    I’m so happy you featured the way some farriers go at the frog. I wince every time I see that. My farrier doesn’t pare down the frog either. Could you comment on soaking horses feet before the farrier arrives? Is it absolutely necessary or do you guys want to see the every day condition of the foot so certain things can be determined?

      My farrier always based it on the ground conditions the week b4 the trim. Hot n dry weather, soak em. Cold n wet, leave as is. That was UK guidance tho, might be diff over the pond lol

    Nice how you built a shoe that allows that horse to subtly shift his weight to find the most comfortable position. I hope you are finding comfort and fast healing for your own right hand and wrist.

    I like what you said about the frog. I always thought other guys spend too much time on the frog. I'm no ferrier but what you said makes sense.

    A beautiful piece of work, I hope the horse improves with custom made shoes to help. When I watch farriers I worry for the strains their bodies take, backs, wrists, shoulders, it's got to be one of the hardest jobs there is. All the hammering must be a killer for RSI. Get those apprentices to do the hammering for the shoes so you give your wrist a break and chance to recover.

    Legit question: Why do horse farriers use 'oldschool' materials like a foot stand and (moslty) handtools while cow trimmers have shoots that lift the cow up and pick up their feet for them. Is there a reason why this is not preferred for horses?
    This 'oldschool' way seems way harder on your back and knees so i suspect there is a reason it hasnt changed. Would like to know the benefits. Thanks

    • @ChicagoMel23
      @ChicagoMel23 Месяц назад

      Probably because horses would be in danger if they panicked in one of those

    Is it a good idea for a horse owner who cannot afford a farrier to just file the hoof once a week?

      Something tells me no

    • @littlegreengiants811
      @littlegreengiants811 Месяц назад +2

      Hi, horse owner here!
      No, that would be a very bad idea. Hoof care is VITAL in keeping a healthy horse, therefore if you have a horse, having a farrier come out to check on your horse is just as important as a wellness check with a vet. Every horse has its own specific needs, and with having a good farrier, said farrier is going to be able to help you figure out what is best for your horse.
      Horses are big expensive animals, and if you want to keep a horse happy and healthy... you are most likely going to spending a decent amount of money to pay for it.
      My advice for this would be, if you can't afford to properly care for an animal, ESPECIALLY an animal as outrageously expensive to own as a horse, then you should reconsider getting that animal.
