"New lore" tends to mean crazy galactic mega plotlines involving titans and Jailor and time travel to the end of time and whatnot. What I love with the new SoD lore is that it adds lore on a more grounded back-at-home level. I get it that maybe we need the "mega lore", but it is really really nice to have some more smaller scale plotlines and mysteries. It's one thing from Vanilla that needs to get back in the game IMHO.

People really need to stop throwing writers under the bus. People like Danuser and Afrasiabi wrote great lore. If you disagree then you simply don't know what they wrote. Some fan favorite stories and dialogues are written by these "community hated writers."
Metzen coming back is great, but we've still lost some great contributers to WoW.

The white weapons that drop from SM are all clues to the locations of graves needed for the Pain Suppresion priest rune.
I guess that news hasn't spread far yet. The Silver hand Training hammer leads you just outside Theramore to an interactable by priests, grave.

I like the dark rider bit. Only lore we had about them before that was duskwood fall to darkness happened because of that coward in raven hills(modern retail wow) stealing the scythe and causing the dark rider to chase him. Its great to see them more active than just being after the scythe of elune

i love how sod is filling the void of lore in classic, because it really had not much after the burning crusade. it is awesome that we can see more from that era

Them and the Draenei are singlehandedly responsible for like 90% of the bad shit that happens.

I think the Draenei are aware of the chaos that has followed them all around and doesn’t seem to be as pride filled as the elves. At least on Legion Velen as their leader knows he sometimes failed but still tried to push on and endure with their people. Probably related on how Velen personality is, to actually befriend and have compassion for most characters, including Illidan that was opposite to him in many ways.
so happy you covered SoD I don't play retail but love all the lore through all the games so I appreciate getting some love.
You should actually play SoD Bellular, its a lot of fun to go exploring when they release the new phases. Regardless of what you think of the game balancing etc, its a lot of fun to go around and find all these little lore tidbits yourself.

They should bring back Tyrian as an undead paladin that’s somehow stronger than when he was human but he was raised by the light itself

According to a blue post on the forums, "Early on in Season of Discovery development we met with Chris Metzen to talk about the narrative in the season. In that meeting we mutually agreed not to treat Season of Discovery as any sort of alternate history for World of Warcraft. The term that Chris used to describe our narrative approach to Season of Discovery is “found photographs”. This basically means you are finding little bits of information about characters or locations that fleshes them out a bit more as fixtures that are part of the living world of Azeroth, but doesn’t change characterizations, motivations, or reframe any storylines in a major way."

I don't know how void works in relation to time but if xal'atath was in that portal iredicron leapt through at the end of the mega dungeon that puts her at galigrons death in the past. Then iredicron is next seen present day. So they both have some kind of time magic on their side when they need it. (Looking up name spelling while commenting on yt with my phone sux you can understand what i meant lol)
Not sure if it's related or not, but one of my favorite tv shows, "The X-Files", has an antagonist known as, "The Smoking Man". His real name isn't known, but his initials are and those are C.G.B. Spender. With "The Smoking Man" being responsible for many historical shadow government operations, for example, the assassination of J.F.K., it seems like a reference to him in WoW with the initials C.B. Maybe I'm reaching though.

The Hammer, Sword, Staff, etc. that are found in Scarlet Monastery are all for a Priest rune, I think dispersion.

Starting to get the feeling of SoD being retail in an alternate timeline as of the timing of knifu and other huge story elements that might get relevant in retail tbh. Xal as a void being moving between timelines feels more than possible, also her bringing help from these other timelines?

I really hope it is Xal'atath. Playing both SoD and Retail, would make it a great crossover honestly. It feels like a complete story thats being made and then continuing for once.

@@Jamie-ul6ww So am I. Xal'atath did not leave the dagger in Legion. It was the AP that we channeled into Sargeras' blade. She was freed from the dagger in BfA & disappeared through a void portal.
We then see her again on the other side of the void portal Iridikron went through in 10.1.5.
I’m calling it now. At the end of season of discovery we uncover the plot of the war within and were able to bring our characters to that expansion when it launches

I love these stories that all just feel like small DnD campaign mysteries. Stuff that only dips its toe into big world-scale events but then gets back out of it pretty quickly.
I really hopp Illiari Duskfeather get raised as a Forsaken in the time of BfA and Will be in the Horde in a later expansion 😏
Would be nice if they just kept SOD, and put that into the Modern Game as a timewalking option for questing!
I think with the level 77 agents issue & the sleeping bag, “CB” could be the same as “-C” ,the unseen character that sends rogues many letters helping them acquire runes in return for favors… cause rogues be shady & all. Idk how other classes obtain their tbh I dislike juggling alts….
imagine if the "ture timeline" is retail is the infinite dragonflight or the "evil timeline" is going to be SOD because of the new actions we take and stories we uncover.

Haven´t followed WoW in quite a while. Is Season of Discovery Lore in any way canonically relevant? Or is the lore more like a self contained spin off like the Season itself?

