This video solidifies Jess as one of my favorite RUclipsrs to follow. Her enthusiasm, especially early on, put a huge smile on my face - especially combined with Andy's dry humor. "Put your arms down." You're both amazing for different reasons. I'm a huge fan and TRC is fantastic.
As a obese person trying to prepare for my first 5k ever, the hardest thing for me is continuous run, i need to start walking after 400m, as i'm out of breath and gasping like an animal at 170bpm. My PB is 45 min, but i'm slowly getting there. This channel is a great treasure of knowlege and motivation. Keep on keeping on!
I was just the same. My first 5k was 47 minutes, that was in January 2019. I have now run 5k in 27:57. Getting a PB is such a buzz! I hope you have as much enjoyment as I have. All thanks to parkrun.
That's fine! Just do 400m intervals at the pace you want for your 5k, walking as much as you need between intervals. Then each week keep decreasing the walk time. At some point switch to 600m intervals and then 800s and eventually 1K repeats. Eventually you'll hit a continuous 5k. I mean, I'd say only do this once or twice a week the other runs should be super easy jog/walks. But yeah, it worked well for me.
It’s great seeing Jess’s progress, you just know she is working as hard as possible. Good to see Andy is human after all and had to dig deep as well. Fully into the times that the rest of us can only dream about Jess!
I'm running my 1st half marathon in just about 3 weeks from now. I'm going to try for under 2:30:00. I can't imagine running it as fast as you! You are awesome! Congratulations on the PB!! 🎉
I love hearing tom and Sarah encouraging in the background!! Congrats to you Jess! It's incredible to see that even with all the training and the crazy paces you are running at, you still struggle just like us slower mortals. That sprint in the last 100m was 🤯🤯🤯 Takeaway: know your WHY!
Crazy fast!! I need another whole hour for the same distance 🥲 well done Jess! And well paced, Andy! You got this Jess, Berlin Marathon will be awesome!

I think one of the most fascinating things about the running channel is that even though I don’t run half as fast as Jess (quite literally) I can still relate to pretty much everything in this video, from the excitement in the beginning to the mental battle at the end. I just hope you guys continue doing this amazing work and I’m sure Jess has that sub 3h in her. Best of luck ✨
The thing that helps me the most in the final few kilometers is not so much thinking about the "why am I doing this", but more directly "I did not just effin run this far and suffered so much already to not effin finish this now!! 😤 ". The 'why' of running can most of the times not be answered easily, which makes it even more difficult to keep going, so keeping it simple really helps, at least for me! Anyway, crazy crazy running Jess, congratz!! 💯
I agree. Everyone talks about the why. I started running just under 3 years ago. No idea why. When I run races I don’t ever think what my ‘why’ is. Dunno what the reason is, I just don’t.
This was INCREDIBLE! Jess dug in deep, Andy was such a great coach. Honestly this was a great watch and I really enjoy how Andy reassures Jess that he has the situation under control and that Jess can trust him. Such good work you two
Well done Jess on the PB, and well done to Andy for being a good pacer. I loved the bit where Jess was pulling of some crazy antics and being a bit loopy, it reminds me very much of my running-partner, who goes completely into a runners high sometimes when we’re doing our long runs and blurts out all sorts of stuff. Wonderful people! 🎉
Amazing speed - just in awe of you Jess!!!! Andy can you record yourself providing the same encouragement to get me to a 1:55PB? Lots of come on, you can do this motivation. You could do playlists for all sorts of times and distances 🥰
Congrats on the PB Jess! I'll be running my first Marathon in Berlin in a couple of weeks (although a fair bit slower than you!) as I'm aiming for 3hr 45mn!
Running my first timed HM in 3 weeks and got some good notes from Andy.. Plan is to complete by 2:00:00. My 18km solo runs has been tiring and mentally question myself as to why am I doing this. I am eager to run with a pacer or a group of people who are running at the same pace. Its crazy to see Jess and Andy make it look so easy till the last 2 - 3 km. Congratulation on your PB!!
