Every time he makes a new video about strategy or a specific thing to practice, within 2 weeks its all you'll see (silver-gold at least) but now its demos. Every game. Its fun as a side game but sunless as essentially make ranked a demolition derby game

For real LOL I like to think I'm that guy, but I'm not gonna lie I get upset at repeated demos sometimes...just means I gotta up my game lol
I respect demos, because I really like to use them, especially in 1s. I demo so much in 1s because it basically gives me free possession and on many occasions a free goal. I am a New England Patriots fan who lives in NYC so I know what it's liked to be hated. Over the years I have learned to embrace the hate that comes from salty NFL fans, and it's the same thing with demos. I love it when people in chat say f*** you, and gkys and stuff like that because what their getting mad about is so stupid and I know their wrong when they say that demos don't take skill. I am also a Gold so people aren't the best at avoiding demos.

@@Woodyyyy Dodging the demo isn't hard but it'll usually leave you ofput of position, especially if timed right. Some people even fake demos just to make you jump to turn away from a save.

Anyone who has actually tried to demo much knows it is extremely difficult to pull it off successfully because you are pretty much taking yourself out of the game and the only way to benefit from it is to consistently get 1-2 demos on every attempt. If you don't, then your team is in a 2v3 and you get scored on real quick. Getting demos consistently is tremendously difficult at plat or above because people often move too fast for your boost supply, jump in the air for aerials, or go on the wall. Because of this, I respect players like woody and rocket sledge who can pull this off.

Not really hard to do. If u find it hard to do than u just dont comprehend rl enough. What if i told you to understand how to use demos effectively without "taking yourself out of the game" u need to first understand how to win without bumping or demoing at all
Yeah it's definitely a skill, I've been trying to work on getting better at it. But you don't need to take yourself out of the game while doing it. My teammates and I often do a 'slow cross' move where you dribble it along the wing, then as you come to the corner you either just leave the ball to turn the corner itself or push it up the wall a bit, then boost ahead of the ball and go for the goalkeeper in net; if you miss them then either rotate back to center or get their other corner boost to starve them. Best case scenario you take out the goalkeeper and your teammates get the easiest goal as it rolls in front of the goal; worst case you miss and the opponent clears it to your waiting teammate (and you are rotating back to get back in position). It's a bit riskier in 2s since you're committing your whole team to the attack, but even more effective when you pull it off. That being said I'm C1/2 not C3/GC so Woody is a whole other level of tactics to deal with!
I think the real skill is lining up your opponent's in ways where even if they dodge you successfully it still disadvantages them. Also knowing when to maximise the risk/reward.

Honestly, there's really nothing in the Game that makes me mad anymore, besides that one thing, DEMOS. I have no idea why, but Demos just make me salty. While i never say anything in Chat, and in general i never agressively spam quickchat either, getting demoed is the only thing that makes me mad enough to actually quickchat spam.

Well, i see them like this: Demos are a game mechanic with the sole purpose of making players that try to play the game wait. And because rocket league is a very fast game those few seconds you need to wait can feel like hours if you want to act on something but cant.

Along with the other replies there's also the element that you're always focused on doing something in rocket league. Like if you're about to take a shot or make a save and you get interrupted by a demo it's like having 2 annoying things happen at once.

Why do people always say "Bumps and demos take no skill" when it's one of the most difficult things to pull off in a game especially at a higher level because people are more aware.
Yeah exactly, that and it's literally an in-game mechanic. Like it's a part of the game. How can you get mad at something that someone is doing that directly helps them win and is not cheating as it's meant to be in-game??
100% this. Whenever I play pros in 1s I notice that they're solid mechanically, but I've always said it's like they have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding demos -- it's probably the most stark difference for me vs regular GCs (since I'm a pretty demo heavy player). It's hard to demo GCs as we're somewhat aware, but these guys are another level. They're just so efficient with their pathing. I can imagine that's how lower ranked players feel trying to demo GCs: there is 100% a ton of skill in hitting demos on good players (not saying Woody is low ranked though).
No, pulling of a flip reset or ceiling shot at a higher level is even harder when the opponents aerial challenges are always going to be good. That is why in rlcs when someone pulls of a ceiling shot or flip reset everyone one goes crazy because everyone is super high skilled
It's cause the majority of the community is not "higher level," so it's very easy to bump and demo. Even at higher level, it's certainly easier to go for a bump/demo than it is to avoid one. All it comes down to is knowing where the opponent has to be to save a shot, and driving at that spot. If you demo, great. If you bump, they still aren't saving it. If you miss, still, depending on your timing, the opponent might not be able to get back to the ball after avoiding you. Sure, saying they take "no skill" is exaggerating, but they aren't a difficult mechanic to pull off.
@@pohsm Rizzo's "leave the ball and go for Gimmick" demo play was far more celebrated than most flip resets. Sure, flip resets are more mechanically difficult (I certainly get more hyped from a flip reset than an average demo goal) but that doesn't mean that being excellent at demos isn't a difficult task. If it was so easy, everybody would play like Woody: every reasonable playstyle is equally hard because people push them to their limits.
This strategy is no where near as rage inducing as my teammate’s play style. They fake the ball right in front of me almost every time

