change it I realized that RUclips seemed to think that it went on about two seconds longer than it actually did. So the new song unfortunately goes on for a little bit longer than it's supposed to and cuts off the beginning of my sentence. The original intro sentence goes, "Alright so if you fall into one of those starter packs..." I hope you understand and most of I all I hope you enjoy the video. This thing blew up out of nowhere in the last week and it's been an amazing experience to say the least. Thanks for watching!
Poptropica is an online flash game that I found out about and loved in my elementary school years. As much as I enjoyed it, it doesn't seem to be brought up nowadays whenever people talk about their favorite flash games. So I wanted to go through and give Poptropica the retrospective it deserves.

Yeah, I always wanted to finish Mystery Train but never could, and I didn't even get 1% of progress done on S.O.S island. And I was always to scared of Vampire's Curse, when it got to the wolf scene I always got legit scared and left the island.
I remember not being able to complete a single one. I actually remember getting stuck on that a vampire's curse like I couldnt get out.
I just liked exploring. I may have completed some islands, but I don't remember, and I didn't really care for it.

I think it is because they are moving the game away from a Flash since it is ending by the end of the year. They are bringing back the classic island.

I did some digging myself because of this video and yes, the old islands were removed because of flash. They were/are updating the islands. There doesn't seem to be an exact date of when the islands will be back though. However, if anyone is interested, there does seem to be a backdoor method of playing the old islands using "flashpoint" which is a project that aims to archive old flash games.

This was my elementary childhood right here. I remember all the kids would play Poptropica in the computer lab after finishing whatever the teacher made us do. We didn't get much time, but it was better than nothing. I even remember helping people out, since I was far into the game. I had a friend outside of school, who helped me. So it kinda went a full circle. I even remember this one time: a girl I had a crush on asked for help in the game. She gave me her account info and told me to play for her. Later that same day, she changed her mind. I went back home, still with the slip of paper with the info on it. I didn't open and read it at all. I decided I would honor her wishes and just throw it away. And I did.
I don't remember what the last island I played was, since they kept releasing new stuff. But I will say that the first few islands were my favorite, since those were there from the beginning. I have long since forgotten the account details. But it was very fun while it lasted.

the developers said they removed them because they had to transition the game from the outdated flash to a new one, but they're working on bringing them back. I hope they do it soon because it's been seven years since I played Poptropica and I haven't beaten skullduggery lmao

The only world I remember finishing back in elementary school was that time-travel world where you had to find and return different historical artifacts from different points in history.

@@masonmurphy5402 honestly the attention to detail on that world was SOOOO killer. The different times you could visit were all so unique and awesome, the only one I remember being disappointing was the Lewis and Clark level. Considering how adventurous they were, I expected the level to be more than just two dudes sitting near a tree you could climb.
I never completed that one but it was my favorite! I have so many good memories of that Island.
This was the one island I would constantly replay so it's the only one I remember too XD That and the pirate mini game was way too fun

I was never able to beat Zeus. I got stuck on the part where you go through the water tunnels and collect pearls or whatever. I remember getting past it but never advancing past it. Or maybe I stopped playing at the underworld- whichever came last.

there used to be an older version of the store with way more costumes, like at least 75, but they took out like everything in the shop. It's really annoying, and now you need a membership to buy more than half the items in the shop. They also took out most of the world

It's nuts that I'm at that age now where most content creators are my age so the things I remember from my childhood are now a big part of the Internet's collective conscious. It's like I can't believe other people were also born in the late-90s, early-00s, for some reason.
Great video, btw. I always forget that Jeff Kinney did Poptropica. He truly is the John Hughes of the "born to late to be millennials and too early to be zoomers" generation.
For me (I'm 21) and a good bit of the content creators are a) as old or a tiny bit older than me or b) younger than me. Like for example Tommyinnit and Tubbo. Their both teenagers and it's great to see them being so successful at the *grind*, but it's also a little weird that a 21 year old is supporting them. If that makes sense
@@Sayyble I know! Oddly, most of the content creators I follow are older than me and I've been watching them for years- like Brutalmoose, probably my favorite youtuber out there. For nostalgic content, though, I love these flash-game based videos. Tamago is up there for some quality 2000s kids internet content, especially if you played Neopets.

