14 years of the tories destroyed the tories.
Absolutely. It's crazy to think they had an 80-seat majority under Boris and have seemingly done nothing with it. What a waste. 🤷🏻♂️
oh my god it’s actually been 14 years, jesus christ
@@ASocialistTransGirl I am afraid so. Time flies when you are living crisis to crisis.
That's only because the New Labour party are so awful that they couldn't win an election in all that time even with an awful Tory gov. It's only now that the Tories are so far gone that Labour gets in by default, not because they are going to improve anything. This is the end of the UK as we know it, a decade of New Labour with Bliar pulling the strings is the end.
I only have one thing add, i.e. f*** the Tories.
Farage will not end the Tories. It is only the Tories that can do that and it is hard to say that they have not made an enthusiastic effort to make that happen when the next election comes around.
Jail time for replacement sympathizers.
Only old and undeducated people vote for farage. I hope they are not that many
Here's what will happen. The Tories will take a pounding at the election, Labour will win a majority and Reform may perform well cutting into the Tory vote however they won't gain many seats due to the FPTP system, the same thing that happened to Ukip in 2015. The Tories will become the opposition but will be heavily weakened and there will be talk of the party dying or splitting. That won't happen, however.
Then after a decade of Labour's rule, the Tories will eventually rebound in voter opinion because voters will grow tired of Labour eventually. The same thing that happens with every two party system.
@@JD-Media I don't think this could happen. Think about the economic situation of the UK 10 years down the line. The UK would have added at least another 5 million to its population through immigration. Immigration was pretty much the single point issue the Tories were supposed to have fixed but didn't.
Housing and infrastructure will be far worse off. We will most likely be facing a far right party at that point. Reform are right but not quite far right (yet). However, we don't know what events will take place in the UK.
There could be sectarian violence between communities, a new round of terrorist attacks plus scandals within the ranks of Labour. Labours upcoming term will be last term served by the Duopoly. The Tories will not bounce back from this.
Well Farage running the Reform Party and taking votes from the Tories is going to harm the Tories a lot. They could be driven to extinction soon
Tories don’t need any help they have destroyed themselves from within
True
no. however, farage would change them and it's pretty random, in which direction. The overall system remains stuck.

What you left out was Tice giving reform a bunch of money, he's not as disposable as you might think.
Farage has his money. He can find money elsewhere if he needs to.
So someone makes an investment and the return on that investment could be higher if Farage leads the party.
The Reform "Party" (that isn't an actual party) owe Tice a lot of money, that's how Tice has as much control of it as Farage. If the Tories had a few brain cells between them their main strategy would be to create friction between Farage and Tice.

