    I've literally been playing this game off and on since launch day and this is the first time I've ever bothered to learn this, and you explain it all amazingly.
    I've never had other agents to coop with and I get burnt out on solo play quite fast. Never been to any events or even done a first sat with how much of a chore it is to get in them, so at the very least after this vid I know I can make some better fields now.
    I have 90+ portals up with 700mu between the lot of them: my entire dowtown. That seems not good.

    Basically around 2 years ago I see a video like that from you, and I could improve my fielding addiction.
    I'm so proud to have unlocked Mind Control Onix Medal (the one and only in my State), learning how to max fields, no matter which anchor or side begin to start links or re-fielding. It was a long journey, now it's more than 58k fields.
    Thank you to make this possible.

    I really like your FanField method. It is simple, practical & elegant.
    I use both the Herringbone and the Cobweb, although my fellow agents & I call it the Nautilus (because it spirals out and it's difficult to crush all those MU fields).
    In fairness, if you use either the Herringbone or the Nautilus it is possible to link to all the portals PROVIDED you implement a secondary method which I call "Spur formation". In order to create a Spur, you link those "out of pattern" portals to the outermost corners of the largest field created by the Nautilus before fielding over those portals and then link back to it during the following layer.
    For an example of creating a Spur and pausing your video at 1:57, I would send the southernmost ENL agent to the closest grey portal and get him to capture it and link it to the south and east corner of the Nautilus. Allowing time to advance to 2:00, as that southernmost ENL agent makes his next layer he would link, left, right, back to the portal before AND THEN to the Spur. This ensures you don't leave any AP behind and includes those pesky "out of pattern portals". It works for both the Herringbone and the Nautilus (Cobweb). Depending on how complex the portal geography is, things can get complicated and could require variations like linking double Spurs within the same layer. Adequate planning can solve pretty much all of those eventualities.
    However, that being said planning out a Nautilus (with or without Spurs) can require an exhaustive (and even exorbitant) amount of time in front of the Ingress Intel page. Your Fan-Field method is much more Agent friendly.
    In conclusion, I am a big fan of your FanField method! Thank you for creating and sharing it.
    Sincerely,
    Agent JonnyReb

      thank you :) the aim of the fanfield was to be simple enough for agents to use on the field, with little or no preparation. From the feedback I'm getting, it meets that standard! You're right that it's possible to bring the 'lost' portals into a herringbone or nautilus/cobweb - but also right that it takes a lot of planning, and/or a really really good intuition for how fields work!

    Yes your videos are very helpful. I watched them when I first started playing ingress. I like doing the fan fielding when I'm fielding on my own. I even used modified plans of the cobweb style to do big fields with several agents. It maximized the layers using the limited amount of portals we used. Most big fields are the herring bone style.

    I only just recently mastered the cobweb method (called Onion method in the blog post I found it on) but I had sort of begun to think that there was a better way to do it and, wow, this is even better than any method I could imagine myself (which probably isn't many). Also, fantastic video, very helpful in visualizing how the process works.

      I did watch the cobweb video afterwards and it also was illustrative in how limited my cobwebs/onions had been. I'm in St Louis and I've been grinding a lot lately so I could get to lvl 9 before Via Lux happens here and I so wish I had seen these a few weeks ago! Still, this is going to make that steep climb to the double digits MUCH easier. I'll be sure to watch the rest of your fielding tips, as they're the perfect length as well!

    Hi Michael,
    thank you for your quick reply.
    If we plan fields in our local ingress community, it would be helpful to have a tool to draw the fields offline bevore. Can you recommend something?

    • @voynich7825
      @voynich7825 7 лет назад +1

      Florian You could take a Screeanshot from the Intel Map and then Construct the field with a drawing programm.

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  7 лет назад +5

      You could use IITC?
      If you're doing a (not too big) herringbone or a fanfield, you can often just go and do it, with no need to plan.

    I have an area nearby that is full of portals and sort of long in nature, so I'm planning to turn that into a huge herringbone. Not entirely standard, due to some stray portals that I want to incorporate, but the base will be a herringbone.
    My only problem is, one anchor portal is a bit farther away from everything else, so farming keys might be a bit of a problem. Am I right in assuming that I can simply create outgoing links from that anchor to the spine and then create the rest of the herringbone as normal, walking along the spine?
    You wouldn't be able to do this with both anchors, but one is fine, right?
    (Also, one part of that area is so dense with portals, I wish it let you zoom in more on intel... It is kinda warranted, though - it's an open air museum of an artists backyard. Lots and lots of statues and sculptures and whatnot)

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  4 года назад

      Yes, your plan will work, as long as you can make enough outgoing links. (1) capture the spine, (2) link from one anchor to all the portals in the spine, and to the other anchor (3) walk along the spine, pretending you're linking to both anchors, even though half the links are already there.
      In fact, you *can* link out from both anchors. Here's how:
      (1 or 2) capture all the spine, and link them together in a long chain
      (2 or 1) link out from one anchor to all the portals on the spine
      (3) link the two anchors together.
      (4) link from the second anchor to all the portals on the spine, *big triangles first*

    • @Yotanido
      @Yotanido 4 года назад

      @@57Cell I won't be able to make all of the links outgoing, but I can make 8 of them outgoing and the rest incoming.
      My current plan is to basically do the building from the anchorpoints for the first 8 inner portals, then continue with the spine as normal.
      In the context of your general maximum fielding algorithm, this would be like the "wave of influence" having the shape of a triangle, with the slope such that the outer portals are hit after eight inner portals were hit.
      I will still need 5 and 9 keys for the anchors with my current plan, but that should be fairly doable. Especially if I get lucky with glyph hacking and get bonus keys, it won't take long at all.

  • @scottbaker3876
    @scottbaker3876 7 лет назад +5

    Correct me if I am wrong... cant you oy shoot 8 links out of a single portal. You can have many in bound but max 8 out. So that fan is not possible.

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  7 лет назад +6

      +Scott Baker that's right, unless you use SBUL, which gets you up to 40 outbound links. Or, they could have changed the plan and linked 8 or 1 to A, instead of from A.

  • @aesthetically_bound
    @aesthetically_bound 4 года назад +1

    I am seeing links and fields thrown under larger fields and I thought you couldnt link under fields making it where you need to go feom smallest to largest?

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  4 года назад

      You can't link *from* under a field, true. But you can link *into* a field from the corners. Try it!

  • @IamTristanC
    @IamTristanC 8 лет назад +2

    i thought you could not create a field when you are already in a larger field. wont you have to swap the order in which you deploy the fields in the animation to prevent the larger fields from preventing the smaller ones from being formed?

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  8 лет назад +1

      You can link from the corner of a field, into the field to a portal it covers, but not the other way round. Try it and see!

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  3 года назад +1

      It's hard to take down portals until you can use level 5 or 6 bursters, but don't worry - big fields rarely stay in place for very long. Keep playing and see what happens...

  • @rafaelsantosx

    1:17 to rebuild from the anchor like that, you'll need to put a mod ultralink softbank, right? Because of the 8 links limit.

    Hi there, which one is better for AP... fanfielding or herringbone?

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  8 лет назад

      the fanfield lets you use portals you'd have to skip when herringboning, so it gets you more AP. If you find some portals you can build a herringbone on without leaving any out, the fanfield gives the same number of AP.

  • @zonicthedog
