Eddie Van Halen only met Pantera counterpart "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott a few weeks before he was shot dead on stage with his band Damageplan on Dec. 8, 2004. But Van Halen’s touching personal tribute, in burying one of his famed guitars with Abbott, demonstrates how close a relationship they’d already built - and suggests how much closer they would have become. On the day of the funeral, Dec. 14, Van Halen arrived with an instrument - but it wasn’t a new one, it was the original one featured on the back of Van Halen II, dating from 1979. He told Haney, “An original should have an original.” But he couldn’t bring himself to view Dime’s body, explaining, “I can’t go in there… I want to remember him like he was that night I met him.” So Haney delivered the gift. Holding up the guitar, complete with rusted strings, Haney told her late lover, “See, baby? You didn’t get a replica - you got the one!” She kissed his forehead as she placed it in his casket. ROCK IN PEACE DIMEBAG & EVH.

Pantera is one of those all time great metal bands. Their influence was massive in the metal world. Dimebag will remain an influential metal guitarist for many years to come, even after his passing, his influence is still felt. I feel like Lamb of God was carrying the great southern metal band torch for a while after Pantera disbanded. You have to see Pantera's live performance of Domination. It's in black and white and should be easy to find. And I will always remember Beavis and Butt-Head reacting to Pantera's "This Love" video. It was a big insight to Beavis's mental state, and it will be hilarious to me forever. It was Beavis and Butt-Head that introduced me to Pantera. And if anyone has played the original Doom and Doom II in the 90s, many songs from the soundtrack were "borrowed" from Pantera. There's some useless information for the day. Lol. Loved your reaction, you got these guys immediately. Cheers.
@@ryansalmons5279 that's pretty cool, I didn't know that. And I thought I knew everything about Dimebag. But it doesn't surprise me, dimebag was a huge influence to everyone around him. Dear Aileen, Metal went through a period of stagnation in the early 1990s, there were no major releases and everything was very repetitive, until two phenomena (in my opinion) emerged, Pantera and Machine Head. I live in São Paulo, Brazil and here Pantera played two sold out shows. I was there, and it was even difficult to breathe because there were three thousand people squeezing and shaking non-stop. It was crazy, but at the same time unforgettable because it was Pantera's greatest moment! It's really cool to see you listening to Pantera and other iconic bands in history, like Iron Maiden. There are a multitude of bands I would love to see you reviewing. I really like your videos. Greetings from Brazil!

They're from right down the road from me. One of my good friends went to rehab with the bassist at Valley Hope rehab center. RIP Dimebag, you were one of the greats!
The initial riff of this song was recorded backstage during the Cowboys from Hell tour. Dime was just playing around with some shuffle blues riffs when everyone around was like "holy shit, what the fuck was that." Walk became the first song and the instrumental sound of Pantera. Groove metal was born.
Welcome to the world of Pantera Aileen. They were a big part of my youth. I was lucky enough to grop up with music was awesome. I was in grade 10 when Cowboys from Hell was released. They quickly became one of my favourites.

When I was a kid I didn't have a drum set. I drummed on my bed & stomped on the floor I would pretend I was Vinnie Paul drumming along side Dime. Pantera is legendary
Oh my. You’ve found the motherload. Floods, Cemetery Gates, A New Level, 5 Minutes Alone, War Nerve, 10’s and so many more. Dimebag is one of the best Floyd Rose Guitar players ever. The Dive Bombs, pinch harmonics and whammy pedal screeches make for some of the greatest guitar work ever. They have a whole era prior to the Cowboys from Hell record. They weren’t the whiskey drinking, rough and tumble Texas guttural metal band that we fell in love with in the 90’s. Pantera was Glam Metal. With leather pants and hairspray. But they evolved into a metal juggernaut. Dimebag was viciously slaughtered like John Lennon. Long live the Cowboys from Hell!
It is interesting that Pantera started as glam-metal band, they released 3 studio albums in that genre, but searching for more heavier sound they hired Phil Anselmo as vocalist for their 4th studio album, 'Power metal'... The rest is history. Anselmo is 4-octave beast, if you want more melodic stuff there's 'Cemetery gates' or 'This love', but if you want more in line of 'Walk', there's 'Cowboys from hell' or 'Drag The Waters'...

