Rescue of Minnesota Eaglet

- May 4, 2012: This morning we noticed a young eaglet having problems in the nest. He seemed to be trapped and was struggling to get up. His worried parents were unable to help him. USFWS granted a permit for a rescue, and an experienced tree climber climbed 70 feet to the nest and freed the eaglet. A quick body check resulted in the eaglet being removed from the nest, to be examined at a wildlife hospital.
Sadly, on April 30, the other eaglet fell from the nest and died.

I remember this like it was yesterday. The suspense was almost more than we could all bear. I remember hearing the boom truck arrive and voices on the ground. After a bit, that red & silver cable snaked around the trunk of the tree and then there was our angel, Jim. He was so tender and careful with Harmon. (I said that guy probably got a million marriage proposals after this 😁) We all held our breath for two days awaiting his return to the nest. Many fish and hissy fits later, Harmon thrived and fledged as nature intended. ❤️❤️❤️
This was the eaglet named Harmon. He was from the MNBound nest. There are videos of his successful treatment and return to the nest 2 days later, and his reunion with his parents. This was a success story. He fledged.
Where are the videos?
@@theresep7386 My wife's name is Therese, too … it's not that common! ;)
Great to hear that.
@@gheffz it is in France. LOL
@@frenchpoodle7665 Ah, okay... we are Australian ... so, Therese spelling not so common.
I watched this unfold "live" and it brought tears to my eyes. Watched it again today in 2020 and it still had the same affect. Such a sweet ending to this story.
Watched it today and it meant a lot, as you can probably imagine. Heck of a year we've all had
We need more people like you in the world. Thankyou
Yes we do these guys are angels they really are you are so correct we do need more people like these guys n there organizations look how they helped this little gift from above that was given to its parents and for the world to see just how important these birds are all birds to be are just so beautiful and adorable I’ve loved birds since I can remember as a little kid I’m just learning about birds of prey this is my first season watching the whole process from picking of the mates “and the eagles that already have there life long mates” start nestorations, mating, laying the egglets to them hatching it’s such a breathtaking experience it truly is I pray to god earthing is ok with this beautiful gift from god 😇❤️💯🇺🇸‼️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Right Sir, We Agree With You,
Love from Kuwait.
This shows how truly strong eagle nests are. It holds the weight of a full grown man on it.
Probably two grown men. Largest eagle nest was discovered a bald in Florida. It supposed to be 9 feet in diameter and 20 feet deep. I love all eagles but my favorite eagle is the Bald Eagle. It's our national bird and how proud we are!!!!
I was thinking the same* In school I read they literally build it out of thick sticks and twigs! & they last yrs
two grown men
Oh dear 🤦🏻♀️my heart is just melting I just can’t watch no more I need to forward this video dear god look at the parents they look so concerned 😦 trying to give the baby some tactile stimulation along with trying to feed it 😥
No animal parents deserve to go through losing all of there off spring if we can help it. So thanks, I hope you fixed the bed of that nest for future little ones. Keep up the good work.
This is a great story with what happened to Harmon. Two days after rescue when they put him back on the nest and parents came back. Such a good ending.
You do beautiful job!!
Thank you!!
God bless you and your's family!!❤
WOW, that truly give perspective on how BIG those birds are! So happy eaglet survived and parents took it back. TY for sharing this and your good deed.
This poor baby was traumatized I didn’t no the back story about the sibling being so mean to him I’m just happy I didn’t witness it so the sibling fell out of the nest 😦he looks like he’s going into shock he’s breathing was Tachypnea I really doubt this Little gift from above wouldn’t of lasted through the night “then again I’m in no way an expert I’m still learning about these birds” I’m just so happy and proud of these volunteers that took their time to go up to the nest do a check on it I believe they made the right decision, taking him to rehabilitate then placing it back with its parents this is such a beautiful site these guys are Angels they really are I wish there were people in this world like these fellas god bless them Thank you so much ❤️❤️😇💯🇺🇸‼️it seems like the wounds on the baby eaglet were most likely caused by that sibling they said he may have gotten those wounds from moving around being stuck n he got pocked by the branches n sticks “I don’t believe that I think those sounds cane from that sibling going after his back side poor fella had maggots all over it’s Himy just all over it 🙈
It's called survival of the fittest.
You are an Angel. Thank you for helping him/her ??..So kind .....
i think it is great that the guy feels comfortable enough to sit on the nest trusting in the workbirdship of the eagles. great job. so sad the other baby died afterwards.
Poor parents😞 Thank you for saving that baby👍
Just like Adam (Eve) we were put on this earth to take care of all living things. God Bless
99.9 % of all living creatures that existed on earth are extinct, I guess Adam and Eve screwed up by getting kicked out of the garden
為何人類如此自傲,我們只是萬物之一而已,與其他生物共享地球。
@@EnCihCat
Why are humans so proud, we are just one of everything, sharing the earth with other creatures.
We are the top of the food chain. We should help other creatures rather then kill each other - 我们是食物链的顶端。我们应该帮助其他生物而不是互相杀死
yeah, i pity u because of these thoughts, i really do. Humans are monsters and they always kill every living things instead of helping it.
🤦♂️ seriously hope you are not that delusional to believe that Adam and Eve fairy tale.
Okay, I went ahead and watched. So glad there were people to intervene. I wish the let well in rehab, and hope the little one has a full recovery, as well as the parents now losing both from their nest.
Bravo ce faceti CACI AI salvați eu an fiecare zi urmaresc aceste păsări si AMI PLACE sănătoși sa fiti cu toti
So, did the tree climber leave any kind of written note for the eagle parents letting them know that he took their kid but will return? It would have been nice.
Bwaaaaaaaa ha ha
😀
Мир держится на таких людях!
Thanks for trying to save the baby
It was sad to see him laying like that. I’m glad he was saved.

