  • My ficus bonsai is still sitting in the dense soil it came in, so it is high time to repot it into better fitting soil.
So, in this video I will show how to repot a ficus bonsai. When it comes to repotting your bonsai, ficus is normally a quite forgiving species, and when kept indoors pretty unfaced by unseasonal repottings.

Do you have to remove all the old soil from the roots before repotting? My ficus microcarpa is very weak and the soil was very firm around the roots, so I didn't want to stress it any further by messing with the roots too much and left some of the old soil clumped around them.

If the tree is already weak it is probably the best idea to not go to harshly on the roots. However, also keep on mind that the wrong soil could play a part in the health of the tree, so removing it might benefit the tree in the long run.

@@ThatBonsaiGuy Ok, thank you. My little tree is so weak I'm not sure it will survive anything at this point, but I had to give it a try. It just seemed too aggressive to dig into his roots like that.
