I have a Taurus/Rossi Circuit Judge, which is very similar to the firearm you have in this video. It fires .45LC as well as .410 and really is one of my favorite firearms to go out and have fun. It's great to introduce newer shooters to .410 as the first step to shotgun shooting, and it's perfect for the recoil sensitive folks. It should be an excellent choice for the kids. I agree, it looks like 20 yards is best max range for the setup you have there. Looking forward to the kids strutting around with some hard earned drumsticks. Good luck and stay safe safe. I have a Rossi Circuit Judge which is similar. I can fire .45 cowboy rounds as well as .410 shotgun rounds. We keep it loaded by the front door for unexpected tweaker invasions (we got a lot of those critters in our forest.)
    First round is rock salt.
    Second is rubber projectile.
    Third is bird shot.
Forth is one of those crazy .410 shells with 3 slugs and 12 beebees.
Fifth is a hollow point .45.
My only complaint is it unloads slow and awkward.

Nice guns. I used to have the Taurus circuit judge. Urs is very similar. Mine would shoot 45 colts and 3 inch 410s. Mine had a screw in straight choke tube. Using choke tube, it patterned really good out to 20 , 25 yards. I shot more 45s because of the price of 410s. Parted with mine because of the very thin cylinder walls. I was afraid it mite not handle my reloads. But it did quite well with 410s. I just wish these companies made stronger guns.

Dunno if you've ever shot a .410 at a turkey, but 9 shot is too damned small. That's what I've used for quail , dove, i.e. little bitty birds. For a gobbler I've always used 4 shot or larger, i.e. 2.
Also, you use small shot like that, you better like the taste of lead shot :) Also, is that barrel smooth bore or rifled.. I know Taurus/Rossi makes a similar rifle called the Circuit Judge. I *think* it also fires 45 Colt.

I have long assumed that it was the result of injuries suffered by hunters (to themselves) when black powder revolving rifles and/or shotguns "chain fired" that resulted in South Carolina banning revolving long guns for hunting purposes. You would think that with modern cased ammo, that has been around for as long as it has, that such restrictions would not exist anymore, but they do! What makes my head hurt when it comes to modern revolving shotguns or rifles is that I've seen so many of them for sale, and they do sell, as it's been a rare occasion to find one stay on a gun shops rack for very long. So, somebody is buying them and using them for something despite printed regulations that ban them for hunting. So that only leaves Cowboy Action shooting (with black powder loaded shells or cases) and home defense. I really enjoyed this video as it's a rare treat for me to see that such "antique" designs can and do work just as well as any of the far more modern and common designs do. Take care and keep up the great work!

most revolvers.. rifle and otherwise, will spit burning hot gas sideways from the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone.. burning your arm and anything else in the proximity. This appears to have a shield of sorts that redirects any gas that might escape.

Ok, :) for those who commented on my 'too damned small' comments on no. 9 shot in a .410 for Turkeys, let me acknowledge 2 things:) First, I've gotten sooo old and set in my ways, I haven't kept up with the rise of tungsten in bird shot. However, where I live, no one, and i mean NO ONE, is going to shell out (pun intended) 50-60 dollars for a box of Turkey loads!
Second, I AM familiar with tungsten pistol/rifle loads as I first shot them in the military out of a VERY specialized pistol some 50 years ago because of their ability to "kill" big block Chevy's (kidding here, all the vehicles were Euro/Asian manufactured). Otoh, I never used those rounds for shooting Turkeys:) Since I was a 'kid' (a VERY long time ago) I pretty much always used a 12 , or in the early years, a 20 gauge and NOT a .410 for gobblers, and pretty much always with no. 4 shot out of the 12, or 2 out of the 20. I have taken a few with a .410 but only a few. Where I live, Turkeys get HUGE, and picking the smaller lead shot out of a bird before dinner is a pita.
Having said all that, No. 7 is available from the Tungsten shot guys and seems to me to make more sense out of a .410 than 9 if that is what you are compelled by law to shoot. Well, I hunt my own property, where turkey's abound and in my state, I don't have to use alternative metal loads, sooo I don't.
But, like I said, your mileage may vary. We'll just have to see how Whotee does with his family's 'safari' :) Lastly , let me thank those who replied explaining why he was using the number 9 TSS in such a congenial manner. I'm frankly not often pleasantly surprised by the quality of no vituperative discourse in the forums:) Hat's off to your community, Whotee:)

