My favorite thing about this cover is that it starts out lusty and yearning, but as the vocals get heavier, the person wanting you sounds more desperate and aggressive to get you. Sounds scary. But also sounds really fucking good.
Thats what i liked! It makes it sound more scary and desperate, like those horror movie guys. It is so fucking good; used to love this so much, rediscovered it and fell in love all over again!
Christ, the original song is about heroin, “I want to feel you from the inside… you get me closer to god…you can help my isolation, you can help the hate that it brings….you can help my everything…. Help me think I’m somebody else” it’s not meant to sound pretty and happy. Wth kind of comment is this.
Bro they recorded this on a tour bus, Danny just sung over the actual song, sent it to Ben and Ben put together the guitar and backing and got rid of the real song in the background 😂
Bro they recorded this on a tour bus, Danny just sung over the actual song, sent it to Ben and Ben put together the guitar and backing and got rid of the real song in the background 😂
I like this cover, i've always felt that asking alexandria could pull off the sex, drugs and rock n' roll vibe better than any other metalcore band i know. I just hope the new guy can keep it going with AA's new stuff.
FrostyFeet exactly! Its not AA without Danny. So glad he's back, its a totally different sound now but you can't really expect a band not to change/evolve their sound or style
There's always hate on cover videos.. People don't understand that a cover isn't copying the exact song. It's when a band takes a song, and does it the way they want to. This is AA's version of closer, every band would have a different version of this song.
Thank you. People are so fucking judgemental. Do you expect covers to sound the same as the original? Because if so, you are stupid. They are covers because a different artist is taking a piece and doing it they're own way, why the fuck would anyone take a piece of music, and then try copying what the band/artist that made It to sound exactly the same? It makes no sense. So please get your head out of your asses, and stop complaining that they have changed or that they suck.
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk5248 I know! There are people that are so retarded that think it's wrong to do a cover of a song, even if the singer is still alive because they still don't ask for permission or whatever. That still doesn't mean it's automatically bad. The same person I was talking to also said covers are overrated and most or all of them are bad. They know they're wrong because they called me a kid and said I was boring. Oh and plus there are people like me that artists don't know, so how would I even get permission from the artist? I uploaded a cover on RUclips and it got deleted but every other song I had on RUclips didn't get taken down. Plus, no one hears me sing certain songs, so that's definitely not a cover. Maybe the neighbors can hear, but that's it.
Of all the complains I've seen and heard about cover versions of various songs, I have literally never noticed anyone say "This cover sucks because it doesn't sound exactly like the original". In fact, if a cover sounds really close to the original, people usually complain about that. So I have no clue what you people are on about. The number one complaint is "This cover is _worse_ than the original". That line conveys a lot of different meanings. Maybe the way it's played and/or sung doesn't match the emotional context of the lyrics as well as the original did. Maybe it's musically simpler and less interesting. Maybe there are lines or entire verse skipped, that have significance for the people who like the original better. Stuff like that. It doesn't mean "This cover is not the same as the original, which is a problem" - Rather it means "This cover doesn't give me as strong a reaction as the original still does". To take this video as an example, my ex got incredibly horny when listening to NIN's Closer. She did not have the same reaction to this version. AA's version is worse for her because it doesn't make her as horny as NIN's. Less emotional response. And to flip the example upside down, another NIN cover.. Johnny Cash - Hurt, a song about regrets written by a man who was moving forward with his life, covered by a man who was old, sick and dying. All respect to Trent for writing the words, but the emotions Johnny delivers it with feel so raw and real that the NIN version just pales in comparison. It's different than the original for sure, but it's not worse at all. THAT's a good cover, that's what people want. My personal favorite is A Perfect Circle's version of John Lennon's Imagine. Original is hopeful, crossing into naive while the cover is arranged and sung completely differently, which makes it come off pleading and desperate. John is saying "Hey wouldn't it be awesome if we could live in peace" while APC are saying "It's almost too late for peace, we have to do it now, we _have_ to". With the exact same words. I hope that all makes sense. This one.. It's a nice try. I could easily see someone fucking up this song, AA didn't do that. But it doesn't hit me the way it does when Trent sings it. So yeah, for me it's worse than the original. But if it was the same as the original it would literally be pointless. And for some people it might be better. There you go, personal taste :)
@@Chromodar A good cover is by an artist taking a song, understanding the song's soul and making it their own. Let's go back to Hurt as you mentioned it. NIN's version is the epilogue to the Downward Spiral album which is a story album. It is supposed to read like the suicide note of the protagonist. A man who destroyed his life and hurt everyone around him. Cash's version fixed the intentionally broken cords and removed the sound effects. He turned into a song of his life where he was getting to the end of the road and was no longer afraid of it, just full of regret and that he wished he had more time -- something he would never get. One is the death of a fictional character and one is the conclusion of a real old man's life. Both songs had a soul but one hurt so much more. Closer which is the 5th song in the Downward Spiral in the album is about self-loathing and recreating his image of himself. People think it is a song about sex because the line "I want to fuck you like an animal" which was a throw away line that Trent wanted to remove but left in at the request of the label. This cover isn't really bad but it just doesn't seem to have grasped the soul of the song. Not like they even tried to change it. All this song did was turn the song into their style which in my opinion is too slow. Someone said speed it up to 1.25 and I agree that it makes it much better. Makes it feel more like a EDM song. I divide songs into songs that are fun and songs which have soul. Here's another example to make a point. System of A Down -- the majority of their songs have a soul and are very good. Serj solo songs seem to be more fun songs. He tries to give it a soul but falls short of it.