Farage speaks his mind and that is very appealing. When was the last time sunak had an interview that wasnt contrived or with spin. Not saying im a fan-still on the fence.
Farage is defending the UK, doing what is necessary - whereas people like the Indian billionaire (with a British passport) are not mentally and culturally connected to the UK, but to support their small peer group, some lobbying and for fame and self-promotion. Same some CEOs they come and go.
REFORM 2024
The thing that Sunak and Co. don't understand is, it is the Conservative party that has changed, not their voters. It is why the chant, 'a vote for reform is a vote for Labour', doesn't work. Right of centre voters view Reform UK as the real Conservative party, and the actual Conservative party as basically 'New Labour', virtually identical to the current Labour party.
Real conservative party, fake conservative party - they are all just the same grifters.
I think you got it backward. The voters have changed and shifted right, but the Tory leadership has not acknowledged the shift.
Agreed, only makes it more absurd considering that the conservatives stoked this by bringing up immigration every time things went wrong thinking it was a vote winner for them. It was literally spamming the news days after the Liz Truss debacle after it hadn’t been brought up in the mainstream for years.
It being a conservative vote winner used to be true, but then a new party came along to snatch up those voters. But the conservatives just couldn’t adapt their strategy, so here we are.
@@laurentdrozin812 OP is completely correct. Voters are not shifting right at any scale. The political goalposts have moved millions (the majority) of the country "right". They are accused of moving right but they haven't changed their views in decades. Look at the recent Irish referendum. Did the Irish move right? No. They were foistered with a ridiculous notion and rejected it the same way they would have in 1950 or 1985.
The Tories are more right wing than ever. They have lost more voters to Labour than Reform.
A segment of the electorate that is mainly composed of elderly people and people who have far less than five GCSEs at Grade C or above have moved much much further to the right after being targeted by a campaign from the far right that is mainly online and from four newspapers owned by elderly white billionaires. You could add GB News to that list, but nobody that.
It’s good to remember that Reform/Brexit massive support at the last election and Nigel made a deal with Boris and stood down Reform / Brexit party to not split the vote. Support for Reform is a win for labour due to our system.
Good. If Labour win a huge number of seats (like 80%) despite only getting 40% of the vote. That opens real questions up about our electoral system. We need proportional representation.
Glad you mentioned the SDP, as just under 50% of the original party voted to not join the Liberals in the 80s, and they are now back with over 100 candidates at the next GE, with a none aggression pact with Reform in some areas :)
So everyone already forgot about his misleading promises about Brexit and willing to give him a "second chance" to "make UK great again"?
Wtf Britain?
“Funny I’m a celeb man. Me vote.”
Which promises did he make that were misleading?
Putting the failures and missed opportunities around Brexit on him is a little strong. Victory in the referendum did not come with a parliamentary majority, instead all the Brexiteers could rely on was an at least partially skeptical and reluctant Tory party. Conservative voters in the UK may remember and punish them for their conduct.

I assume you would be one of the first to agree the complexity First Past The Post has on new parties as only two(Labour/Liberal) have ever broken through and it was 100 years ago. Remember that Reform UK, the Lib Dems and Greens all sit together in an electoral reform pressure group. I hope that if you are throwing shade at one you throw it at them all equally.

In my opinion, it all depends on whether Reform has their campaign geography right. They absolutely could poach seats from the Tories if they target the right seats. But, if their vote share is spread across the country they may end up as spoilers with their project just like their UKIP predecessors did in 2015: 13% of the public vote and only 1 MP.
High lighting the very fair voting system we have!? >3.88 million people voted UKIP and were represented by ONE MP. ~1.45 million people voted SNP and were represented by 56!! MP's. Ever feel you've been robbed?
it all about who wins in that province snp has or had way more with less votes because they won more in provinces ukip did had a lot of votes only won 1 province this is because of our current voting system works who ever has the most votes wins simple yet does not give the proper representation, Switzerland has or had a system where it properly represented and divided the political system to make sure that dominant political party's wont get to much power, either way I hate the British government and the welsh government because they are dominated by parties who don't really care and only after their own best interest
@@Hunter664yt Thank you Hunter! I'm fully aware of what you have written. You may have missed my sarcasm in the first sentence?! Zero seats! Zero seats!
UKIP took more votes from Labour than from the Tories in 2015. It's a common myth that they only split the Tory vote - not actually true at all. Presumably the same will be true of Reform.
Edit: I see this was touched on later in the video. I still think in a general election without the backdrop of Brexit influencing people's votes, Reform has the potential to take votes from Labour just as UKIP used to do. The parties have a similar target electorate after all. And this is something they will need to do if they are going to win any seats.
Reform is a much more right-wing Party than UKIP. A lot of the polling is based on their supporters. It’s very heavily conservative supporters
You said it yourself- the Brexit factor. That doesn't exist anymore and actual science from I don't know- polls- shows your claims to be nonsense in today's political environment. Thats not what he said per the quote you provided. He didnt say his goal was to harm the tories. He said his goal was to replace them. He specifically said he wont take control if its not possible to win seats. And based on first past the post that seems unlikely.
Just one point, using the 2019 G.E. as an example of why Reform is more popular with Tories voters than Labour is a little flawed, given the pact made for the election, it wans't actually representative of what many voters wanted. Lots of would be Labour rebels voted Tory in this election effectively because they were told not to vote for the Brexit party. Anyone else remember when the Tories and Brexit were neck and neck until Farage decided he wanted to play Kingmaker rathan than Parliamentarian.
Last time Farage did something similar he gave the Tories their victory at the last minute. He's basically a CU/VT.
The UK is weird. It is the only major country in the west that looks set to have the left wing party win 2024's election. Continental Europe leans right-wing, America (as much as a shit hole its politics are rn) leans right-wing, Asia leans right-wing, Africa is getting plagued by military nationalist coups. Britain will be a center-left oddity. Labour and Keir Starmer have no plan. They simply have to not do or say anything too radical/controversial and will win. Reform looks like the Party set to lead the UK into the right-wing trend.
In the UK people mainly vote tribally, the average Tory voter hasn't heard of Reform, they are that disconnected from reality.
I mean the reason for the centre-left winning here soon is because we've had a right wing government for nearly 15 years whilst the opposite was the case for many EU countries. You are right that labour don't have a plan, they've backed off of every major policy promise, once again major parties don't want to govern, only be administrators of managed decline.

