My son is mostly nonverbal and something about seeing Murf being treated as a valid Starfleet Academy candidate even though they still can't understand what he is saying made me so happy. ❤

I think that's a quite wanted thing. Each of the characters can work as a figure of identification. Young male uncertainty, autistic, pressure of expectation, outcast etc.
My BFF passed away in February and we watched all of prodigy and voyager together. I cannot wait to watch this new season in his honor. He was so excited for this! We even played the prodigy game for switch.

I'm 10 episodes into season 2 and it is genuinely one of the best Trek shows I've seen in a while, with characters and stories that feel just like Trek should but with all new ideas. I'm also loving Maj'el, love that she's named after Majel, and she has this different attitude and perspective, but ultimately not a 'bully' character that they could have made her
PRO S2 definitely off to a strong start with its first 5 eps, going in various ways I didnt expect to. All the characters have their moments and stories and I just love that, while the returning legacy characters have their time to shine yet not overshadow.
I do want to bring up Maj'El though, she's been great and I feel has the potential to get to T'Lyn levels of popularity and fan adoration. Its cool that she's not only an obvious tribute to the late Majel Barret, but our first relatively young Vulcan that yet is relatively standard when compared to the quirks of Spock, Tuvok, T'Pol and T'Lyn. Would be neat if she becomes the seventh member of the ensemble.
And its also amusing that she's voiced by Michaela Dietz, who most will probably know as the voice of Amethyst from Steven Universe.
17:39 I noticed the younger version of the angry lady didn’t seem comfortable with what she was seeing from her future self. That could be a very interesting plot to explore.
I'm glad that Netflix released all episodes of season 2, I'm just finished watching episode 14, I'm now going to watch the rest of the season. Now, I really want season 3 and more seasons.
This would be worth getting Netflix back for a month to watch. Prodigy is great, and has one of the best theme songs in the franchise.
Star Trek Prodigy is my favorite Star Trek show.

At the end of season 1 when they make it to Starfleet, Zero gets a new shiny white suit, and I wasn’t wild about it because it had so much less character to it than his original home built from scraps suit. I am pleasantly surprised that whether they made tweaks to the design or something, I am not bothered by it so much anymore. Zero’s character is coming across just the same.
I’m only episode 1, and let me tell you I’m very bothered by the suit. Hopefully it grows on me
@@thescifiZipacna i love how they handle zero and don’t make it an obvious lesson in pronouns like discover did. Id like to see zero be a little conflicted sometimes and maybe make a mistake here and there but other than that they have done a great job
Best Star Trek show. Such BS that they tried to cancel it. Just a note from the future, I don't think wanting what you don't have is wrong. Each character is making choices about what to pursue, and I'm finding all their choices interesting... _without_ judgment. I see where you're coming from wrt Zero, but I respectfully disagree.
So far, I like this season more than the first season. And I mostly liked the first season. For me, the second half was better than the first. This season started with a bang and hasn’t slowed down.
Loved the "Rodrigo" (Picardo's instagram posts) and Cerritos (Lower Decks) references from The Doctor

Some notes:
- I thought Episode 5 was making it clear that the mysterious benefactor was Chakotay
- I was really worried Maj'El was going to be a "replacement goldfish" for Gwyn, and I'm glad they went a different route (even lampshading the very idea)
- If you, like me, caught the Orion wearing blue, no-Aaron Waltke says that's not Tendi
- Speaking of: fam, I know it's cringe to develop romantic feelings for an animated character-doubly so if they're nonhuman-but I'm in love with Gillian 🐳 ♥
The name Gillian also being a reference to a character in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
@@CirienoI caught that and immediately started crying with joy. Indicates to me that Gillian is a descendant (by my math, great grandkid) of George and Gracie.
The Cali class missing from the big fight in Picard S3 is so on brand for that class: they don’t have time for parades and crap! They have 20 planets they gotta do follow up visits on.
Please, share this series as much as possible. Season 3 depends on us!

I've watched episodes 1-6 last night. I am really impressed with season 2 so far. It may replace SNW as my favorite Trek of the streaming era. The writing, the characterizations and performances, and visuals are first rate.
The animated Star Trek is the only stuff I have enjoyed in ages. I am so glad to get a second season, hopefully there will be more seasons.

saw your video show up, quickly went to netflix to watch first 5 episodes, and back here for your review. however i dont have the self control to hold out for the rest of the season.
sometimes when there is some form of easter egg, i know its there but dont know what it is. i was hoping for an explanation about Dr Erin, thank you. (also thought that lesson is probably one of the scariest lectures possible in the star trek universe).
meanwhile i have a very different opinion about the music, its great yes, however i am constantly feeling teased. i do hope we hear something closer to the Voyager theme at some significant point.

