Color Mixing, Glazing & Impasto Techniques using Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics

Being confident with color is no easy task. Is a color warm or cool, light or dark, muted or saturated? All of this can seem a bit confusing and overwhelming. In this virtual workshop, artist Marla Morrison will paint a fall sunset over water scene using Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic colors while sharing concepts from her own practice. We will explore how to ask ourselves the correct questions about color and help us more effectively translate what we see to the painted surface. As we paint along with Marla, she’ll demonstrate the technique of glazing and how it can create visual depth in paintings. She’ll also combine glazing with impasto techniques to show how they can contrast and partner well in the same painting. The beauty of Heavy Body color is that it can be used in both of these painting techniques quite effectively. In addition, Marla will discuss some key dos and don’ts of varnishing. This final step of the painting process can truly bring out the best in any work of art.*
