Little fun fact: Chapters and Spitting Lies were at the bottom compared to the other eight songs from Primrose Path. I never once looked up the lyrics to Chapters though, until May of this year when CJ and Rhys both announced their departure from the band. The lyrics: "Release yourself, it's for your health." "You door was closed, I opened mine..." THAT was clear that CJ had so many problems outside of writing and singing for Dream State, and now looking back at their music, she always sung about finding positivity in life. A part of me is with her, as this band helped me through so much shit in 2018 and 2019. My life goes on, and I'm doing everything that I can to be happy, but it has definitely been so much tougher with CJ not being the frontwoman for what was my favorite band.
I just got sober 3 months ago and this band is really helping me, at the gym, with my mindset, etc. I wonder if CJ has issues with addiction, with some of the lyrics and titles (Recovery EP and such). If so, I hope she gets better soon and to anyone reading this, you CAN stop!

I think it's about failed relationships, about feelings and emotions of a person who thinks he failed them, when feelings had only begin to become mutual. But he also admit that there is fault of his crush either, like: "We open the floodgates and drown in our words" - these words are about how we speek to many unwanted and wrong words sometimes instead of the ones about our value to each other. "Undisciplined and infectious, we lose control and it wrecks us" - it's about our inability to built and maintain healthy relationships. "Can I forgive myself for not choosing a better time?" - also the person thinks that maybe he had reveal his feelings too early and this became the main reason of parting. Well, no matter how precise my vision is, those lyrics were born entirely by feelings and emotions and are much more understandible if you happen to feel the same, rather if you try to explain it by reason

And that what I meant by "those lyrics were born entirely by feelings" - you won't be able to understand and feel this song wholy if you hadn't experienced the same things, IMHO... You have your own story, but I think I can understand what you feel now, at least partially. I know it hurts, but it makes you alive, maybe even more alive than in most of your life when everything was fine. To bleed is to feel, to feel is to live... P.S. Actually the lines from "I know you won't be the first" to "Benevolent mother, your sister is here" remained unclear for me. Maybe you'll want kindly to explain your interpretation of it? English isn't my native language, you know :)

Actually this band after only debut album and all ep's made top 5 on my list favourite bands of all time and I don't think it would be ever change. I listen to rock music for about 14-15 years and can't find better female fronted band plus they have very talented male singer/guitarist, which is proven especially in that song "Chapters". We need all to spread a word about Dream State on whole world
I'm sorry buy (unpopular opinion incoming) this is definitely the only bad track. CJ's voice makes Dream State. If he wants to do backing vocals, fine. But give him his own song? No. Sorry. CJ makes the band.
Jamie Curley I definitely have to disagree with you. Rhys has a beautiful singing voice and showing that the band can do their renowned style of music as well as duet styled music like this shows that they're not locked to one genre. Flexibility can make good bands even better. Saying that CJ makes the band is honestly a bit disrespectful to the other members of Dream State.
@@VIISkies Maybe saying she makes the band was wrong. All the musicians in the band are awesome & I love their sound. But CJ's is very unique & it's what 1st caught my attention when I heard them years ago. If I heard Rhys's voice 1st, I wouldn't of been half as interested in the band.
