Math ain't math'n here... Stand Up And Scream came out sept 15 2009. If you were 17 when it dropped you'd be 31/32 (depending if your birthday was before or after the release) around the time you commented, so you had to have been 14/15 to be 29 around the time you commented. (not trying to call you out, I just believe you made a misinformed statement, no biggie).
Back in 2014 I had depression so bad I was suicidal and got locked away in a mental hospital. We weren't allowed to have any device's and I remember hearing this song before I got in the hospital. And I sang this song everyday from memory all the way until I got out and I will always love this song no matter what💙
@Cody Webb He's right though. Emo is something you either stick with, move on from, or never get into. Most people move on from it, and keep the musical style with it. That's why they move to other subgenres than scene.

FOR REALLL!! Danny is the reason I got into metelcore and stuff. I've always been like a fan of pretty much all other music besides super heavy metal and country but then my buddy played this for me and that's all it took lol
Not a single one of you understand this kind of music. You have to understand that he was 17-18 when he made this song. He's been though a lot in his life, and he writes these lyrics as a form of relief. And he writes them in a way where anybody, adults and kids included, can relate. He's doing no harm to you people who decide to criticize this music, by writing about how he feels. He's doing more right now than any of you criticizers will ever do in your entire life. He's saved a lot of people with depression or anger, or however you want to take these lyrics as. You've done nothing to help with mankind. Go somewhere else with your opinion where it actually makes sense. Thank you.
+Richard Brown Even if it wasn't just him who wrote the lyrics you my friend put it better than any one else could and i thank you for that! seriously man hat's of to you well said (y)
like reconnecting with an old friend, it still evokes the same feelings and all the emotions rush back, grateful that we all survived. I didnt think i was getting out alive. Still one of the best songs of AA.
God I wish I could go back and see them live in this era. I miss the days I was finding out about Asking Alexandria, Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Like Moths To Flames, and so many more of the era. TAKE ME BACK!!!!
This is my favourite song by them. Danny's voice here just hits different specially when he starts singing" I should've known the tides were getting higher..."
Heartagram I was in 9th as well. I've really grown out of the genre, but you can't really go wrong with going back every now and then to reminisce on the good old days.
Christian Hoover That's very true, I love how music can bring a person back to their younger days. I don't listen to AA much, but I still listen to other bands and other genres. I doubt I'll ever stop rocking out to the music I listened to as a kid though lol.
Haven’t listened to this song in like 7 years. I just cried so much lol I just remembered how I would self harm and hated my life but I’m 19 now and I moved out of my parents house, doing exactly what I said I would at that low point in my life. Things are better now, mentally too. This song really helped me back then.. I appreciate it so much
+Nick Sibilla I hear ya. I like that Dennis has helped push the band closer to what it was originally, but he doesn't seem as tormented as Danny was here. Still happy they are willing to get closer to God, even if it is still only at arm-flailling's-length.
This song got me into metal music. A girl I was talking to at the time in high school said to check this song out. The rest is history with Slipknot, Deftones, Tool, and Chevelle being my favorite bands. But Asking Alexandria always had that special feeling with me, especially "A Prophecy". Thanks to AA and my friend, Paige. Without both of you, I wouldn't feel this nostalgic.
This isnt AA...thank baby virgin jesus Danny is back....this is just screamo.sad attempts.....fyi I was listening to slipknot before you were born...back when they had wait and bleed on cassette....
nick mcwilliams nick mcwilliams this is not screamo homie. Screamo are bands like: Saetia, Raein, Touche Amore (to some degree), Circle Takes the Square, this is metalcore with uber post-hardcore like clean vocals. You knowledge of music and its evolution is minimal.