Easy now, BDSM is sooo vague. Only thing I take away from this is “needy” sex and “restraint”. Although some women are up for “restraints” not all of them are. Test the waters. Stay safe
are you fuckin serious!? read what I wrote dumb ass all I said was if YOU CANT TELL the difference the YOU DONT belong here. so WTF ARE you talking about keyboard Troll?
I don't know too much about Asking Alexandria's style, so I was interested to hear the first two minutes of this. Then what I assume is majorly their own metalcore style kicked in and I was like, "HOT DAMN, they pulled that off really well." Glad they made the song their own eventually, that was pretty neat. I prefer the original for probably obvious reasons but still, that was _cool._
Oh wow, one year later and I've heard nearly their entire discography and have seen them in concert and love them to death. Yeah, cover holds up even stronger, and not just because of that; it's because it still retains a lot of the original's style (the industrial feel, the dirty synths, the blatant corruption present in its themes, etc.). Fucking rocks and in a terribly good way. I mean, from the band who has the music videos for "Killing You" and "The Death of Me," you can tell they know what they're doing with this song.
I actually love this cover. IDK why people don't like it. At the beginning, it kinda reminds me of old AA with all of the electro music mixed in to the music and then the heavy parts it reminds me of new AA. Say what you want but I love this cover and AA in general. :D
brusco666 I listened to the original before this, and I still love this cover to pieces. At least this cover had a spin to it, not really a spin, but actually had AA's style in it.
You know, it honestly doesn't matter how well they cover this song. You're always going to have these people that dislike it just because it's a cover of a song from a band they're told they're supposed to like by a band they're told they're supposed to dislike.
Well of course it's not going to be as good or better than the original. It's a COVER. No one is trying to be better, they're just doing their own versions.
2021 and I still come back to this song to remember how savage these guys can get with their music... The section from minute 2:30 - 4:30 of this track is a metal gem. Asking Alexandria has a lot of range, but this side of them is special and I hope they revisit it soon. 🔥🤘🏼😝🤘🏼🔥
I love the original and this cover. Covers can't sound like the original or it would just be pointless, I think they did a good job adding their style to it.
I don't know why everyone thinks the original and all other covers of this particular song is to be taken in a sexual matter...I mean it works but Reznor meant it to represent a suicidal person on a slow decay to his fate.
........this song is about a Nymphomaniac.........the craving for sex is like a drug and he'd do anything for it........no. what universe does 'I wanna fuck you like an animal' mean I'm suicidal and my life is decaying????
Trent said this. you come along and say that instead. I think I'll stick with Trent's "this". that's what kind of universe we live in, where we listen to logic.
I never said that that wasn't the message it sent. I just put in there what i found from my search of what the song originally meant. Because as i said the chorus kinda makes that message torn up and thrown in the garbage. And if only because of the smarts within me, it's "I want to fuck you like an animal" not "I want to fuck you up, like an animal" as that would imply being maimed not in the process of baby making
I think if they threw in a singing vocal on the last Chorus it would have been better. I liked the Screaming part, but I was waiting for the singing to make it's round again.
good cover version, I wish it didn't have any screaming though. don't get me wrong, I don't mind metal songs with screaming in it, I just don't feel it really suits this song.
This is so great. I love how they didn't completely core-ify it, but instead start in the original and progressively get heavier :] Danny has such a groovy voice, works with this so well.
Why are people hating on this? it's actually not that bad. Want a cover to hate on, try falling in reverse's cover of "Gangsta's Paradise" now that is sickening
I LOVE this! It's less laid back than original song, this is more animalistic. I love the powerful instrumentals and vocals. To each their own, though!
NIN was one of favorite bands in the 90's and this album was easily a defining aspect of my early teen years. That being said, this cover was really amazing. I loved how they incorporated many of the original, subtle, layers of music into this version but in their own stylistic way. The video was damn good too. Visual styling befitting the source material and an incredibly ravishing and dangerous looking woman. Very nice.
