This situation is talked about in Dr. Stone, Senkuu explains that sometimes volcanic or montainous places have hot termal waters and sulfuric acid ponds, these ponds have sulfuric vapors that can be displaced by the wind and settle in lower grounds, so if you are in Siberia mountains... theres a chance those poor souls walked on a settled sufuric vapors spot
If they were near a hot springs it could have been sulfur dioxide. It can gather above the surface and when wind blows its can travel for a while. It kills in meer moments.
The six hikers who died were members of a seven-person hiking group led by Lyudmila Korovina; Valentina Utochenko was the group's sole survivor. Despite the police receiving a report, no formal search was carried out until 24 August. It took two days for helicopters to locate the remains, because Utochenko had not yet been able to recount her version of what had happened. According to an autopsy report, all of the victims died of hypothermia, except Korovina, who died from a heart attack
No , my friend Khamar Daban is a mountain located at Buryat region , and as a Buryat speaker myself Khamar Daban literally means " Nose hills" but Khamar is often used to substitute the word small hills or little hills
Wendigoon made a really good video about this incident, one theory he discussed was that the Russian government was testing toxic gaseous materials in that area and the hikers stumbled upon a toxic gas cloud, essentially an invisible killer.

Quick change in pressure could also cause bleeds and immense pain. Almost happened to me in an airplane when we were going down 6,000ft quickly and suddenly my teeth roots on the left side of my mouth starting hurting insanely. I also had felt pressure on the top left side of my head. This theory might be possible but very rare. I doubt this was the case though since every hiker eventually has to go down the mountain. Nah... They didn't experience a quick change in pressure. Even so, it wouldn't be as quick as falling plane. Even in the case of falling plane, it wouldn't cause death, moreover to someone who's just walking
When you go up on surface too fast during hiking the pressure on your hearth beat would be way too high compared to the air pressure, and the opposite would happen when you get down quickly. Maybe it was the side effect of reaching the top faster then they should have. Their blood pressures were too high compared to air pressure on the top of mountain that it teared some of the thin veins in their bodies during the progress too.
The peak of khamar daban is 2 396m and the atmospheric pressure vs elevation graph shows that the pressure would drop by around 24%, so if they went from the base at 0 m altitude it would drop from 100kpa to 76kpa, fairly lower than the average pressure but not deadly, even on mount everest where the pressure is 70% lower than at 0 m people don't die from pressure difference. Those are all highly idealized numbers as the group at khamar daban didn't start from 0m and they spent days in the mountains so they had time to get used to lower kpa all in all barometric trauma is pretty much debunked as a culprit.
You mentioned this was in Siberia, the soviets were known for chemical weapons testing using Antharax. They could have stumbled into a old test site and the soviets just tried to cover it all up maybe.