What a time to be 14 years old & pulling inspiration from bands such as AA. This album changed my life. There’s something in the power of music that comes from a real place. When music can express what you have trouble putting into words. It makes you want to learn how you can change others lives through music as well. The level of musicianship of old scene bands is phenomenal. From the lyricism, the message & how it’s delivered, to the fact that these bands made a whole new sound to express their art. Asking Alexandria has always received the most shit from gatekeeping bitter people who lack the ability to see the pure genius in their debut album. Those guys were fucking kids in 2009. They became voices of hope and inspiration for so many fucked up kids just like me. The level of community within the scene group back then is something I miss. Definitely the most underrated & genuine movements in modern rock and roll history, the atmosphere reminded me of the communal vibe of 90’s Seattle. Fans felt included because they actually were included. Amazing bands who supported their fan base because they actually understood music is life-inspiring. It had the potential to save kids from leaving this place who were just like them. What I wouldn’t do to be at warped tour in 2013 again. Meeting these guys back then at shows was commonplace because they never thought they were too good for others.
I was listening to this in 6th grade... And now just finished high school... Enjoy the time you have while you have it because it flies dude (: Cheers to anyone here in 2019 with me!
This is genuinely me. Except I graduated about a year ago. All I wanted to do was leave high school. Now I would give anything to be back with my friends.
Oh my god I remember sitting in computer class at school and listening to these music videos while doing work. That was half my life ago. Damn time flies.
@@jasonbentley9968 you said it best man. R.I.P BMTH i was a fan up until this last release i gave TTS a chance and i absolutely loved it more than any other album but amo is plain out boring.
When it comes down to Electronicore, only one band is above them all and that is Asking Alexandria. Damn 8th grade was a long time ago, but a time I will never forget 🤘💯.
@@blakedurston Why don't you people get that they are human and its their band. They said before and before again they make their music mostly for them. To get there anger and emotion out. If you truly love aa you'd like whatever they put out. If not listen to their old albums. Danny is a human dealing with post alchohol addiction and for some reason it won't get through your thick skulls. He also just joined back into the band so it's a nice welcome back from what he was doing. Be happy with what you get because he could be doing vocals like he is with his new project. They're still great and talented musicians and you act like they don't play their old songs. Grow up already because they have.
@@blakedurston They've been going in a more hard rock and metal direction since Reckless. Just compare this album to Reckless. Way less emo. Everyone knew it was coming. Danny wanted to be a rockstar and make rock music since the beginning. This was the gateway to that and they were still kids on MySpace when they made this album. They grew up and embraced their influences.
justaguy392 I'm always debating whether or not I like metalcore. I like this band, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, and early Avenged Sevenfold, but I like other metal much better. My favorites are thrash, doom, groove, and power.
I actually was one of the few who skipped this whole “screamo and scene” music back in 2009-2010 and finally gave them a listen this year. I wish I wouldn’t have skipped them
you have reached that place in life where staind and seether and shinedown just cant prove how fucking serious you are so boom drop a bomb on them and say...i warned you fuckers. I wanna watch the whole world burn down... This is my late AA discovery ...lol
My son is 20 and started listening to them about 2 years ago I think and he kept playing this song and it stuck to me I really like it, today he got his first tattoo of the lyrics “ how stubborn are the scars that won’t fade away but just a gentle reminder that now are better days”
as the years go by now in 2024 this song still hits places too hard we dont have songs like this anymore i wanna go back to 2010 have to relive discovering AA ETF BTF again and fall over in love with the old emo days
Damn, I’m 15 and I remember being about 7 years old and my older brother and his buddy listening to this song. They influenced me so much as a kid. Coming back and listening to it makes me wanna cry. They both died in a car crash in 2017. 💔🙏
xDickerson 21 sorry for your lose! I lost my step brother Elijah in Germany from a car crash 😭! I know how you feel just keep holding on even though I’m just a random person on the internet I still watch out for those even if i can’t save my self
Oi this band I won't say saved my life, cuz i'm no clichéd bitch (I hate when people always say ''omg this band saved my life'' NO making better decisions saved your fucking life) but i truly gotta say this band helped me push through a lot of bullshit I was going through. Thank you very much Asking Alexandria !!
Same here... happy I had the mind enough to figure shit out on my own. But, for the times when I just wanted to separate and not think about shit, I'd turn on AA and blast it...
If you're reading this and it makes sense to you, just know that I will always love you - even if we're apart. I always pray that you are ok and that you are happy wherever you are. I'm so proud of you.
ME ENCANTA!!!