Thank for the info bev1946. So glad harmon made it. Sometimes it is necessary for humans to take action and im glad for these humans!
I remember Harlan! His little foot was stuck for several days.
Thanks for sharing this with us Minnesota Bound and Beautiful Eagles! Fascinating and beautiful. We live in Otter Lake Quebec, Hawk country.
I never knew that there were Eagles living, nesting,, having and raising kids, flying around in Minnesota ? I incorrectly assumed that they were only up in northern Minnesota and/or for sure Canada....but I found out how wrong that I was when my daughter and I went for walks on warm summer days around Lake Earl in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and on one of our walks we came across a park bench, and we sat down to take a break and overlooking Lake Earl and looking toward the far side of the lake we saw these huge birds of some sort flying high up in the air above the far end of the lake. We shared this information with Pat, a worker at Lake Earl, and she thankfully informed my daughter and myself, " Oh, those big birds that you saw flying above Lake Earl are Bald Eagles, that nest and live around Lake Earl....WOW !
his feet were ok- he is Harmon, and you can see many videos of him here. This happened in 2012,where thousands of people watched the Minnesota Eagle bound parents have their first hatch with Kirby, who fell out of the nest, and Harmon, who was taken from the nest for a few days, then returned to the nest, where his parents raised him the rest of the way until he fledged and flew off. You can see the 2013 eaglets, Harmony and Peace, at the same link listed above.
Brave men, and strong nest!

Being good people, blesses my heart
Ooh God. Such a Good job.
Allah Bless You,
We love You Sir From Kuwait.
Thank you ,!!! you guys....are hero.
Thank you for expanding our world
I first saw Harmon's Rescue and more videos 2 years ago. Saw the fledge too. I was and still am in love with Harmon. He would be 7 years old now. If he came home to build his own nest would he be recognized? Any markings? I would love to see him again. I thank the rescuers for helping him. He is special. As for his sister she was evil to him. Most eaglets I have seen on cam become close. There was plenty of of food. Good parents usually stop aggressive behavior and make sure both babies are fed even feeding in tandem where both are fed at the same time.
Lois. M Epstein where’s is it’s sibling at ? I didn’t see her in the nest ?
Tanya Ryland Another one died, she always bullied him, that's why he was so sick. One day,she asked an end.Just read the second conment.
Oh dear I did t no that so she was a bully, no wonder he would jump when they touched him with there trying to feed him he’s like in shock
What a cool rescue!! thanks for the video and a very big thanks to the rescuer!!! I hope all is well with the eglet and he will get to go home soon..
Thats a strong ass nest hes sitting in it!!!
onlyslightlyinsane1 dude i was thinking the same thing, and the size of the eagles previously there compared to a human sitting on it, the eagles almost his size XD
Not really Eagles actually don't weigh much at all
Yeah how strong is this nest to carry a man and give credit to the rescuer
They need to be strong enough to resist high winds.
God bless this guy

SO amazing to see animals in their own home. Shut down all zoos!!
Agreed wholeheartedly
## Спасибо Вам большое за Ваше МИЛОСЕРДИЕ...13.8.19 г.
Looks like he is more than just a tree climber💖come back to the nest sweetheart😢
You guys are great! Thank you for caring for the baby💖
Thank you!!
Great news about Harmon! Thanks
Wow nice 👍 you did a great job thank you 🙏
Что дальше было с этим птенцом?
My first reaction "damn the nest can hold him!" Lol, but shit i woulda been scared the parents were gonna come bak, they woulda tore him up! But poor baby
This happens more often than you think. Birds will collect discarded string and human hair when building their nest and the chicks or even one of the parents will get one or both of their claws wrapped and stuck in it.
Thank you for it
he was taken away and nursed to health for a few days, then brought back, and the parents continued to feed him until he fledged as though nothing had happened- all this went on if front of the web cam, so people were watching and cheering Harmon on. You can see the new eaglets at the same link listed above in the description.
What a coincidence! This popped up on my utube home page. And i was thinking of this famous Harmon rescue just a few days ago 😀👍❗.. so memorable 🤗🦅😚
Как птенчик вылечели его ?
Thanks for your sharing this video
A couple of times it looked like the guy was placing the eaglet deliberately to vet edge of the nest?? I wonder why?? I also noticed the nest to be superbly strong if it can hold a mans weight👍 good job for saving the lil guy👋
Christiane Montazer He was trying to see if he could stand up on his own. Because he kept falling they decided to take him in for treatment. He was returned to the next a few days later I believe, but he grew up and fledged.
How was your day honey?. "Oh good, I climbed 200 feet up a tree and saved a baby eagle".
So rewarding!
Danke fürs Speichern
We are not supposed to step into the role of Nature, only the strong survive. But I believe Nature does appreciate what humans do for her creatures. Glad to know one of the eaglets survived.
Good job thank for mede that gadbleessyou thankyou they're the best
House calls.
Good man!
Merci❤
Very sturdy nest!
Что с птенцом?
Can you put a catch net around the tree not far from the nest to save any falling chicks?
А что случилось с малышом?
Thats quite a rescue, and a situation that was worse than initially looked. I hope the Eaglet recovers and can be returned to the nest soon. Sad enough that they've lost one, it'd be devastating to lose both.
Praying for the birdies
Good work