Looks like the cylinder and barrel have a good tight fit. I'd hate to have deal with a bunch of blow by tearing into my forearm. Turkey was never my game even when I was a kid in SE Texas, hunting licenses were only 25 cents and had two turkey stamps. The only times I ever saw a wild turkey was when I was fishing and unarmed. Even had one going after my bait box and had to throw dirt clods at it to run it off. As an adult I have ran over and into several wild turkeys with my truck or sport bike but never seen one while hunting. When I was still a kid and had moved to Indiana me and my cousin would sometimes stealth camp in the woods around an old gravel quarry near the railroad tracks and sneak down the tracks a ways to another woods that a turkey farmer owned and we would snipe one of his domestic escapees that took refuge in the woods with pellet guns then take it back to camp, just skin it feathers and all and and cook it up on a campfire. While doing a job in Houston a few years ago I hooked up with another cousin near Cleveland TX and rented one of his deer lease cabins for a month. He warned about some wild tom turkeys running around there that were aggressive and to watch out for them. I didn't see diddly for about a week then one evening while I was unloading some groceries a turkey decided to try to tear into me. I had a carton of beer in one hand and helicoptered the turkey with the other. That's the only wild one I ever killed and ate.

Great looking shotgun. I've always loved the 410 and at 69 yr old I've put a few downrange. Only thing about the 410 is the stinking price. For little ones, it's still great. Young uns get a little bigger I let em use 20 gauge and when they get to holler their britches are big enough , and just won't listen, I let them try my single shot 12 gage. Usually they don't argue after that about that little old 410. Heck I still love it, just not feeding it.
Good luck brother, keep those kids in the woods, they'll thank you one day.

The aim point on a turkey is about halfway between the head and shoulder. If you use the head as your aimpoint, by definition you are shooting HALF of your load over him. ONE pellet in the hear OR spine will do the job, so hold lower than the head.

I got a question about this gun. I remember seeing a revolver type rifle on pawn stars. They brought up the downside to it and as a revolver handgun shooter. I was taught to keep everything clear from the area between the cylinder and barrel because of hot stuff under pressure coming out. They showed pictures of someones finger after he extended it out like they are teaching guys that shoot semi autos after his first revolver shot and it was not pretty. How do they stop that on this shotgun? I like the idea but a little conserned about that and not just letting anyone stoot it? Thank you if you can answer this question. It would be a deal breaker for me if that is still an issue?

Did you find out? If not I'll try to explain. What you were told about hand position was correct. With a rifle/long gun your support hand should be holding the forestock or steadying the buttstock to your shoulder like he demonstrates in the rest. There is no reason to have your hands near the cylinder while firing.

Its amazing the tech in ammo.. 10 years ago we would have said you need to use a 410 with in 15 feet to kill turkeys

Here in Maine, you have to use a 20 gauge or larger for turkeys. I wouldn't mind having that bing bang for birds, rabbits and squirrels.

I don't know about using a 410 bore shot gun for turkey. I think 20 gauge is minimum.

hey WTW i got a 28 ga. that i used to teach my nephews to turkey hunt used a full choke and #5 shot nice light kicking gun and good out to 40yds. give or take...mine is a 870 wingmaster and i've used it to squrriel hunt for a long time...a sweet shooter strong enough to give good reach but still small enough to not tear it up either....JMHO maybe an idea for your kids and not killing them by handing them a 12 ga. like my kin did me.....took me a long time to get over that flinch..old mod.12...kicked like a mule..still got it..

The thing is who will get 10 yards to shoot at a turkey? Is there other options in ammo that is less expensive? I like the gun but not the caliber. How much extra is the red dot?

In California that's considered an assault weapon and is illegal. Other than a short barrel having a cylinder on a shotgun is one of the only limitations

Just got say you did that bullet drop on 12ga now that opens up slug drops on 16ga 20ga and 410ga. Also the difference in 2 3/4” and 3” and then foster slugs vs sabot slugs. Now I grew up in area that was slug gun only. My family was a Ithaca gun family but we argued over gauge my grandpa was a 16ga man my dad and I 12ga my uncle 20ga so maybe you can do a head to head and see what happens

Would you recommend this gun and shell caliber to someone new to shotguns? I'm not too big of a shotgun guy, but this definitely has some cool factor along with not too big of a price tag, unlike the cool Benelli M4 I've always wanted.

    • @ronindebeatrice
      @ronindebeatrice Год назад

410 really has limited use scenarios. I would recommend a 20 gauge to newbies, a lot more options for ammo and use, while not producing any significant recoil.