Great work Jess (…. and Andy 😉) you have all the tools for Berlin 🎉 I could have done with a pacer for the GNR, missing my goal by 5mins but still managed a PB…. Roll on New York in November 🇺🇸
Well done Jess!! According to VDOT Calculator, if you can do a half marathon at 01:24:33, you can do a full marathon at 02:56:32. So, you are well on your way to smash that PB. You even have a couple of minutes to spare!
Andy as a pacer gets me emptional every time 🥹 you can see that he truely believes in those that he is running with and wants the best for them. I find these videos so motivating and empowering to watch. Jess, incredible running. You absolutely smashed it and you will run an incredible race in Berlin 🙌
The half is a tough distance as you pass 10 miles things just start to hurt as you push the pace. Well done and posting just after the Great North Run weekend may get some extra views.
Amazing!! So inspiring hearing Andy speaking to Jess during the run!! I'm training for a HM PB in 7 weeks time and I'll be taking all the postive self-talk and tips with me!
Watching this from the injured sideline is just what I needed on a Monday! Great run for both of you, and what a gorgeous trail for a PB. Congrats, Jess!
Great efforts, Jess and Andy! If you don't mind sharing, what does your watch predict for your marathon time? I love my Coros to bits, but I feel its marathon prediction is a little (actually I mean very) optimistic. I just ran a quick 10K (nowhere near Jess's PB, though), and now my watch predicts a marathon time of 2:59:30 🙂. Which feels optimistic since I've never run farther than 15km with my watch on.
Wow, well done Jess. You are so fast, and determined and strong. Be great if Andy could be a virtual coach like the couch to 5 app. Your motivational talk is so great.
Well done Jess. And well done Andy for making it look so easy. My half marathon pace is a whole minute per km slower and I cannot imagine going at that pace. Great video in a lovely location
Well done Jess. Such a brilliant confidence boost for you. Also, loved how this video highlighted the benefits of having such an amazing support network.
Is it worth mentioning that Andy ran 1:24:33 and doesn't have an "official" half marathon time, so as far as we know this is his HM PB (unless he's been quicker in his marathon training long runs?)
Hi team, probably not the correct place to ask but just completed the GNR and would love to see a video about running etiquette, I think not enough runners understand that there is even a thing but I've not seen anyone cover this topic.
Jess has progressed so well as a runner. Incredibly strong and determined. She'll definitely get her sub 3 in Berlin, having raced it myself. Whereabouts did you do this half marathon? Looks a great place to run.
Andy and Jess are the perfect team. Who better to pace Jess to beat her best❗ Andy Badeley that's who. I absolutely get what Jess struggles with, by possibly panicking a few Kilometres from the end because that's when the mental doubts can really play on your mind.
“I could be a mime”😅 love Jess’ humour, right up my street! Seriously though beautifully run & paced, great positive words from Andy too. Def will encourage me to find a good pacer for future important runs. And dig, self belief is everything. The mind stops us long before the body (usually!!) oh does Jess always use music, I haven’t before, wonder should I. Will she use it for Berlin? I have shoz but honestly am a bit sensitive to things near ears/ etc. How much did ye drink while doing that half? Roughly! Tia!
Great work Jess! I have a half marathon on my marathon training plan this Sunday and have entered a race to do it. Were you not tempted to do something like that? You had a really nice looking route to run your hm. Even some fields for Andy to look at.
Immediately after watching this I ran my PB half marathon 1:27:49. Also a PB in my 5km and 10km! Thanks for the inspiration Jess.

Walk-run is good for starting out. 45 min ain't bad at all for a 5K/ParkRun. Keep it up mate.
Keep going, it will become easier x
It’s great seeing Jess’s progress, you just know she is working as hard as possible. Good to see Andy is human after all and had to dig deep as well. Fully into the times that the rest of us can only dream about Jess!
Andy’s running form and breathing is impeccable.
His low leg lift style should be studied by science. I don't get it. He looks like me when I'm doing 6 minute K's but is doing 4 minute K's!
@@nextphasetkd i think its from his tall stature and biomechanics that work for him maybe?