Okay can people please stop saying "since when is..... punk?" They don't actually mean just punk it's supposed to be in that General area of music so just shut the hell up and listen to the music of you like it and don't if you don't. Thaaaanks bui :3
dirty vocals came from punk. so, the modern metal got some punk in it. and yes, the smashing pumpkins and MCR are not punk. MCR started with something like Emo.
Nathaniel Schembri Ok maybe not as dark now that I listen to it again, but listen to the guitars in this song versus the other. And the vocals. This song is WAY heavier than the NIN version, simply because this is a heavier band period. AA isn't a heavy band really by any stretch, but they're heavier than NIN that's for sure. Don't even try to argue that.
Definitely NOT as bad as I expected it to be. That's a hard song to do a cover of and still do it justice, especially since it's kind of a classic. Not bad though.
I've been a fan of Nine Inch Nails since I was in my father's sack. I was raised on them from the womb until birth and as I was growing up. I own all of their Halos, all of their remixes, everything they do. They're easily my all-time favorite band. As for Asking Alexandria, I think they're pretty hit and miss. They've got some good tracks, but nothing I really crave listening to. This cover. I fucking love it. I love how they stayed so true to the original for the first chorus, then built in their style in the second chorus. I'm a huge fan of this cover. Not too shabby at all.
Reading the comments fills me with joy, people know their good music. Now it did start off fairly decent and then they just... well you can hear it but saying that, it's not as bad as I expected. They had a million other 90's songs to cover and this is their choice? Make a "Pop goes 80's" and it could work with these dudes.
I got stoned one time, put this song on and zoned right out for the entire duration, but managed to get one side of my rubix cube done. My high ass was so excited at the time because it was a 4x4 cube. 🤦🏻♀️
this song makes you feel things you never knew you could feel
Katie pixxie cusano HONESTLY TRUE. 🌚
Katie pixxie cusano never heard the NIN original??? cause this is great but the original is still amazing
The original makes me feel like I'm closer to God, like my existence being fucked like an animal and felt deep in the inside.
Honey Bee of course I have but dannys screams adds a little more orgasm to the song
😏😏

Just show them the NIN music video. It'll do the same thing with less effort.
lol

because its about heroin
You were little. It's natural. If you understood back then, you probably had a disturbing childhood.

Barney I love you song
The growls accentuate the primal nature of the song, fits so fucking perfectly.
The screaming and intensity can give this a very different meaning

😅😅😅

agree, they kinda over did it
Im generally not a huge fan of AA, but i can recognize that they have musical talent. Choosing a Nine Inch Nails song to cover was just a bad move.
They had Ice Nine Kills on this album too. They should've given Closer to INK
Unless you're Johnny Cash because that version of Hurt is awesome.
good cover version, I wish it didn't have any screaming though. don't get me wrong, I don't mind metal songs with screaming in it, I just don't feel it really suits this song.
+Nope. I really think there should be more screaming. The first 3 minutes just sound like someone trying to redo the original track
+Nope. Not sure if it would be better, but at leat more authentic
+Nope.bro I was almost two minutes in and was sad
+Nope. I dig your picture haha
xXLesleyyXx tool for days!
I’m a HUGE NIN fan, and I was so amazed hearing Asking Alexandria’s version of this.. I dare say… it’s my favorite lol
I don't think anyone can take that cover seriously enough to hate it lol
That's how I feel Ghost. I wasn't sure how to react to Ronnie pulling that off.. lul
I know it's not that bad, but I'd hate it if I start to see 12 year olds talking about it when I bring up the NIN one in public.
You do not know music. Rap+Metal not everyone can do that friend
Arogon Aro It's not that hard dude...hence why there's an entire genre of bands doing it
Was a huge fan of NIN back in the day, thought I'd hate this.. but it's brilliant
Wow, most creative, yet, respectful NIN covers I've hear.
I LOVE this! It's less laid back than original song, this is more animalistic. I love the powerful instrumentals and vocals. To each their own, though!
I play this song while I'm getting dressed 😏
Wouldnt it me more suitable for getting undressed though? XD
Be*
wolf spartan True xD
+Obey Zinxy lol
+Zoe Fuentes prove it.
Very nice.
I love how this retains the original's buildup but does it in a completely different way. Cool cover.
probably the best punk goes (anything) song ever. NIN and AA kick ass
Not too bad I enjoy both versions honestly.
It's 2020 and it's still my fav cover for the song.
these comments make me die inside
It's a bird, its a plane, its trent reznor, NOOO its fucking asking alexandria.
nice Periphery reference xD
That was Genius even though i liked the cover. Periphery FTW
Glad you guys caught the reference. Stay metal, fellow Djentlemen.
dudeserpent77 this made my day.
