Most Part 5 villains really hit different because they're in exactly the same position as the protagonists, but at different imes. First they fight the Squadra Esecuzioni, who are trying to find out the boss' identity to take him down, just like Team Bucciarati ends up doing after they deliver Trish. Then they fight the Unità Speciale, who simply follow the boss' orders, just like Team Bucciarati used to do before they delivered Trish. It really shows just how much luck Team Bucciarati actually had to get as far as they did, because they could've very easily ended up like their enemies did.
The difference is that the enemies fought separately, while team Bucciarati stuck together as a team. This allowed them to have the right people fight back during each ambush even when they were separated.
I love how despite being villains, squalo felt genuine anger after seeing his partner sacrificing himself for him. It almost made me forget they were villains.
That's what I love about Part 5's antagonists,they feel like real people with real emotions and personalities rather than just being one note bad guys that we mainly see in Parts 3 and 6

Part of the brilliance of this series is that it gives enough context for viewers to predict the enemies' moves along with the main cast. Unlike strategic battles in other animes, JoJo has all its characters voiced out their opinions in an elaborate fashion, and this triggers further critical thinking within the viewers!
Not really. Part 2 and 3 had a lot of asspull nonsense. On 4 and after got a bit better, but characters still survive ridiculous injuries a lot of the time.
Deku murders a gay couple in broad daylight. I always knew Kaiba was gay but didn't think he would get murdered for it. Boku no Pico Academia got really dark.
In all seriousness, for all you anime only viewers. La Squadra may have felt like better villains (especially with the added anime content) and the change to the Boss' squad might put you off a bit considering these two were just barely short of killing Narancia and Giorno. Don't let it distract you too much, some of the next fights (especially the next one) are some of the weirdest ones out there. Also, besides Prosciutto and Pesci's brotherly relationship, Part 5 introduces yet again some of the more likeable villains. A pair that worked together extremely, had each other's backs and would never think of sacrificing one another to gain something. R.I.P. Squalo and Tiziano, arguably the most wholesome combination in the entire series done in an obvious, but still subtle manner.
La Squadra don't feel like better villains, they are. They're the best minor villains in the entire series until part 7 and maybe even then. Tizano and Squalo aren't bad but they're not as good as LS. Competence wise, T+S also had a much easier job than the majority of LS since they didn't have to either interrogate someone, steal something before Bruno's Squad or not kill Trish. If the objective wasn't Trish Bruno's squad would have been dead at least by the train if not before.
Tbh it was a shame La Squadra died so quickly. Illuso and Melone were kinda generic creepy bastards, but the sarcastic, trolling Formaggio, the constantly pissed Ghiaccio, and the brotherly dynamic between Pesci and Prosciutto could have been used more. Especially Pesci, would have been interesting to make him a recurring antagonist vengeful about the death of his "Aniki".

When I first saw this I was genuinely super proud of narancia, he had to save giorno all on his own against two stand users that worked perfectly together. I was so impressed that he won.
To be fair, Formaggio nearly got Narancia, but these two nearly got Narancia and had already incapacitated Giorno. EDIT: They lost through the same reason though, Formaggio never expected Narancia to burn down the entire street and Squalo & Tiziano didn't actually think of Narancia cutting of his fucking tongue to undo the ability. Some major risky brain plays vs the more calm and methodical approach, but Giorno and Narancia won in the end through taking risks.

I really like how I kind of felt bad for Tiziano and Squalo when Tiziano sacrificed himself and Squalo went into a rage over losing his partner. I almost felt as though I was rooting against Narancia for a few moments there. It would've been interesting if Tiziano and Squalo could have been good guys, and it's really unsatisfying for me that (in this case, implied) gay characters are usually either villains or killed off. Of course they had to be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of both tropes.
I generally don't feel too sorry for any of the villains, namely because they are all mafioso, and more of them still are either assassins or killers for when the Boss needs something *absolutely* dead. This isn't the same as enjoying them; just objectively, most of the adversaries are definitely pretty wicked people that ultimately deserve the fate they are dealt.

I really like how I kind of felt bad for Tiziano and Squalo when Tiziano sacrificed himself and Squalo went into a rage over losing his partner. I almost felt as though I was rooting against Narancia for a few moments there. It would've been interesting if Tiziano and Squalo could have been good guys, and it's really unsatisfying for me that (in this case, implied) gay characters are usually either villains or killed off. Of course they had to be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of both tropes.

Why is being a villain and killed off unlucky?
I generally don't feel too sorry for any of the villains, namely because they are all mafioso, and more of them still are either assassins or killers for when the Boss needs something *absolutely* dead. This isn't the same as enjoying them; just objectively, most of the adversaries are definitely pretty wicked people that ultimately deserve the fate they are dealt.
