In Total Darkness... Lava River Cave

  • I know you're probably thinking, "Angie, not ANOTHER cave tour..." But THIS one was especially cool because there was no tour guide and more importantly no lights. The lava river cave in Flagstaff, Arizona runs about a mile long and is free to explore by yourself any time of the day. While it is pretty manageable to navigate alone, this was the most scrambling I have personally ever done while exploring caves as the trail is not paved or completely smooth which made this especially fun for me. Unfortunately, for you the viewer, my fondness for caves is only growing and there will probably be more dark videos coming your way in the future. Thank you all for watching! Have a Happy 4th of July for my fellow American viewers!

Thank you Angie for sharing your experiences. You make what you do look effortless and fun although I know you have your days. I love your sense of humor and your enthusiasm to spread knowledge. It’s refreshing to see equality programming coming from such a public service such as RUclips. Keep up the good work doodle bug, because you share their love for the ground.

Wow, did you have a backup flashlight? That’s brave of you. It was fun to giggle along with you but without a backup flashlight I would of freeked if I had dropped it down a crack between boulders….love your cave love…☺️

I love a good cave tour. The only one I know of that doesn't require a guide is Ape Cave up in Washington. Its an old lava tube from Mt. St. Helens. It is cavernous with ceilings about 20-30 ft high through out the mile long tube.

"A flashlight" and you hold up a tiny flashlight and question whether the charge is adequate before stepping into the darkness. I'd have no less than three.

I usually watch cave content on the National Speleological Society youtube channel. There is some great stuff there one example I watched a few days age was a small group finding new caves in Dominica.
I do think you are the most manically giddy cave explorer I have seen in an underground video. You should go to a cave where you get muddy, continue your journey away from the tourist walkways in developed caves and toward the cavers caves.

You are so brave. Kudos for exploring that cave system by yourself with one flashlight! You would probably like spelunking. It’s rock climbing, but inside a cave. I went the first time when I was a teenager, discovering the depth, darkness, and mudiness that exists inside caves. It is exhilarating. Still loving all your videos! Thank you for creating them and sharing your adventures!

I highly disapprove of going into the off shoot passageways! They're like a really high, unkempt, maze. You'll never find your way back! But that's because I am a great, big, sissy. Which you are obviously not. Thanks for the educational content.

I've been to the other Lava River Cave in Oregon! It is much more well traveled, so it may not feel as adventurous, but it impressively big and worth a visit. Are you aware of Lava Beds National Monument in Northern California? It's got more caves! Though they tend to be twistier, so you do need to do your research and keep your wits about you.
