Stage 3 theme of 4th Touhou game Lotus Land Story for the PC-98 system. Sound emulated using FMPMDE2000 (c60.fmp.jp/) from files extracted from the disc image.
The drawings of the first games were so genuinely cute
when the theme for your stage is 30 times more popular than your theme
I just realized it's difficult to find Bad Apple covers not based off the popular one.
The popular one is quite good in and of itself.
Well the track itself was never really popular, same as most other themes from PC-98 touhou
Alstroemeria Records was one of the few that made remixes of tracks from these games

@@pigpro98 I didn't call this a cover, I said whenever people make Bad Apple remixes, they base it off the Alstromeria version instead of this one.

These are pretty good chibi renditions for the style that was popular during the time. His later characters which were drawn more modern were pretty bad, but this is pretty good.
In PC 98 Touhou, I find the art quite nice. Then in EoSD, it turns into... Well, Sakuya's portrait says it all.
He may be can't draw well, but his design concept itself is amazing. The fact that the community can interpret Touhou characters in doujin fan art or manga is enough proof for that.
I must say in light of this comment I made an extremely long time ago, ZUN has actually improved on his art in more recent mainline games. It's super heartwarming to see someone master their craft even more than they already have.

I know the popularity of the vocal version versus the original is the root of a lot of controversy~ but without it, I would never have discovered this song. Or Touhou, in general.

The Touhou Project is the greatest blessing the internet has given us.
It's impressive for a game designer to design the game, do the art, AND do the music as well. Usually you have different people do different parts of the game design since most people specialize in just one thing
I hope one day I'll be like that. I can play this song on piano, and I'm majoring in computer science. My art skills are good for drawing non-humans/anime, but wanna work on that for anime/manga

@Skittyism Sorry to reply to an old comment, but "The Landing" by Nobuo Uematsu was also 90s music, and it still sounds amazing today. ZUN was just limited by the technology he was working with here. Not saying that's a problem - he still performed exceptionally despite that, so his PC-98 music also sounds great. This sort of timelessness is the sign of a fantastic composer, as Uematsu and ZUN both are.

The vibe I get from this is "Genesis sidescrolling beat-'em-up set in China". Make of it what you will.

I have a good solution to the "Alstroemeria Records Bad Apple!! vs. Lotus Land Story Bad Apple!!" debate.
Just consider the former an original composition that borrows melodic material from the latter. That way you can appreciate both on their own merits.
(Seriously, though, the vocal arrangement has a b-section melody that is completely unique to it, while not using the b- or c-section melodies of this piece in any capacity. It's at least 50% original song, using less than 33% of this track.)

It seems like this PC-98 theme isn't as overrated as i thought. This is very good and catchy, and is totally better than the overrated vocal arrange with 76M views, but there are way better themes from the same franchise, like vanishing dream from touhou 3.