That riff is hypnotizing live. I was scared to go up front my first time seeing them live until Pantera came on stage blasting Walk. It pulled me up to the stage and I never left. Now nearly 30 years later my 5 year old asks me to loop Walk every time we’re heading to a T-ball game to pump him up.
Ive seen, and partied with Pantera a few times. Dime signed my arm and I went and had it tattoo'd on. Dime and Vinnie were the real deal. They treated everyone with respect and love. Raise a Blacktooth Grin to the Abbott Bros! RIP
I always feel the urge to point this out to modern vocal experts: for it's time, a big part of rock music was openly self destructive. It was rebellion. Your generation was born with very few social rules so you tend to seek boundaries. Rock's generation was born with boundaries and sought freedom even at immediate self cost. Concern of the vocal chords was maybe number 328 on a list way below heroine and overall a desire to die young after fun years compared to many boring years in an office. It likely makes zero sense anymore but if you want to understand why these bands sang the way they did, lived the way they did and ultimately created these songs the way they did, it was from rebellion, not self-preservation.
Wow - you never having heard Pantera before makes me feel so effin’ old! They were like one of the biggest bands around in the late 90s early 2000’s. Funny, sad and happy all at once! R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie - the Abbott brothers are missed!!
Check out Ne Obliviscaris and their song Forget Not. These guys are true talent. I won't spoil the surprise by saying too much. But they are on a different level . Their catalogue is flawless . Their composing skills along with their production creates masterpieces in the studio. And they are able to replicate it live. I truly hope you at least listen to them and feel the magic . They are as much of a blessing to listen to as Dimash is. The melodies and basslines are phenomenal. Have a blessed day.
There's so many great songs by Pantera! Cemetery gates, cowboys from hell, this love, 5 minutes alone, domination, power concrete sledge, psycho holiday, etc. So many great songs! Please do more!

I was there in Chicago when this was filmed. Absolutely insane! The PA fell on the crowd. All the guys jumped off stage and help set the PA back up. White Zombie and Trouble were on the bill too. If you've never seen them live you have missed out.
5:17 OMFG, you have a great ear for music...you noticed the rythum section underneath the solo laying the foundation for Dime to solo? OMG, you are marriage material! lol Seriously, very good ear to be able to separate all sections out...because they each play a vital role and in Pantera being a 3 piece (Guitar, Bass, Drums) its really important that those foundations are solid and Rex and Vinnie were super tight, so once Dime solo'd the vibe didn't drop off but carried on. \m/
The singer is also in a supergroup called "Down" that I would recommend you check out as well. The song "Temptations Wings" is a great place to start. Welcome to the world of Pantera!

RIP
Moreeeee of the Pantera reactions please 🙏 its literally a black hole of magic, literally Dimes skills can't be matched
"Walk on home, boy." is one the best suggestions in the history of metal.
The song that plays when you enter a room like a boss!🤘🤘🤘🤘
I just saw Pantera last night it was amazing
There is plenty more Pantera songs to blow your mind. Check out the live version of “Domination” live in Russia.
That breakdown at the end still gives me chill bumps and I've been listening to this forever.
Avenge seven fold woûld not exist without Pantera. You nailed it!
Wow - you never having heard Pantera before makes me feel so effin’ old! They were like one of the biggest bands around in the late 90s early 2000’s. Funny, sad and happy all at once! R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie - the Abbott brothers are missed!!
I fought in an MMA event for charity a few months back, I chose this as my ring walk song. Best decision I ever made, ever.
They are def some of the most talented people to have ever existed.
It's sad that Dan Presland has left the band now. Such a huge loss!
There's so many great songs by Pantera! Cemetery gates, cowboys from hell, this love, 5 minutes alone, domination, power concrete sledge, psycho holiday, etc. So many great songs! Please do more!
Seeing someone discovering Dimebag shredding never gets old! Check out the long outro to the song Floods it has one of Dimebags greatest solos and the long outro is best way to experience it
Pantera is who brought metal back in the 90s and 2000s.
So stoked to see you enjoy this so much. Does my old ass heart good! You rock! Keep it up!
tht riff at the end is my fucking everything omfg i remember being slightly buzzed one night and playing this song and omg i got in sync haha love yur vibe bro i subbed 😊😊
Well welcome to the awesomeness of Pantera. R.I.P. to Dimebag Darryl. If you'd like to go further down the hole (pause) of Pantera check out these songs by them: Cowboys from Hell, Cemetery Gates, 5 Minutes Alone, & Unbroken
I was there in Chicago when this was filmed. Absolutely insane! The PA fell on the crowd. All the guys jumped off stage and help set the PA back up. White Zombie and Trouble were on the bill too. If you've never seen them live you have missed out.
Seen them back in the 90s. This goes hard live 🤘
5:17 OMFG, you have a great ear for music...you noticed the rythum section underneath the solo laying the foundation for Dime to solo? OMG, you are marriage material! lol
Seriously, very good ear to be able to separate all sections out...because they each play a vital role and in Pantera being a 3 piece (Guitar, Bass, Drums) its really important that those foundations are solid and Rex and Vinnie were super tight, so once Dime solo'd the vibe didn't drop off but carried on. \m/
Such a joy watching you react to this great metal track.. Especially that end riff, phew.. Your journey begins 👍🏻 👍🏻
The singer is also in a supergroup called "Down" that I would recommend you check out as well. The song "Temptations Wings" is a great place to start. Welcome to the world of Pantera!
