And you'll notice, friends: No flash pots, no smoke bombs, no weird face makeup. Just fantastic musicians doing their thing. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame notwithstanding, The Ventures have never gotten the credit they truly deserve, IMHO.
I just discovered my project Covid-cope april 18th even if it takes till christmas ...LEARN THIS SONG on lead guitar thru a 64 ViBROVERB (till it makes weird popping noises-hey its a 64 so goota be kind to her.... Taylor is a MASTER I had no idea he does this. I'll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak why this doesnt have 12million views is beyond me.
I hate to say it but i liked Mel's original playing in the 60's on the little 4 piece drum set with one ride cymbal and hi-hat. Kind of surprising that he maintained playing traditional grip when most rock drummers use match. It goes to show you that having a huge drum set does not make you a better drummer. I think the 1965 Japan concert was way better.
Calling him "average" just isn't true. In his prime he was better than you give him credit for. (He wasn't the fastest and he didn't play the most complicated rhythms, but he was TIGHT. Show me any drummer ever play a tighter line than this ... watch?v=fKsWl1fDzbw.) Just because someone can't do what Buddy RIch could doesn't make them "average".

When America still had the moral authority. When MBA never taught to sell 1c item for $100. When Good was good and evil was Evil. Honesty > Flexibility., Honor > Money and Life > Death. When America was not as greedy as the colonizers. I loved America. Not an American proud to say now. Would be ashamed to admit it earlier. This was the music. Inter school sports small city in ...very far off small town in a Asian country.
This version was ruined for me by the drummer tapping on the bass. I absolutely loved the original version when the bass came in after the drum solo; was the drummer involved in that version too? If so, he did a better job then.
I like seeing what he's doing on that guitar in this version. Love the sound of the earlier live in Japan recording, but the footage isn't exactly very informational for someone wanting to learn this piece.
we loved to play that song and walk don't run....those were the days for young bands who were short on singing.....man we played lots of instrumentals....Memphis, scratchy, Matilda, wheels, surf twist, wipe out, caravan, 4o miles of bad road, milk cow blues, steel guitar rag, sleepwalk, out of limits, pipeline, our own curfew and crawling, the new wildwood flower (rock version), red river rock, sail along silvery moon, and many more...
I must've heard this a million-times...and yet enjoy it everytime...youtube now after years of listening on the 33 1/3 rpm vinyl since 1970s ---then in cassettes n CDs...THANKS, The Ventures... for such great instrumentals .
Best of ALL TIME!! Love and miss him. His son, Leon does a fantastic job.
Ventures Is my band until I died !!! That's why I'm in music ! I'm 72 years old !!!!!! Yes .....
And you'll notice, friends: No flash pots, no smoke bombs, no weird face makeup. Just fantastic musicians doing their thing. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame notwithstanding, The Ventures have never gotten the credit they truly deserve, IMHO.
Right on!
After Mell Taylor's death his son took over his place with the Ventures. He drums just like his dad. Possibly the best drummer ever!!!
Leon Taylor. Saw him with Mel and Nokie in, I think, 2012. Great drummer. They did Caravan, Mel would have been proud.

ONE OF THE GREAT DRUMMERS EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Mell Taylor's son is Leon Taylor and is with the band now (2016) and tours mostly in Japan.
The Master!!! Mel Taylor R.I.P.
Instrumentally only, perhaps the best rock band ever.
The drumsticks on the basgitaar sounds like music from some Pink Floyd album ! great !!!
is this guy(drummer) related to Buddy Rich ?? Glad he gets to show his skills compared to the early days. Great, great, great !!! Fantastic band !!
I saw Buddy Rich and his band live in 1971 in New York, this guy is every bit as good as Buddy. Wonder if they ever met?
Robert Gray the drummers name is Mel Taylor and he's not but liked his drumming I play drums and met Mel WIFE
Machine Gun Mel never disappoints.

Just plain ol good musicianship. Cut my teeth listening to these guys and they are still as great today. Big-Time musical inspiration.
Super!!!

as good if not better than the 60s version both are as good as I can remember
The drummer's name is still unknown by most.
Mel Taylor
Unbelievable Drummer. Those hands were Blessed to Drum.
Mel did a great job, real entertainer!
Not Nokie but just as good. Nice to see Mel's son carrying on for his father.
I think Nokie is better, but I'm prejudice because I grew up with Nokie as lead.
Great Drum Solo by Leon Taylor!!
T`was Mel..Leon`s father.
SWolfgang1 Taylor is awesome!
..the drummers name is Mel Taylor
I know it isn’t the original lineup but THE important thing is the chaps are carrying on the legacy. Well done boys!
This version was ruined for me by the drummer tapping on the bass.

So what?
I like seeing what he's doing on that guitar in this version. Love the sound of the earlier live in Japan recording, but the footage isn't exactly very informational for someone wanting to learn this piece.
Used to have 2 drummers nack in the day. It was epic. Live in Port Hueneme, & they still bust a show occassionally locally.
we need Mel in an Scorsese film
Un excelente Grupo y su musica Super👍
We have the ventures to thank for NES music like Megaman from Japan