The rl community is so messed up I’m in low gold and me and two of my friends decided that we were going to put the entire Phineas and Ferb intro into chat line by line, and people got mad at that. Also we lost a lot of the games we did this.

I know I would not like being on the receiving end of those demos, but man that was hilarious watching those streamers rage.
From a game design perspective, I can see the demo strat being a problem because it means the targeted player has a few seconds wherein they can't do anything, making the game less fun for them, especially when demoed repeatedly. So this particular strategy is more infuriating than if you had won using some other unorthodox strategy. Something like a 3-second buffer after a respawn where you can't get demoed again, may fix the problem, again from a game design perspective.
From a player perspective, rules are rules, points are points, wins are wins. I respect any strat that isn't hacking or throwing. if it really is a dominant strategy, then maybe the meta should shift in that direction. If it's not a dominant strategy, then it's on the player to improve past it, figure out how to deal with it.
As a dev I would fix this. They are lucky the rl dev's are lazy
Halo and Call of Duty had this same “problem” though they’re one of the funnest games out there. No one likes to get virtually killed, not even in RL, COD, or Halo, it’s a part of the game, even getting spawn killed can happen in all 3. Now there are ways to avoid getting killed in the games, though it is up to the player.
As a game dev for something like this and the way it works in rocket league I wouldn't care as it provides more ways for players to play and you have to learn how to really get good at it, plus it doesn't guarantee a win or loss either, this seems like a fair gameplay mechanic

Hey Sunless, great video! Here is an idea for a rocket league experiment. You would have a lower rank rocket league player (bronze - plat) a medium rank rocket league player (diamond - low champ) and a high level rocket league player. (High GC - RLCS pro) You would have all of them play a few matches with an eye tracker and compare the results. Hope you like this idea!
Demoing is a valid strategy in Rocket league, i like how there so many people who rage from it.
Because its cheap and annoying, its like if you played soccer/football without fouls it would just turn into a blood bath and every player would be maimed by the end of the game. I think anyone would be pissed if they were getting demoed constantly since you cant contribute to the game at all coz you aren't really in the game. This is coming from someone who has hated the demo mechanic from the very beginning so yeah Im biased but it is a pretty lame way to play if you win because the opponent is literally unable to defend anything because they are demoed, but hey winnings winning right?
@@johnkeane2183 Demo'ing is a legit mechanic. It's not as easy as people think or else everyone would do it and it would become OP. Avoiding demos is also a mechanic lol. Having good game sense to know where all the players are at on the field, the ability to control your car if you have to jump to make a save and avoid the bump, it all comes in to play. You can't ignore this aspect of the game

Like I've been on the internet a while, I've encountered a lot of toxicity, but toxic moba players are on another level. I didn't mind em too much. I just kept my mouth shut when dealing with it. Because there is also a bit of a mind game involved with the demos. I even joined forces with em cause watching the chat was kinda funny tbh.

Yeah it would be a way better game without demos, most annoying mechanic in the game for sure. Hated that aspect from the very beginning and I'm pretty sure anyone would rage at getting demoed constantly, like literally he demoed the guy on respawn like 3 times in a row, that is going to suck. Think about it you decide I know what to do with my free time I'll enjoy some rocket league and then you play a game where 80% of the time you are waiting to respawn just to get demoed again, that's gonna feel like a big waste of time.
@@johnkeane2183I am a big demo player and getting others salty helps as then the opponent plays worse, if someone is constantly demoing me I'm not upset, I realize it's my fault for not doing anything to counteract it, and If your able to spawn kill me that well then that's impressive

It's not being used as intended. Infact in the tos unsportsmanlike conduct is against the rules. They just don't enforce the rules.

Lupix no wtf? Do you not know how it works? It’s hella easy to bump someone and demo someone if the persons playstyle IS demoing. That makes them skilled in that field, so it’s pretty hard to dodge them

@@mdnght5592 70% of people who I play don't play like Dimonds or Champs at all or I just have low expectations of higher level players. And if ur right then i feel very good about beating dimonds and champs cause I am a gold in 2's and 3's as well.