The problem for the Tories is that there's a big divide between the traditional middle class pragmatic, more affluent than average, Tory voter and the white reactionary working class voter. These two sides increasingly cannot work together. However, Labour will potentially struggle with this divide too once in power when you have Lab MPs coming from whiter, more provincial towns and villages versus Labour MPs in diverse and younger cities. People can blame individual parties all they want but the truth is we are just a pretty divided country today on issues like diversity and immigration. No matter who is in power these divisions will shake politics. I'm old enough to remember how much trouble was caused in Labour over these issues post 2005.
The fact that stage has a prominent place in the UK political landscape says all you need to know about a significant proportion of the English (not British) population
The Tories destroyed the Tories. Farage only exploited on it.
A news company being sponsored by another, separate news company is odd to me. I can't tell if it's one of the more boss-level power moves I've ever seen or not.
How come a company can participate in a democratic election? Why is Reform UK not a party and governed by members (as in eligible citizens)? Isnt that a bit undemocratic?
Who's bothered it's the Reform Party policy's that British are listening too
I am actually surprised that Farage is still alive. I thought he died, when UK left the EU😅
The problem for Reform is that Farage is very unpopular. He may be the least unpopular politician in the country, but he's only very popular with a small minority. Even when he 'won' the EU elections, the headline total was about 33%, but the proportion of the electorate supporting him was nearer 11%. He will never be trusted by the really conservative part of the electorate as it's so obvious to them that he's a threat to stability. And most UK residents are essentially conservative-minded: they are essentially risk-averse and realistic. And Farage has amply demonstrated that he is willing to tilt at windmills.
How's David Blunkett got such a high approval rating 💀
The Tories doomed themselves, they kept a highly volatile voting system in place whist effectively shrinking their own voting block and growing labours
- Poor COVID response killed the old
- Keeping the housing bubble prevented home owners
- keeping feminist initiatives and cost of living crises reduced the number of parents
- keeping Immigration high (and commonwealth voting rules) increased the Muslim and ethnic minority vote
and even taking in the demographic shot in the foot, they pretty much betrayed their own voters.
- Lying about decreasing immigration cost them the poor somewhere
- Poor business environment Brexit caused cost them professionals
- Being weak on culture war issues cost them the culture warriors / traditional right.
Tories don't need reform to lose, they only need the Tories to lose the election.
Neat
PR is required to change anything
Im just curious what will happen in Scotland, because SNP is as destroyed
Farage reminds me of a character from a comic i read as a kid, his name was Tortuous Convolvulus and was from Asterix and the Roman Agent. its was explained that a green eyed monster followed him where ever he went, and he was used to spread mistrust and anger through the little Gaul village.
You stick to trusting the tories then mate, I can’t think of anything that made them untrustworthy and infuriating can you? 🤡
The tories distroyed themselves with infighting, dishonesty, ineptitude, brexit and lying.
Unfortunately they have damaged our nation for 40yrs with their shenanigans but any help to their demise is always welcome.
