Yeah, he was always a monster. But he wouldn’t have set his sights on Walker if he hadn’t been fucked over by him on Secretary of State. Major error on the President’s part.
It’s lifted directly from the original novel, where the Conservative Party wins a small majority in the House of Commons and the Prime Minister decides he needs a good Chief Whip more than he needs a good Home Secretary

Pop psychology is useful, as shown in this drama, for herding those who subscribe to it. FU’s stages of political action were, as I see it, Aerger; Willen; Rache. Rewatch the audience with Cardinal Linda. See Frank’s first rxns… anger including surprise, argument, outrage; will by controlling his emotions and thinking; committing to revenge. Spacey portrays all these well!

The timing of the pause at 1:58 … immaculate. You can literally see him boiling down every possible response and decision and what could potentially happen if he said something else. I’d like to think he already found another solution at that point. But it was important to not burn the bridge (Vasquez) right there and then. His initial reaction was indeed genuine, but you can see him needing to cool the temperature before he left the room, was very important for what will be relayed to President Walker when it gets back to him.
It’s quite insane how the events of this show spiraled after this very moment. They tried to play the game against Frank? In the wise words of Azula “Don’t flatter yourself. You were never even a player.”

1:01 - Anger
1:25 - Bargaining
1:47 - Depression
1:58 - Acceptance
Please. Frank stayed in anger stage until he got his revenge.
The only thing he accepted was that he backed the wrong horse

This is what made Netflix a big player.
I absolutely admire their relationship

They made a deal. And they made an enemy of him.
I forgot how amazing the first season of this show was. What happened?
Keep powerful enemies passive and happy, don’t screw them over.
Start of the greatest revenge arc 😆
This is why keeping promises is crucial. Word is bond or else you will create a monster who will be out for revenge. Getting fucked over is worse.
They shoulda just let him be Secretary of State lol
whats the real reason he didnt get the job

Imagine the hell that they live day to day.
I really wanted to hear that first idea. Trickle Down diplomacy is already a great start
Is this the show's sympathetic everyman protagonist?
should have ended after 2 seasons, was perfect up until then.
I always felt they never really had a plan for a plot after season 2. The screenwriting fell of a cliff, but the first two seasons were brilliant.
Ending on that final double knock in the oval office would of placed it in the series hall of fame

I really liked the first 2 seasons . . .
Okay ill watch it again
The world would be much better if Frank was nominated

Now that I think about it Claire is absolutely unlikable from the start. The fact that she took over the show is such a shame