Rip to my brother Ashlee Ray Miles, I remembered when he showed me this song, got me into metal, started wearing teal skinny jeans after that 😂 can’t believe this is the song that changed everything. Forever loving this. RIP Ashlee I will always love you Rest In Peace.
Heard this when I was 18 - read on a forum about the album so went out and bought it - became an instant fan. Turning 32 this year and I still play the album on a near daily basis. While it's not the most technically proficient album - I never cared about that because there are other bands that filled the void for me. Sometimes there are bands that are capable of great beauty with their simplicity and AA certainly was one of those bands with this release. Thank you guys for the memories and I wish you continued success on your musical journey. A fan from 2009 and still am today.
ZLOYTracer Danny always had to sing the second part of the chorus on a lower melody live, even during the stand up and scream days. So does Dennis. Neither have ever sang the chorus 100% note for note during a live performance.
Meh but Danny's screamo and vocals in first two albums sound much better in record, like true AA, but the present AA sounds more like BMTH, which i don't prefer.

+Kourtne Johnson There is nothing to be sad about, its a really good band. Welcome to hr AA family 💕
I was 17 when this song came out, I’m 29 and this song still slaps like it did the first time I heard it.
what time same bro same its 😢😢😢😢😢 when i heard this my heart my eyes like 😢😢
Math ain't math'n here...

And I sang this song everyday from memory all the way until I got out and I will always love this song no matter what💙
anything that could help you out of darkness is good. and this song is amazing.
Chloe Lewis yea um... why ?
Same happened to me
@Jorgekg thx
@Jorgekg I was locked up for 4 days
These type of bands are changing. They weren’t appreciated enough and now people are realizing how good this music was.
Nope, its because people grew old enough to release how edgy and cringy the lyrics are. Instead they've moved on to better metal subgenres.
I see stars...
Jack Light agreed
Leonlx I can see that but it’s still a good song regardless of how people think of it or me
@Cody Webb He's right though. Emo is something you either stick with, move on from, or never get into. Most people move on from it, and keep the musical style with it. That's why they move to other subgenres than scene.
How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away?
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
We'll be home soon, so dry your eyes,
You'll be okay (you'll be okay!)
Oh my God!
The water is rising!
It's rising!
You just have to believe in me!
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone!
We can still make it out,
'Fuck'
I can help you through this,
But you have to take my hand!
I can take you home,
Take my hand,
Take my hand!
I should've known the tides were getting higher.
We can still survive.
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves,
Above the waves.

(We can still survive)
(Above the waves)
(I should've known the tides were getting higher)
(I should've known the tides were getting higher)

You never said goodbye, goodbye!

And now you're on your own!
You never said goodbye!
You never said goodbye, goodbye!
Danny’s vocal is masterpiece
FOR REALLL!! Danny is the reason I got into metelcore and stuff. I've always been like a fan of pretty much all other music besides super heavy metal and country but then my buddy played this for me and that's all it took lol
“They think that were drowning but our heads are still above the waves” that line hits hard
Thank you.
Well fucking said 👏
Richard Brown you sir, are absolutely right, I wish I could shake your hand
So true, although the guitar player rights the lyrics but still not a big deal
***** Partially true. but they actually wrote them together and yes most of the songs involve Danny's life, up's and down's.
+Richard Brown Even if it wasn't just him who wrote the lyrics you my friend put it better than any one else could and i thank you for that! seriously man hat's of to you well said (y)

This is my favourite song by them. Danny's voice here just hits different specially when he starts singing" I should've known the tides were getting higher..."
0:32 This is nearly the most beautiful clean vocal line that i ever heard..Good job Danny.
I remember when this song first came out..I was in the 9th grade and I LOVED IT. Now I'm about to start my 2nd year in college this Fall.
Heartagram Seventh grade for me when it came out and I started listening to them. Now I'm a senior in high school.
I'm in the same boat lol . Freshman year , what a riot bro ! First year in college for me though this 17th . Good luck amigo
+Heartagram Some songs stay with us no matter how much we change because for most part the lyrics speak out to the person...

I appreciate it so much
I love Dennis and think the new album is great but there is just something about this album and Danny's vocals that just cannot ever be replaced.

yep
+Nick Sibilla I hear ya. I like that Dennis has helped push the band closer to what it was originally, but he doesn't seem as tormented as Danny was here. Still happy they are willing to get closer to God, even if it is still only at arm-flailling's-length.
thats right
Man, i'm 30 already still not believe that the time goes so fast
Those clean vocals and guitar work at 1:31 is so so good, big fan of that vocal tone
Toby Partridge it’s so spot on
This song got me into metal music.
And Tool and Chevelle are not metal. And Deftones are borderline. Kids..
Deftones Is Beast!
nick mcwilliams nick mcwilliams this is not screamo homie.

Meeting these guys back then at shows was commonplace because they never thought they were too good for others.
beautifully put, brother. very grateful we have access to this material, it’s like a time machine.
I was listening to this in 6th grade... And now just finished high school... Enjoy the time you have while you have it because it flies dude (:

@Jerry Naylor that's your opinion
When it comes down to Electronicore, only one band is above them all and that is Asking Alexandria. Damn 8th grade was a long time ago, but a time I will never forget 🤘💯.
Funny to think Asking Alexandria was the biggest metalcore band back in those days. Ahhh Nostalgia...
Their still great but yeah miss the original songs
Then they went and released whatever that shitty album with the red cover is called
@@blakedurston They just grew up and decided to go with something else, other than the emo stuff they used to.
