    lol @ people calling this "scalping" or "price gouging", it's literally just capitalism, it's not like he's selling food to the starving, no one *needs* a monopoly game, he's not forcing anyone to sell to him or buy from him, he's entered into voluntary contracts with walmart to buy the stuff, and voluntary contracts with ebay customers to sell the stuff.

    • @n8style
      @n8style 5 лет назад +12

      @@chris2790 of course he's providing value, every one of his customers can pay a bit more and get a game delivered to their home address instead of having to spend all day travelling across half the country and trawling through 2 dozen supermarkets to find one.
      He didn't reduce scarcity at all, he's reselling them not burning them. Sure he'd like a monopoly, every company would, but you're missing the bigger picture...there are other people who can and are doing the same thing, the definition of competition. Also this is probably one of the few times it's worked out so well. He's not gonna make videos of the times he didn't make as much or lost money.
      Gonna just ignore the comparison to parasites and socialist dictators because we both know that's absurd.

    I'd say you made this look a lot easier than it really is. I also sold limited edition discontinued Littlest Pet Shop monopoly games worth more than this, that I had a large sealed quantity of, they took 4 months to sell, on top of that I had to cut the price to $20 lower than the lowest asking price than anyone else just to get mine to sell. Retail stuff is tricky to profit on, like this guy bought all of these right before they completely sold out online and made top dollar on each one sold and they all sold within 24 hours, that's almost unheard of. Most cases, you'd get home and find 10 other people beat you to it on Amazon and they are only making $10 profit after fees and shipping so u gotta go less to sell yours and it's not even worth it now. So they all get returned. In short. This guy did it very well. Any Beginners who want to start buying crazy amounts of a product at Walmart to get into this, don't expect these results until you know exactly what your doing.

      John Mickey - Great comment, thanks. I only heard about this game in this vid. If I go to my local Walmart tomorrow they probably won't have it. Of course, this guy shopped the week before Thanksgiving. I have an Amazon sellers account, but only listed one item a year ago. I do some re-selling on eBay. A quick buy and sell like this one is encouraging, but as you say, one needs to know what they're getting into.

      John Mickey - Truer words are rarely spoken. One thinks, shit I can do that, then reality sinks in and it turns out to be actual WORK! When I look at a business venture that I dream up or want to be involved in, before I do ANYTHING, I break it down into the individual steps it will take to actually DO IT. Ask yourself, do I really want to DO all the things that will make this venture successful. Break it down and look at it on a day to day basis and consider the extended amount of time it will take for YOU to make it successful. Ask yourself, am I really motivated and do I know enough about this to do something like this. Many people aren't, and if you do the above you'll have a much better idea as to whether YOU can money doing this, as it may turn out NOT to be nearly as glamorous or easy as you initially thought. Knowing beforehand WHAT you getting yourself into and not just throwing money into something, will in the end, save you from frustration and heartache! Done that, been there.

      If they allow the return. Resellers have always been a problem for retail stores even before flipping on Amazon became a thing. A lot of stores refuse dealer returns as most stores don't/can't just stick returned items back on the shelf so they end up losing money. So if the customer service clerk is trained properly if you come in with a receipt saying you bought 27 of them and you're returning 8 then they'll likely refuse the return.

I was running at about $50k part time while working FT but the margins on the amount of inventory I had to hold became more and more overwhelming. Simple supply and demand. Many people wanted to purchase this game for a Christmas present. The initial supply of the game wasn't big enough to meet the demand for them, so the price goes up. Many people are willing to pay 4X the Walmart price when the demand is high, and supply is low. This isn't a product that is a necessity, like food, medicine, water, etc. so there is nothing unethical about buying up as many as possible for resale. Eventually stores will get more of these, and the price will go back down once the supply is high enough to meet the demand. If you don't want to pay 4X the cost, then just wait until the supply increases. Some people would rather pay the premium to get it right away. It's $25.43 on Amazon now.

    People paid you the money because you saved them the time and effort and headache of locating the items. You did the foot work for them.
    Good job. Often I gladly pay a markup just so I don't have to ride all around going to many stores to find what I want.
    Sometimes a half day shopping trip finds nothing and I go home and order it from Amazon in 5 minutes.
    And then I kick myself for not doing that in the first place.

    Won't be long until large retailers limit purchase counts.

      Why would Walmart care?

      @@elo4630 As a Walmart manager I can say we don't really care about something like this Monopoly game, just more sales for our store. If it's something that is really limited and in high demand we might impose limits because we'd rather have 20 happy customers than one happy customer and 19 that are pissed that we don't have what they want. When .22lr was in short supply we limited that, same with new video game consoles and certain Black Friday items. If it's something I can just order more of and it sells I'm cool with it, I let the crazy hot wheels collectors crack open my new shippers if they ask, as long as they don't make a mess or buy the whole thing and return all the ones that aren't special. Still have regular non collectors that buy them like crazy so if I can sell 300 a week I'm going to keep ordering mass quantities.

      @@jhonsmith3578 Exactly, Walmart owes its customers a bit of protection from folks using them as their bulk source for reselling.

    Epic! And you didn't have to fight the Black Friday crowds. What kills me is that the media was running stories a couple of weeks ago about how Millenials were offended by the game, Hasbro was making fun of the demographic, the game was gonna be a flop, etc etc. Stupid me, I fell for the media hype and missed a great opportunity! Well done sir.
