  • In today's episode we will continue our series of step by step construction guides by going over the steel erection process. Although these are the necessary steps to building one of our companies pre-fabricated steel buildings from start to finish, many of these steps should also apply to pretty much any metal building project, not just one of ours.
In future videos we will continue to go over each step of the process in greater detail. You can also find a step by step guide provided in our erection manual. Like and Follow us to stay up to date as we release more tutorials, tips and videos and Build Great!
For those of you just discovering us:
Great Western Building Systems supplies high-quality pre-engineered steel buildings. On this Channel, we host videos of our featured projects, tutorials, how-to, tips and tricks, DIY suggestions, and answer frequently asked questions that new builders and customers commonly have. We hope that with our help anyone can learn how to put up a steel building. Many of our customers put their buildings up themselves, and this channel is a resource to help them every step of the way. Enjoy!

Thanks so much Erik for creating these. I'm wanting to do a metal building for our house and for me to actually erect and building out. Between the 3D designer on your website and watching these videos I have been having a ton of fun this week hahaha. But just wanted to let you know that these videos are very helpful and very clear. Thanks

Eric I want to know can i install solar panels onto the roof you supply? Also do you have interior metal wall finishes? thanks and great videos. I'm thinking of a ~38' Depth by 42' or 50' to use for my cars, and equipment.

Hi Dan, I didn't see this comment until just now. The main thing to consider with Solar is their weight - You want to make sure that your building has a few extra lbs of roof load to handle them - This is mostly a permitting and engineering concern - it shouldn't add much cost if any to a 40' wide building - assuming PV panels.
There is a lot of fastening options depending on the roof system. Standing Seam is easies to install solar panels on but Standing Seam is a lot more complicated to install than a regular through fastener roof.
A through fastener (Screw Down) roof will need stand off clips and sealants - usually the company providing the panels will include this and it's very standardized. We can supply specialty brackets that attach to the high ribs of our standard panels which allow the connection of PV Installation brackets but it is usually preferred to attach through the pan section of the panel for a more secure attachment.
If you still have questions, please call into the office and they can get you in touch with Ryan, Tyler or myself.
      Thanks

Hey , its maybe early in this vid to ask , but yes, grout under BP, or NO, grout under BP?? thx 4 putting this out!👍

Always preferable to not have any grout if possible. Depends on the scale of the project though, anything 60x100 should have the correct concrete tolerance to not need grouting - just some minor shimming - Larger buildings often plan for the use of leveling nuts and grout on the BPs out of the gate because staying in tolerance is a tall order on the foundation crew. So they assume a couple of inches to eliminate excess shimming or grinding. Really depends on the project.
      Thanks