I expected to be shiet, but boy, was I proved wrong. Well done, AA, you guys surprised me with this one.
I'm in love with all of this. The video and the way the song is preformed.
Okay can people please stop saying "since when is..... punk?" They don't actually mean just punk it's supposed to be in that General area of music so just shut the hell up and listen to the music of you like it and don't if you don't. Thaaaanks bui :3
But these bands aren't even close to the punk genre, punk is The Smashing Pumkins and Misfits, not fucking MCR and AA. It should be rock goes
yeah but they're just covers. it really doesn't matter what genre they are all that matters is that they're good
+Dino Stomp ..... so, "punk" only encompasses bands from 20-30 years ago ? .... and the pumpkins were NOT punk. So very not punk.
+jasmine tebbetts I think they were going with what sounded best..
dirty vocals came from punk. so, the modern metal got some punk in it. and yes, the smashing pumpkins and MCR are not punk. MCR started with something like Emo.
I love how dark and heavy this feels as opposed to the NIN version. I actually prefer this, way more energy.
lol you are kidding right? this is more dark and heavy than the NIN version? have you ever listened to Nine Inch Nails?
Nathaniel Schembri I was about to write the same thing
Nathaniel Schembri and watch the video, hell.
Denn Roth well grammar is not your strong suit.
Bad choice for a song. However choosing a song that is so iconic may have been the mistake.
It ain't got shit on the original, but when we're talking NiN, no one does. This is actually pretty good in any other term.
I agree.
Trent and NiN have a unique style that I think no one can really truly cover just because of how unique it is.
+Baka Max Well...Johnny cash did a better Hurt version
+Lee “Billy Mays” Cameron Debatable
+Kataquan even nin said it was better, how is that debatable?
2023 and still love this.
OH MY GOD. ONE OF MY FAVORITE NIN SONGS COVERED BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS? WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO DO THIS TO ME.
sexiest song in existence?
This song looks like what I picture an acid trip to be like
Never realized this was a cover. I only know this song from In this moments version lol. Fascinating.
Why so much hate. I dont like a lot of covers that sound the same as original. i like when they add their own style of music to it.
the song is shitty in the first place... I don't hate the style change, but in a way it made the song even more disgusting.
Definitely the best cover
Video, sounds tracks, voice, synchronisation between them are incredible. How to explain the instinct animal of human beings
I was laughing the whole time. Making my friends watch this lmao
You're so edgy ! Haha
Good Ra.. this will be played at my funeral. Adding it to my list right now.
this is absolutely perfection. one of my favorite bands doing a cover of one of my favorite songs.
Seriously don't understand why come here to hate. And besides people got different tastes in music and has a right to an opinion
Can't say I'm surprised that they'd do this cover hahaha
Love these vibes 🖤
Not as good as the original, but respect has been given
Reading the comments fills me with joy, people know their good music. Now it did start off fairly decent and then they just... well you can hear it but saying that, it's not as bad as I expected. They had a million other 90's songs to cover and this is their choice? Make a "Pop goes 80's" and it could work with these dudes.
well that got the juices flowing......sums it up for me 😤
This and in this moments’ cover for this song are absolutely phenomenal
I though my day couldn't get any better.
This cover is amazing.
I like this version a lot better,I mean I like NIN but this version just gives me chills. I mean this will be the song I'm losing my virginity to man.
omg. I love your fucking comment. you're fucking awesome. xD
Wanna hang out and listen to song covers? XD
that would be gr8
+wolf spartan yes
So, did ya? 😂
did trent reznor say anything about this
Oh my God yes, one of my favourite bands covering a song by another one of my favourite bands.
I got stoned one time, put this song on and zoned right out for the entire duration, but managed to get one side of my rubix cube done. My high ass was so excited at the time because it was a 4x4 cube. 🤦🏻♀️
this song is literally nine inches away from god
aex hooder Bah dum tiss
*10 inch
JD pitmint you know what else is nine inches ;). Nine inch nails
How about 69 inchs away from god? ;)
I just remembered this existed and I’m so happy 🙃
Danny's voice is amazing ♥♥
am I the only one who imagines that 2:05 is moment when the Dom ignores the safeword and it's no longer consensual?
when a cover is better than the original
Hahah Asking Alexandria featured on the same album as Yellowcard. Did not see this day coming.
Should hear the Akon cover they did, they have been featured with other weird bands as well on these compilation albums
this is so nice.
i love everything about this cover.
This is the best remake I’ve ever heard in my liiiiiffffeee! Yaaassssss! 🙋🏻♀️
I want what she's wearing...thanks. Make sure it's packed well.
