    6 players with between 8 and 14 points. Very balanced. Who does the opposing team focus on? Stanford worked very hard to keep Paige and Azzi in check and did a pretty good job of it, but that’s where the depth of this team shines. 😀
    If this team could make their layups, they might be able to win more comfortably. 😵‍💫
    Don’t overlook Geno’s game management, quickly assessing who has it and who doesn’t in any given game and allocating playing time accordingly. Knowing that the margin between winning and losing when playing such tough opponents at this time of the year, he understands how to get the most out of his team and it often looks very different from game to game.

    • @cbrend22
      @cbrend22 2 года назад +2

      Paige was doubled up every screen and every time she penetrated, the others have to hit shots. Azzi doesn’t get doubled, so she needs to be more aggressive. Paige was 7/13, and 2 were last second heaves, so really 7/11 (63%) in the flow of the offense. Williams/ Westbrook/Fudd were 8/30( 27%). That won’t beat SC, they’ve got to hit shots, with Paige out there they are all getting open looks. I’d love to see both Cristyn and Azzi out it on the floor, it forces the D to react and goos things happen.

    I believe Coach did his part managing the team/game with correct time to call Time Outs and place his Wisdom on the team when it was needed!!! Usually it does not take all of the Time Outs for Huskies to win... but the last 2 games he has been the Coach he is and steered the team and game in the correct direction to win!!! TY Coach!!!! Actually, Stanford was the third best team in almost all of the seed analytics that the committee evaluated, but they gerrymandered the s-curve by flip-flopping NC State and Stanford and bumping UCONN down to 6 overall to give UCONN their regional final in Bridgeport. They also had to prop up Louisville (a team that didn't even make it to the ACC Championship game) by giving them a #1 seed. Otherwise, UCONN would have been playing in Wichita last week. Instead, they seed UCONN at 6 overall, NC State at 3 overall, thus giving the Huskies the defacto home game in Bridgeport as a #2 seed. Then, they come out on television after the brackets are announced and say (with a straight face), "There was no deliberate intent to get UCONN into Bridgeport, but that's just the way it worked out. NC State was 3 overall, so we had to pair the 6 overall seed with them, and it just happened to be UCONN."

    Just watched Geno's 4-2-22 National Championship press conference. It was entertaining...watch it. Coach Auriemma is a gift to women's basketball. Talk about a formidable combination of knowledge, experience, wisdom, earnestness & personality. With the passage of time the envious lilliputian chorus sound increasingly ridiculous and petty. Let's be honest, with his record of accomplishment, if he were female we'd probably have a national holiday in his honor, maybe canonization, postage stamps & coins, home a national shrine, ect. Exaggerating.....slightly.

Aaliyah has to be smart and set her screens quickly. Paige. Azzi, and Nika cannot carry the team by themselves, but they need to enjoy each other, continue to trust in each other. You're "lucky" comment is laughable. This season has been anything but Lucky, overcoming mistakes in crucial times shows great resolve. In spite of all that transpired they are where they were supposed to be. Whether they beat SC who has been the best team all year needs to be seen. The loss of Djorka is especially impactful against all the size of that SC has. We'll see what happens.

    • @MrLarryLessor
      @MrLarryLessor 2 года назад

      That's a bit of spoiled outlook:
      It's unfair to expect every UCONN recruit to become Tina Charles or Maya Moore.
      Uconn has been blessed to have MANY hall of fame level players year after year: Swinn, taurasi, Sue, Tina, Breanna, Maya etc.
      But even Coach Geno had "Dry spells" such as when Candace Parker was at UT- the Huskies didn't win a championship at all during Candace's college career.
      So Olivia and Christyn have does well - especially leading this year and growing into more responsible leaders -
      Liv has handled her assignments against Cunane and Brink pretty well.... now Boston is next. Liv & this team can do it. These are all young women - we are not talking about Wilt Chamberlain or grown men here.
      Liv & Co. can raise her game and take Boston etc tomorrow.

      Championships are not something fans should feel entitled to. I grew up in Chicago where the Bulls won 6 in 8 years so I know plenty about high expectations. You need to see reality and realize what coach geno said: These ladies are students first and they are learning to be better people. If they become champion players then good hopefully that makes them better people. But growth & learning as a person in life - more so than athletic performance - comes first. That’s why coach geno has done so well for a long time as a coach. He never sold his soul to make the most Salary or have the most titles. Listen to his comments last night: he said liv and Christyn were really important once he put them Back into the game.

    Granted the lady Gamecocks are the ultimate monster team. The most powerful heavily favored team the Huskies ever faced in a dozen finals. Beating Dawn Staley's squad will take more than a monumental effort even if Dorka was not injured. Yet with nothing to lose and without the pressures of being heavily favored will that looseness be the impetus of winning a one shot game? Eerily this next game brings back memories of when the men's team beat heavily favored Duke for their initial title. Is there a deja Vu oncoming for this diehard gutsy overachieving squad that Geno patched together into believing the prize is there for the taking if you want it the most. South Carolina should win easily on paper yet I think they will underestimate the fight in these scrappy Huskies. Go UConn!

    • @spooge33

      Obviously the game is not won on paper, and the men didn't have a coach that did it 11 times. Nothing to lose sounds like they are just happy to be in the finals and that is BS.
