I swear, I agree with the take that Minecraft Marketplace is bad, I feel like half of the Java community really thinks that Bedrock doesn't have it's own dedicated 'modding' community aswell. Unless you're trying to get some exclusives stuff that comes from a well-known developer or just to support a dev you like, there's ALWAYS a better alternative to it that's free. Trust me, nobody actually buys the Skibidi Toilet skin. It's free and you can equip it, nobody wants to download a ripoff Skibidi Toilet map and mods from the marketplace when there's more passionate creators having like 50+ mobs all about that series.

Wouldn't a Java marketplace just result in Microsoft removing free mod support from competitors like they did with Bedrock to maximize profits? On top of this, having Microsoft in charge of reviewing community made mods would never work. There either would be all the slop coming through like on Bedrock or they limit creative mod development entirely. Say goodbye to your favorite horror mods, weapon mods, or Cobblemon passion project if Microsoft is approving every mod.

thanks for the info. i've looked into it more, and it seems like bedrock is still very closed off but not QUITE as closed off as i thought. - banning reverse engineered mods is still not great - those sites don't work on consoles, but tbf there's not much you can do about that - a lot of map creators still do prefer java, and point stands on how they were trying to convert creators to bedrock overall my point stands but i might choose to word it less harshly if i could go back and change it

That's why even though it's possible to pirate server plugins, many servers are likely to get them legally instead of risking an actual lawsuit. They're more comparable to things like windows or office. Both of those are relatively easy to pirate, but most companies are probably still unwilling to risk pirating them.

And I'm devastated to hear creative projects are now gate kept. Most of the recent additions to the game wouldn't have happened without the creative influence of modders, map makers, etc. Hell, they even named a mob after Vechs! Hermitcraft just announced their new game is free on Java, but in marketplace for bedrock. Bill Gates buys all the farmland and I can't afford to craft bread! Eat the rich.

marketplace creator here!! your solution sounds great but yes, is very idealistic. a big problem w/ the current marketplace is the AMOUNT of content that gets published. youre right when you discussed the heaps of low quality items. their review system takes MONTHS to get through because theres just so much content. that's probably a reason why there isn't a java marketplace as well- they just dont dedicate enough staff/time into review and that would double the already-long wait times- never mind taking the time to review and approve non marketplace mods! that's why they've cracked down more recently on who can actually publish, and force creators to partner with 3rd parties rather than get approved as a direct creator themselves (so the knowledgable 3rd parties can do the review work for them before any content gets submitted to Microsoft for the final approval). all this is from a skin creator's perspective btw :)

So Bedrock is the solution to keeping the two visions of the game in tact and allowing creators to “flourish”. Bedrock gets crossplay, incentives for creators, and the bad marketing practises. Then Java keeps it’s community, it’s free modding space and essentially eyes off it to allow this smaller and more tightly- knit community. In an ideal world mod and map creators would have more ways to profit from there creation, but would could also get a much worse alternative.

Pretty sure somewhere it states that if you upload it, it's ASSUMED that you got permission, so they can avoid any legal trouble or checking. 5:24 roblox takes %30 cut, just like other companies it takes less but just like minecraft it provides a game engine, handles distribution and as a bonus it has built-in monetization and it pays hosting fees instead of you and charges you nothing unless you make money.
Paid Mods are a thing that most people despise. Look at Bethesda's Creation Club for example, and the whole fiasco with Steam cancelling paid mods. Plus, Java lets people mod... FOR FREE, so why should I pay for them for the Bedrock version? Also a large chunk of the Marketplace assets are STOLEN because people want to make a quick buck with little to no way of properly moderating it. Corporations do not care about the bad actors when they get a cut of that money. The best solution is removing the Marketplace altogether.

I dont know where he got the "roblox takes 75%" from. I work with roblox game developement and they usually take 30% with exeption of selling external gamepasses in a game, in which case the 30% cut goes to the creator of the experience.
The Java marketplace could just be a community mod downloading place like Curseforge or Modrinth and some things could be paid but 30% of the revenue could go to Mojang.

Nice vid so i personally think the best would be just allowing mods to be payed and maybe an editional official marked place website or somting where minecraft gets a cut and handels everything but also allow external sails because the argument "someone can just copy it" doesn't make that much sense because if you make an opensource free mod you can set a license that doesn't allow for Comercial forks etc but overall nice vid
as someone who bought about $20 worth of spigot plugins, Its worth it to spend money to get better versions of plugin types that already exist, like a shop plugin.

So Bedrock is the solution to keeping the two visions of the game in tact and allowing creators to “flourish”. Bedrock gets crossplay, incentives for creators, and the bad marketing practises. Then Java keeps it’s community, it’s free modding space and essentially eyes off it to allow this smaller and more tightly- knit community. In an ideal world mod and map creators would have more ways to profit from there creation, but would could also get a much worse alternative.

13:46 I think the problem with the Bedrock Marketplace is that Microsoft doesn't actually check what people upload if it's copyrighted. Pretty sure somewhere it states that if you upload it, it's ASSUMED that you got permission, so they can avoid any legal trouble or checking. Plus many people or copyright owners don't care enough to deal with it.
They should just do what Bethesda did. Just have officially endorsed paid mods, and still allow people to make and download free third party mods.

i think the minecraft marketplace should be like the steam workshop. witch lets anyone upload any mod of there favorite game or free and let others get it for free. im not sure how creators would make money. but i like the idea at 13:15

5:24 roblox takes %30 cut, just like other companies it takes less but just like minecraft it provides a game engine, handles distribution and as a bonus it has built-in monetization and it pays hosting fees instead of you and charges you nothing unless you make money.
oh and roblox is free to play unlike minecraft

Paid Mods are a thing that most people despise. Look at Bethesda's Creation Club for example, and the whole fiasco with Steam cancelling paid mods. Plus, Java lets people mod... FOR FREE, so why should I pay for them for the Bedrock version? Also a large chunk of the Marketplace assets are STOLEN because people want to make a quick buck with little to no way of properly moderating it. Corporations do not care about the bad actors when they get a cut of that money.
The best solution is removing the Marketplace altogether.

I dont know where he got the "roblox takes 75%" from. I work with roblox game developement and they usually take 30% with exeption of selling external gamepasses in a game, in which case the 30% cut goes to the creator of the experience.
At least the folks in the piracy scene cracked the drm on the marketplace effectively ruining their profits.
