We lost all interest (i.e.-got smarter) in buying new cars & basically now keep our cars till the wheels fall off. I couldn't care less what the neighbors think.
Same here, I’m 63.. although the Ciera and 2005 escape were bought new
1979 Olds delta 88 bought from dad and a company car, 1984..1988
1988 olds Ciera, 1988.. 2005
2005 ford escape, 2005.. 2014
2012 ford escape, 2014… present .. it still has life
Well said! 👏👏👏
I love to watch and listen to Clark. I have recommended him to my daughter and son and a few of my friends.
Clark, you would be someone fun to travel with! I'm sure your enthusiasm is contagious to your travel companions.
Just want to point out that sometimes insurance companies will scrap a car, but there is nothing really wrong with it. My son had a deer jump on the car hood and damaged one of the head lights. There was nothing wrong with the car mechanically. The insurance company mechanic couldn't get a replacement because the manufacturer stopped making the parts for that car model, so the car was "scrapped" by the insurance company. We got the value of the car payout. Our mechanic was able to find a salvaged head light. He replaced it for about $600. And the insurance company re-insured the car with no problems.
Good point! 💚
Love how you love everything about traveling. You are so blessed to have that excitement on every trip.👏 God Bless You Clark and your family. Love your show.
Maybe don't buy a car unless you can pay cash.
That's a good option, but we recognize that it's not feasible for a lot of people. We're ok with financing for 42 months or less. 💚
I could have paid cash but I qualified for a 1.9% interest rate for 36 months and I’m making 4.6% in my HYSA. I will probably pay it off in less than 12 months but having good credit gave me the option to not have to drop all 30k at one time.
That’s our next plan to replace my 2008 Kia Optima which has 145,000 miles on it right now.
We are going to pay cash on an older used car, but not until we are completely debt free, including our home mortgage.
I’m leaning towards a Toyota Camry because of the lower maintenance cost and their reliability. 8:53
Only way I buy! FACT'S
Bingo!
A dealership tried to sell me a lifetime extended warranty, it was free for 6 months, then $100 a month. My response was No Thanks. I have the cash to pay for repairs after the regular warranty ends. 😂
Sorry, Clark I work at a dealership as a finance manager. The most a dealership can mark an interest rate up is two points. so if we offer you at interest rate of 8% we are buying the rate at 6% I do recommend the buyer check with her credit union first and then let the dealership try to match the credit unions rate
We’ve had success after booking by third party site in getting the hotel host/hostess to add our rewards number at check in and got the points. Never hurts to ask…politely.
Great show 😊
#BonusTerm - "Mandatory Option" - The crazy hotel junk fee I think Clark was thinking of. (Heard about it on your show, Team Clark.) Thanks!
So glad you posted this. My accord 70k engine went out. Not even 5yrs old.
Agreed about working through the Amex portal. I was in the travel business for many many years. Something I've noticed they don't always show all flight availability vs. What is on airline sites. It is almost like they are forcing you into certain options. Thanks for sharing all these tips.
I didn't know new car prices came down.
Clark is right -- do your car-buying homework, and there's no better way to do that than the 'Kevin Hunter the Homework Guy' RUclips channel. Not trying to dissuade people from using Clark's website and advice, but Clark is a generalist whose advice covers the entire range of consumer purchases. Does Clark go to a general practitioner for his heart health? No, he goes to a cardiologist. Kevin Hunter is the cardiologist of car buying. If you're unfamiliar, just go to his channel and browse the back catalog of videos and, if you know nothing about how car dealerships actually work be prepared to be shocked -- and disgusted.
And while you are with Kevin Hunter make sure to buy some of those super duper MPGxtreme gas tablets the guy peddles.
When we had to buy a car for the Mrs we called our Credit Union and pre-arranged finance. The Financing Director at the dealership took a look at the terms from the credit union , came out to meet with us and said: "We're not even going to try to match this!" 😂😂
We did the same in 2008 when we were able to get 3.8% interest w our credit union.
We bought our Kia Optima .
Already having our finances handled sure made the time we spent in the sales office less stressful 🙂
😂 This is how you do it! 👏👏👏
@@cindypatrick785 Worked like a charm! 🙌
14:01 Tesla is currently offering 0.99% apr!!! I figured I would hear Clark mention it on today's episode.
Thank you Team Clark.
Clark Howard sent me on my Vanguard Star Fund mutual fund journey over 15 years ago ❤❤❤
I have my used vehicle inspected by the local Honda dealer which was down the street, from the purchasing dealer. They revealed the car was in good condition and only needed to have the brake fluid changed. Cost was $150. It was worth it.
💯
FYI, Clark, American Airlines is based in Fort Worth, not Dallas.
Always has....Eff Dallas.
I love the recent hotel charge in CC called "Minimum Wage Law" fee. It was $19/Night!
Just part of the price.
17:12 - American Airlines has ALWAYS been based in FORT WORTH...not Dallas.
A city of Worth. :)
geeeeesh!
Ty Clark I need to know how to finance a car with a mid range credit score
It's the same process, no matter your credit score. The key to getting the best rates available to you with your credit score is securing the financing ahead of time with a credit union or online bank (whichever offers the best rate). 💚

Clark is so adorkable! (And I mean that strictly in the very best way.)😍🤩💖
😂 KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 👍
Carmax is self-insured so they don't tell you if the car was in accident.
Wrong. Carmax is transparent about the used cars they sell, including if the vehicle has been in an accident.
ElVs massive manufacturing pollution makes me a "no go."
Thanks Clark & Team!! NNTR
Buying a brand new car is one of the worst investments you can make. Buy a used Honda or Toyota and you are good to go.
A car you commute in and use for everyday life is never an investment. It’s another machine in your household that breaks down and eventually needs to get replaced. I normally buy certified used vehicles in the past, but in 2020 bought a new 2019 CrV at a dealer just a little more than people were asking for used ones. There’s so many electronics on vehicles now we got the car and dealer warranty through Costco buying program.
PAY. CASH. FOR. USED. CARS.
Hotwire became a double billing scam.
He's not an expert on anything.