I remember in elementary school when our whole class got obsessed with Poptropica, except that in this whole class of 9 and 10 year olds, there were only two people who spoke English so most of us played through every island with trial and error.
Once at the computer lab I sat next to one of the girls who spoke English and made her translate every single piece of dialogue. She was probably so annoyed, but it was very exciting to actually understand what's going on for once.

I never understood what was happening in those rooms. People were just idling or wandering, maybe jumping. Nothing ever actually happened in those rooms that was interesting besides occasional gestures.

@@MoMonkeytucky I remember being bad at that game. I would click at the last second and die every time. I eventually tried clicking as soon as I jumped, sometimes that worked. I never understood it, but I think I was lagging. We had terrible internet.

the developers are bringing things back, they're recoding the islands, store, and items because flash it's disabled in devices in 2020 and so on.
When the pirate island and astro knights comes back (and maybe reality TV) ill play again
@@mypointisinvalidbut7010 you can log on every so many weeks to see what's on the map. They're *probably* recoding the easier ones first. It's obviously going to be slow and tedious but a bunch of stuff is slowly coming back. They have new stuff but it doesn't look like a ton.
Also, if you still have it you should keep logging on your old account every once in a while so it won't get deleted. Membership is added so most of the stuff in the store that was recoded is under membership, so what you didn't get previously you most likely can't get without membership.
The old islands that are up so far seem to be accessible to old players without the membership but are apparently membership required for newer accounts.
There's also a daily credit wheel spin on home island.

This video is amazing. The whole intro was just my childhood summed up. I loved Poptropica as a kid and tween and want to revisit it now as a 22 year old. I loved the quests, challenges, puzzles, lore, and characters as a kid and it seems like I still would based on this video.
Thanks so much, that means a lot. I remembered having so much fun on Poptropica when I was a kid that I thought it was worth making a video to look back on it, and in so doing I thought I could recount my experience finding out about it through Funbrain. It seems as though a lot of people had similar experiences so I'm really glad I was able to give them some nostalgia for that. And yeah it was surprisingly still a lot of fun when I went back and played it, even as a (at the time) 22 year old! I was able to play some of the old islands when have since been removed because flash is no longer supported unfortunately, but I think the newer islands are there and if it looks interesting I'd say it's worth checking out again.

Superhero island was the only one I was ever motivated enough to complete while using school computers lmfao. And I was only that motivated becuase I knew you got a flying ability at the end, and I would soar around the island and be insanely sad when I found out the feature was only for that specific island. Though, I do remember feeling immensely satisfied when the villains would cry in jail lmfao.

I used to love playing poptropica it was so addicting. I remember when I was ten, being the only big kid in an aftercare class of little kids because my mom worked until 6:00. A few days ago, I remembered the game and went to their site again only to find most of the islands have been deleted I was very sad 😢 They even have some islands that you have to pay membership to play! I wish old poptropica still existed

You still can. You just have to Google the list of old islands and go through it that way. It's not on the actual site anymore because flash player ended.

When I was in 3rd grade my class was obsessed with the game. The Book Fair at our school had a few of those really expensive complete Poptropica guides. It was basically a rush for who could get their parents to buy the book and get there early enough to get the book. They sold out and the ones who got the book became the big ballers of the class. Fun times
I just remember how exciting it was just seeing other actual people in my game with me. That's back before online games were so popular, or at least before I discovered them so it was really cool at the time, games like this.
I never give enough credit to the fact the Poptropica was one of the few things that helped me through 2 years of an entire school bullying and degrading me i think Poptropica and a select few shows were practically the only things to make me smile as a loner kid.

Looking back, I really respect the Poptropica team for creating islands that don't dumb down the challenge for children and actually put in thought and care into the stories and themes. As a kid, I truly felt immersed in these mini adventures because it felt like I was actually making an impact on each island I visited. I really appreciate you for treating Poptropica not just as a "quirky, nostalgic" game, but as an iconic franchise in the 2000s that should not be forgotten. Awesome video!

Man poptropica was awesome when I was a kid, the only thing I remember the most was a puzzle with a chicken a fox and some chicken feed, and you had to get them across a river

@@oi-nf9uz I actually bought the guidebook (written by none other than Tracey West) and it told me about all those numbers so I could try them out. Probably still not worth my money, especially since I'd already beaten pretty much all the islands, but I was very impressionable at the time. Still have the book, and the poster that came with it has been up on my wall for years.
