    Great plan! You can always recess Phillips head screws in your hdp. A short spring or bungee to the motor will eliminate movement and noise.

    Good hack. I was planning on doing that myself but went with solid square tubing. Did not go as planned and I was back to the drawing board. This will work out great. Thank you sharing and I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

    Love your implementation!!! Awesome you were able to mount the bar to the tracks - it's a lot simpler than attaching to the bars. I really like the bolts through the top for the motor mount location. It's simpler than the cutting board and allows the mount portion of the bar to not have to extend past the motor itself. I also like the idea of adding utility tracks to the bar for extra storage. Cool!!! 😀

    • @2reelyakrz481
      @2reelyakrz481 4 года назад

      Not as heavy as one would think. In addition to making things much easier to bolt together, the holes in the metal reduce the weight quite a bit without any significant reduction in strength.

    Why did you not put the motor on back. You showed where you made a hack for a rear motor?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  3 года назад +1

      I fish in very shallow water and would need to tilt the motor often when I hit oyster beds or sandbars. At some point, I may work a hack to tilt it. Having it in the rear meant I had to stop, get out and tilt it.

    • @KayakhacksFishing

      Hmmmm... maybe for a while, but wouldn't it be cut?

    • @2reelyakrz481
      @2reelyakrz481 4 года назад +1

      We never noticed any rattle on the water. Probably drowned out by other noises. I was initially concerned about the wiggle causing the angle of the motor to be an issue, but that didn't seem to be a problem either. The shim is a really good idea which ought to take care of both.

    i am thinking i dont need the extra 1 1/4 insert.. just use the 1 1/2 tube use the rail track to lock it down..a nd just remove the whole tube when i dont want it, the rail tracks are the best for that. I am currently doing this for a pelican permium .. i was going to do the transom mount with the steering .. and I still may.. depending on stability.. I did end up going with aluminum square tubing to aovid corrosion. I also took the head unit off completely and run a PWM with a knob control.. so forward and reverse and speed all controled by the little knob next to the seat

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  4 года назад

      The rail track works. I added utility track to my tube with some rod holders, so I wanted it to be there instead of removing.

  • @fish2reelaxfishing662

    If you reinforced the bottom of your track, you could use this as a multi-tasker. It would make a good mount for a set of wheels. Poor mans BooneDox.

  • @pmclellan123

    This is a great idea but I just discovered the cost for the materials here in Canada is insane. The 2 pieces of square iron tube total $115 after tax. Ouch. I think I’m going to go with your first idea of using just one piece of angle iron.

  • @rudyfisher7660
    @rudyfisher7660 4 года назад

    These are all a if you take those rails just like you got on air and move back go straight back to the back and and put a board across it toward you can hang your trolling motor all your trolling motor be in the back you won't be hanging on it with anything you won't be trying to get fish around it or anything else try that and see if you can come up with some

  • @toddla106

    Could have countersunk the bolts so you didn't need to use bulkier material

  • @deancarter68

    Steve, why not just buy a boat? Your kayak must weigh 500lbs with all of the "stuff" you have. Too complicated for me. I like the minimalist approach to kayak fishing. Just my honest opinion.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  4 года назад +2

      No offense! We usually just pedal and only use the motors when going a long way. This is the mount option I will use in the future. I need to do a video on the hacks I actually use. I make videos on all sorts of ideas - but you need to pick the ones appropriate for your situation.