Just saw the first 4 episodes with my kids and it's an amazing show.
Watching it again and Janeaway's officers threw in to disobey the Admiral's orders and go through the wormhole REALLY FAST. She picks exactly who she wants, people who will say things like "yours are the only orders I'll follow. give the word and we go."
First time I experienced Cetacean Ops was in a Star Trek TTRPG actual play done by the Streampunks. The Clear Skies actual play started Jan of 2020 and has a Half-Caitian Half-Kzinti Chief Medical Officer, so I was very surprised when I watched those Lower Decks episodes.
I love that the Voyager-A is like an Intrepid/Sovereign/Odyssey mashup
Sir Isaac Newton played himself in TNG (and I think he played a Ferengi waiter in DS9).
I'm so glad that Netflix picked up series 2 this series and I wonder if the whale in Cetacean Ops called itself Gillian in memory of Dr Gillian Taylor from Star Trek IV. Erin was fun when she did Temporal Mechanics 101.
My only bugbear with season 2 is that in the early episodes at least, Dal seems to have backslid a bit from the character growth he'd experienced by the end of season 1, plus he was CONSTANTLY talking about top-secret stuff in corridors where anyone could just walk by and overhear, and that's exactly what happened!
But aside from that, it's a great second season, and Prodigy is honestly underrated, and it feels very Trek. It embraces the optimism of found family and striving to be better than you are, which is honestly the most Trek thing I can think of. People who are perfect are a bit boring, people who aren't perfect but are striving to be better are more relatable and better role models.
I knew I recognized the name Erin MacDonald, but couldn’t recall from where. That’s really great. Reminds me of my favorite bit of trivia from Steven Hawking’s appearance. He only agreed to the scene of poker with Newton and Einstein if he won the game.
You forgot the name Ascencia, but remembered Vau N'Akat without taking a beat? Not criticising, just thought it was funny 😂
Oh man, I missed the notifs for your reviews here. I know Kipo is cute and all, but somehow you managed to miss the most important part of explaining STP's cancellation, that Season 2 was basically complete when it was cancelled and that's a large part of why it got brought over to Netflix. Also a reason why it likely won't get a season 3 as easily, unfortunately.
I also occasionally attempt to repress the memory of Jankum Pog's existence by replacing him with a second Rok'Tahk.

Nitpicking I know but we're nerds its our bread and butter, but Cetacean Ops I think is first brought up in Yesterday's Enterprise as an unseen level in that alternate world's Enterprise. So not so much stolen from Lower Decks but another in a hopefully long line of references to the Ops till we finally get a live action Dolphin Captain!
Honestly, Zero’s discussion with the Doctor felt a little weird to me precisely because the EMH _can_ touch things. He’s not corporeal, but he’s not insubstantial in the same way as Zero. He can’t eat but he can kick a bag, or play golf.
But now, with hindsight, I think that was an excellent trail of the ultimate solution - because that biological body didn’t really look like their design for a body, it looked like everyone else from that planet, so integrating EMH-type tactile sensors into Zero’s artificial body makes the most sense to me to be sure.
It’s interesting you said what you did about the corporeality storyline, because I viewed it as a transition allegory to be sure. So hearing you say you hoped they didn’t go there was interesting through that lens to be sure! But now I’m even more interested what you’ll go on to say about the other parts.
I have lately started to watch your videos just to see what others see and get a different perspective. I personally am a traditional scifi fan. I loved star trek prodigy . As a life long trekkie i think prodigy was the best show we have had in a while. That being said. I dont agree with your opinions on discovery or star wars. Star trek has always had a way of tackling social issues and not let it consume the story. In prodigy they showed that with zero. It didn’t feel like feminist fan fiction. Discovery was too hamfisted. Every episode we were reminded how advanced cultures respect pronouns. You seem to be a bigger trekkie than star wars fan. You seem to miss a lot of the lore breaking plot-holes in acolyte and concentrated on how “its a fresh non binary take…”
I'm not really sure what Gwen was planning to do. While voyager and infinity where trying to preserve the timeline she was trying to change it?
Also I'm usually not a big fan of people starting to disappear when the timeline is changed or more specifically how it's portrayed. The timeline is changed the moment the portal is opened or the time travel happens. Everything that happens after this is caused by this and predetermined. That beeing said: sins star trek is not hard sci-fi I'm trying to suspend my disbelief some more. Otherwise I won't be able to enjoy time travel episodes that are otherwise fantastic.
RE things feeling a bit forced: I think that would have been hard to avoid. Our main characters are kids, they're not even cadets yet, let alone active crew. If they weren't the protagonists of a kids' show then no responsible officer would let them go on any kind of dangerous mission… but they _are_ the protagonists of a kids' show, so they need to go on missions anyway
I think it's just one of those awkward things we just have to accept if we want there to be a show

I was late to watching it haha but I saved it for a sad day (well, ended up watching it over a period of four days) and maaaan it was good stuff.

Im not a fan of the Netflix release model of dumping all the episodes at once, as its hard to get hyped about episodes. But its WAY better than season 1 of Prodigy's release schedule of having 20 episodes be released over a year, which i honestly believe is what killed the show.
Thought I'd mention I'd very much like to watch your review on Prodigy now, but since I've only watched episode one I'll need to wait. Even if you don't have spoilers. I'm not sure how long it'll take me to watch yet since it seems its up to me to watch how much Prodigy I want. If its good I might be done season two in a week.
I was quite disappointed that Robert Beltran was still in there, and not just that, as an apparent focal point of the season judging by the first 5 episodes that I've watched so far... And frankly I'm surprised that you just kinda brush it off. I'd love to find out the reasoning behind that.

Both the Diviner and Asencia got more extreme in their beliefs due to their planet's civil war that tore their world apart. We were told in season one they were on opposite sides of the conflict. A few shots of past Asencia show she might not like how her future self turned out, but who knows how that turns out, unless you watched all the episodes already.

The sad thing is that Kurtzman is not really supporting these shows, like PROD and LDs, simply because he has very little to do with them, IMO. You compare that with his push for DISC, S31 and the upcoming Starfleet Academy, and it's like night and day. Hell, he half-heartedly supported SNW.