I think it would be cool if SoD was actually an alternate timeline to tie up loose ends or canonical mistakes.
My thoughts on Xal’atath, what if at 60 they open caverns of time and find out we are in a timeline that was introduced in BC but never explored and Xal’atath is just bouncing between the two!!!

With SOD is it all lore we've seen in game before somewhere? The only thing I can think of as far as the initials CB would be some member of the Blackmoore family we haven't seen before. Supposedly Aedelyn Blackmoore was a general who sold state secrets and may have been executed, but it was never told to whom they were sold to. If Alterac answered to Lordaeron, then really the only other place he could sell secrets to would be the remnants of Arathor. We know that Aedelyns son Aedelas Blackmoore was a serial rapist most notably of Thralls friend Taretha who died in her mid 20's.
Could the Bronze dragons have saved Taretha in Escape From Durnholde because she was pregnant?
Or is that sniper rifle set up at only a height that the rare spawn turtle, Cranky Benj, in Hillsbrad could operate?

I gotta go up to his office, I gotta put his mail in the guy's goddamn hands! Otherwise he's never gonna get it, it's gonna keep coming back down here. So I go up to CB's office and what do I find out, Mac, what do I find out? There is no CB. The man does not exist, okay? So I decided, ohh shit, buddy, I gotta dig a little deeper. There's no CB, you gotta be kidding me, I got boxes full of CB! All right, so I start marching my way down to Carol in H.R. and I knock on her door and I say, "Caaarol, Caaarol! I gotta talk to you about CB!" And when I open the door, what do I find? There's not a single goddamn desk in that office. There is no Carol in H.R. Mac, half the employees in this building have been made up. This office is a goddamn ghost town.

Retail is the “true timeline” that the Titans want. SoD is going to be a timeline where we break away from their design
It was confirmed on the forum awhile back that this isnt an alt timeline.
Imagine with me for a moment. Imagine if Blizzard's even-bigger-plan is for after the Worldsoul Saga ends, they intend to release basically WoW 2, a sequel developed on a modern game engine while keeping the same art style, storytelling at the level of vanilla WoW, with some borrowed features from current ARPGs like the skill trees and crafting system of Last Epoch, class inspiration drawn from the Hero Talents they plan to implement, and a gutting of everything that seems like bloat and unnecessary in the current game. This would be... heavenly.

16:50 Remember though, the Legion did not really have much to do with the Burning Crusade expansion. Most of the demons we were fighting were under the command of Illidan and his lieutenants, with only a few scattered here and there that were still affiliated with the Legion.
This isn’t exactly true. At the time of BC Illidan was fighting a multi front war, mostly focused on fighting the legion who kaelthas had sided with. Western Nagrand as an active legion invasion that you need to stop. Netherstorm was mostly legion influence and the final raid of BC was against the legion. Especially in the book Illidan it shows that he didn’t really care to fight the people from Azeroth, he was focused on the legion and their invasions.
@@CompoundProjectsYou named ONE raid (out of 8 in the expansion), one zone (which is incorrect anyways, as most of Netherstorm is against the Blood Elves under Kael'thas' command with only a couple Legion-held areas), and part of one zone. So, how exactly is claiming we only fought some scattered Legion forces incorrect? XD
If you read Illidan, then you know it was literally the Legion's plan to make us think Illidan's demons and himself were in the Burning Legion so Azeroth's finest would deal with him, since the Legion had failed to end him so many times before. With this information, excepting cases like Socrethar (who also seems like a rogue Legion agent), it contextualizes those few Legion "invasions" we saw in Outland into bait-and-switch plans to make it look like we were fighting an active Legion invasion when, in fact, that was shut down back in WarCraft III when Vashj, KT, and Illidan went around Outland closing portals (many of which can be seen inactive around Outland).
This further shows and explains that most, if not all, of the Legion activity in Outland is from members who got stranded there when said portals got closed and Illidan hasn't considered the few scattered forge camps to be a big enough threat to warrant being a priority.

This is the cool stories classic gets... meanwhile in retail we are saving baby animals for a gay dragon couple.
On the one hand, admittedly it feels crotchety to say this wasn’t in the original game it shouldn’t be added to classic. Which is true, this feels wrong on soo many levels. That classic, by definition people living in the past, are getting new content. You can’t lore fix a story by having two versions of the game running, current content and old content. People wanted classic servers because they wanted the good old days, and after a bit of fighting Blizz decided to give them what they wanted. If you add new content they’re not getting the version of the game they hemmed and hawwed about, not technically anyways. However on the other hand, I guess I could be quieted from this frustration if they just added into the real game everything they add into Classic. If Classic can support it, you better bet your ass the main game can.

Ehh, I don't like that it's putting lore that could be important deep in the weeds of a game mode I've got no interest in, but as long as they keep it short and sweet in a form that you get 100% of the experience from just reading the quest/dialogue text in an article on wowhead that's fine by me.