oh my... poor baby, i'm glad they saved it...
I’m glad he was saved )
Great, great job. You , absolutely HAD to intervene. I can't stand the..." well , you gotta let nature take it's course" crap !
Let nature take its course....well animals die All the time at every minute for unfair reasons welcome to earth.
Tough to watch. Was the baby rehabilitated and returned to the nest ? How long can one be away and then returned and still accepted by the parents ? Are the parents put off by the presence / smell of the humans ?
Never knew how big and strong eagle nests were 😲
Что с птенцом,заболел?

А продолжение где?
Parabéns 🙏❤
Wonder if the parents are around looking what you doing?
Привет...его выходили ?
Does anyone know what was wrong with this little guy?
was it alright in the end did it live.
Why did the parents keep him out!?
Does this tell you how big?
so what happend to the baby later?
Belo trabalho 👍
I was thinking the guy was going to let him fall out of the nest. He kept putting him yo close to the edge. Scary
Как сейчас , птица жива ?Ей помогли, удачи спасателям и здоровья
holy shit, he can sleep in that nest aswell
What was the outcome for this eaglet?...I just read his outcome. Thanks
Wonder where it is now
How do we go abput getting involved in something like this. Im from michigan, but honestly this has opened my eyes to nature a lot more. Id like to set something like this up here, for the children to see and parents. This is beyond neat stuff. Any help with a nudge in the right direction is appreciated. Should I go to one of our state parks and talk to the wildlife officers there? I think im going to do that sometime next week.
hi hello john
just read this ~ hope you were able to find a way to help & get involved ~ 2 other good eagle cams i watch are ' SWFL eagle cam ' & ' NEFL eagle cam ' [ SWFL = south west florida & NEFL = north east florida ] ~ the one chick eaglet in the NE nest seems to be about 1 month old ~ the same as this little eaglet ~
there are 2 eaglets [ E17 & E18 ] in the SW nest & they were born jan 23 ~ one week after hatching their eyes got infected & one couldnt see to eat so the local wild life clinic CROW [ Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife ] retrieved the 2 babys ~ they were a week at the clinic then returned to their nest & mom [ harriet ] & dad [ M15 ] wondered where the kids went & then wondered how they returned ~ very good videos of the whole adventure ~
if you are interested in checking these & other bird nests go to the youtube channel called Lady Hawk ~ she also has a baby albatross chick being watched in new zealand ~ click on her Playlists & you will see that she is also covering nests of osprey / condors / peregrine falcons / owls / kestrels / hawk / albatross
another interesting siteis the Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah ~ Martin Tyner takes one thru getting or recieving injured raptors ~ he officially does falconry & has a blindish peregrine falcon named Helen , a hawk named Belle & a beautiful golden eagle named Scout ~ so he does the storys on the different raptor birds being rehabilitated plus he has videos of taking Scout or Belle to lectures or out doing falconry ~ tres interesting
What was wrong with the eaglet?
Big Bear let Cookie(one of two eaglets born to Jackie & Shadow), freeze to death...why didn't they step in...they took both Cookie and Simba out of the nest to tag them, and to make sure they were thriving, which was an interference with nature, taken into a climate controlled environment, observed, then put back into a very cold environment, but did not care enough to save Cookie when the eaglet needed help....???
worse is that they banded the eaglets between 2 snow storms knowing Cookie had a tough time recovering after the 1st one. they knew a new storm was following the next day but they still did it ! not only did they leave cookie on nest after banding but they also add stress to both eaglets. I consider IWS as being responsible of cookie death 😢
Della Lyn and Pascale, I totally agree 100%!
@@Rectifiable all three of you can flip a bar stool over and sit on it. Lames who haven't lived a day in the real world. I'll let you know something there is hurt and suffering everywhere and you want to bitch about damn birds.
@@zacharyryanmifflin3924 very smart answer. I’ve seen many eaglets passing away from cold, siblicide, rodenticide poisoning, starvation, fall, west Nile virus, electrocution while they fly, killing from GHO predation. From the moment you put cams to see wildlife you need to act if something is going wrong. My opinion.
