Neither party seem to have any knowledge or regards for the rule of law and getting what they deserve. It would be interesting to hear landlord side of story too.
First of any owner cannot enter in tenants basement without 24 hour notices. As he said she used to be there morning and evening checking if cleaning is done or not which is type of harasment. Thats tenants job they will do when they want. Students or other people who donot know their rights as tenants and lanlords right please do read all these on Landlord and tenant board. Also if any tenant has doubt if basement is illegal they can find in the same website how to notify the municipality or respected organisation for illegal basement/ property of any kind. Know your right and do right stay safe.
These tenats can notify the City of Brampton building division for illegal construction. I donot understand if lanlords are themselves doing illegal activity and trying to earn what is the problem to adjsut with students then. Why harras students on the name what they can do they came in Canaa with study loan. What are landlords doing trying to convert Canada in India? Students mostly follow rules and most of the time they are not aware. Landlords know and they do things on purpose. But still blame all students.
I think you should file a case against them with mental harassment as the basis and provide this video as evidence.

The same is happening with me currently,owner(lady) came in room at 10 pm and asked to leave immediately ,she started shouting on me and said that someone is coming in your room on 31 dec so leave the room otherwise I will throw your stuff out earlier she only said that you can stay if you want as one more girl from other room is leaving and when I told her that I have no place to go and I will pay you rent for next month as well she started fighting in the night I requested to talk on next day but she asked to talk now or go from room in the mid of night on 26 dec 2023 .no need to mention that it’s an illegal basement and a lot of bugs here. Although I am looking for room but her behaviour is unacceptable and I really want to fight with her

i think you have misunderstood brother. if you had agreed rent for 1100 for a one bed basement you wouldn’t expect your landlord to bring in new tenants to live with you (on top of this the landlords were exploiting the new tenants too and charging them an additional 2400). firstly there should never have been any new tenants allowed she kept taking new tenants for greed and adding them to the basement. then she was harassing and bullying the tenants and entering without notice and without a genuine cause plus the basement was illegal, which could have had greater damaging consequences.

This lady and her husband are absolutely uneducated and don’t follow any law. A Serious legal must be taken against them so that they won’t harass new tenants.
International students do have enough funds by law to afford basic amenities. This is inflated pricing and people buying up new homes and expecting the students to pay their mortgage or renting illegal basements for rent. They also do not follow any laws under the landlord and tenant agreements. They barge in the homes without any notice.
When they want money they become Canadian. When it comes to follow tenancy laws, then they become Indian
