Crystal, I have been watching tutorials for several months. Lately, I've been trying to learn how to paint skies. I have been quite discouraged because all videos that I've come across have been quite complex and all my clouds have been big blurry blobs. Like others have mentioned, they discovered you thanks to the algorithms. Well, so have I. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to you. I've never left comments before but I really want you to know that your explanations and tips are very appreciated. I have been painting in oils for several years but only been painting in water colour (as a hobby) for much less time. I have never thought of mixing colours on the paper!!! I had assumed (because I've only seen people mix in the tray) it "wasn't done or allowed"! You are a game changer for me!!! Thank you! I am absolutely changing my approach to colours!
Oh my goodness! I am so happy for you and I am so grateful for your kind words. We all need to stick together as there are so many different approaches to watercolour painting, we can use all the help we can get. Just subscribe to the channel because I have a whole series of beginner, watercolour videos, coming out, and they will be perfect for you!❤
I watched another video earlier where the artist said to be mindful of what you are wetting before you wet the paper and why you are doing for what effect you are wanting. This is what you hit on in your video as well. I can’t wait to try all of your tips and tricks. ❤
This is one of the best tutorials I have ever watched and probably the very best on skies and clouds that I’ve seen. There are definitely some excellent tutorials available…..but you have explained everything in such a clear and understandable way which helps us to understand so much more….I.e..the ‘Whys’ and the ‘Hows’ . I noticed one of the previous comments from a few months ago also mentioned the RUclips algorithms….and I agree that I would not have found you had it not been for that. Thank you so much for this absolutely brilliant and excellent video tutorial. 🥳🤗
Oh my goodness what a generous complement! Thank you so much. I really value comments like this and appreciate every subscriber and every share that I get. It helps me to continue creating free content like this for you. 😊
I've been trying to paint cirrus clouds and then found you tutorial. I followed your method (the last section of your tutorial) and it worked brilliantly. Thank you
Beautiful clouds rendered well and clear narrative which is very important for any demo. Loved the visuals of cloud illustrations to explain the types of clouds. Personally I would prefer using cooler colours to make the grey in the stormy clouds. Fantastic demo 👍🏻
Yay for RUclips algorithms! Pulled you out for me to enjoy. Many thanks for this clear and very different approach to skies. Love your method and colour choices. I have often avoided landscapes as “ don’t muck with it” is often part of the learning and I really love to muck with things and love details so your way is speaking to me, yet it still has a beautiful not mucked with result. Can’t wait to try this. Love the science way of explaining the light and refraction and perspective too. My inner nerd is happy.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment so thoughtfully. I feel and hear your inner nerd big time! All the best to you on your watercolour journey and hopefully you can subscribe for more!
hello from Mexico! your video is amazing and I have learnt more about perspective and blending than any other video or suggestions from my teachers. I will be applying these tecnifiques on my future paintings until master this. This video is really helpful, thank you so much for bringing to the world such a masterpiece of video.
So I have tried the kleenex method before but I had used a paper towel. Even though the paper towel did give it a cloud like look, I found myself having to rework allot of the cloud formation. I’m going to try it with the kleenex method. I think that this will give the clouds more of the look I’m going for. Thank you for the tips and tricks. ❤
Crystal, the cloud images you created are so very beautiful! And, your narrative of the hows and whys make me feel so comfortable in trying your techniques. Wonderful video! Thank you for your generosity in posting these helpful videos. I look forward to watching more of your videos. ❤️😔😔
This is just the sweetest message! I’m so glad that you found this video helpful. Communication is so important and instructional art videos. And the fact that you felt comfortable and confident to perhaps give this a try means I’ve done my job! Thank you for taking the time to comment and I wish you much success :)
Thank you so much for this lesson--it has helped me more than any other in learning how to paint clouds. And thank you for showing it in real time and not speeding it up.
Thank you so much! I fell apart tackling the cumulus clouds…turned to “mud chucks”. But I had so much fun and success with the last two, I’m going back to conquer the second again. Such an informative video, I subscribed and will explore your website and other videos. Really exciting! Great video!
Great question! This one is by da Vinci paints and is simply “phthalo blue” but if you’re using another brand that only has red or green shade as an option, I’d go for the green shade, as it will offer more contrast to the ultramarine blue:)
I’m watching again because I painted my Poppy scene with Gouache and I couldn’t get the right California sky color. I tried Um Blue, then added Pthalo, Prussian but it’s still not right.

Beautiful clouds, very well explained. Is the Pthalo blue a green or red shade?

@@CrystalBesharaArtist I just looked at Davinci paints. They have a Pthalo Blue red shade and a Pthalo Blue. So yours must be the green one.
Mine is simply “Phthalo Blue” davincipaints.com/phthalo-blue-15ml-watercolor/
Love it!
