      I think there had been theories that Tendi may have been one, or at least connected to one, like being tagged along with her family considering her unarmed techniques (or just military unarmed training), or I am mixing up with Expanse where Belters' ships--even pirates--are family-owned and tend to bring children to business.
      Or maybe her family--parents or grandparents--decided to stop being pirates and become officers and soldiers around when Orion joined the Federation.

      @@powerist209 It used to be said that Orion Pirates and the Orion Military were the same thing. I think this will end up being the case, that Tendi's family are pirates and she basically ran away from home to join Starfleet

      Given that this is supposed to be well after the Dominion War, it is possible that the Orions have changed a lot, becoming less aggressive and more diplomatic.
      Or it could be that the pirates were never a large part of the population, just the most aggressive and so if you meet an Orion ship in deep space 9/10 times it will be a pirate ship.
      This is also how i would explain why the Ferengi seem to change from Pre-TNG to the DS9 era. There was a small portion going around raiding other systems and it worked until they encountered the Federation and raiders quickly collapsed one after the other.

    • @raw6668
      @raw6668 4 года назад +20

      @@spectre111 Could also be due to the fact this was a post-Dominion-War Federation, where Starfleet may be less tolerant of pirates and could do something about it with their powerful fleets made to fight the Borg and Dominion at their disposal. The Orions may have decided piracy was not as profitable after A Federation Fleet warped in Orion space with this hail, "We come in peace, unless your pirates. In that case, red alert and prepare to fire on all pirate ships on my mark."

Raiding wasn't working anymore so they had to find a new way of life, of course even in heyday of Viking raiders, the looting and pillaging was only half the operation. @@rommdan2716 I generally hate this show because they abuse Boimler and give so much praise to Mariner the Sociopath, but sometimes I watch clips for scenes like these because I recognize that there is a spark of great humor hiding among the crotch shots and sarcastic insults. I think a funny episode could center around Tendi, who is an Orion, going through some sort of hormonal cycle that is making all of the men on the ship go crazy for her (as Orion women can control their pheromones to get men to do their bidding, as seen in an episode of "Enterprise"). But I suspect that a lot of the writers for this show don't understand the significance of Star Trek in the greater cultural zeitgeist and therefore don't understand the proper style of humor that would fit in with this series, instead opting for standard Rick and Morty jokes with less existential dread. It's not awful like Discovery or Picard, which just desperately flex their "WE'RE FOR ADULTS ONLY!!!!" muscle to the point it brings the average intelligence of the human race down by ten whole IQ points, but I think if the creators for this show brought in some long-time ST fans who have plenty of criticisms for this series but think it's showing good potential at times, season 2 could be a riot. Unfortunately, the makers of modern ST prefer to just call the ones who dislike their episodes that are losing CBS millions of dollars per week racists or entitled manbabies.
      I'll be waiting for the pheromones episode in the future, though. They CAN'T claim to be ST fans and not realize the huge comedic potential that situation would have!

      @@tifforo1 That's in the game. Romulans are as strong as Vulcans, and as we see in Picard, are very good hand-to-hand fighters. But its not impossible for a human or other species of comparable strength to beat them in a fight if they are trained well enough. The trick is to take them down quickly with hard, focused strikes.
