MUSTACHE FRANKENSTEIN UPDATE: This just in. We now have some actual information about our mustachioed monster. Turns out, he was played by a stuntman and actor who would go on to become the luchador, Tinieblas.
Tinieblas would also appear in The Fury of the Karate Experts and World of the Dead. Guess I should have checked IMDB a bit more closely. But that's the way it goes round here.
A big thanks to www.youtube.com/@raulcruz716 for the information.

"You want to come bowling, Mr Stirling?"
"Not tonight, daddy-o; I'm feeding my plant."
Dick Miller is so effortlessly cool.
Kiss Me quick appears to include an early outing for Alfred Molina in his guise as Dr Octopus.
The Mummy from that Santo/Blue Demon film has got a wonderful face.
Gillman's expression, with his Billy Idol sneer, made me chuckle. Thanks for another great episode.

The fishmen from Humanoids of the Deep are probably the sleaziest of gill-men type creatures, but the Creature from the Tub Lagoon is pretty close. And kinda rock n' roll as well. Now that's the buddy picture I want. Dick Miller vs the Rock n' Roll Gill-man.

Ship of Monsters is a great Mexican monster movie that features alien creatures, stripperific alien astronauts (one of which is a vampire) and a Mexican singing cowboy. I'd also give a nod to the 1968 movie Mission Mars, with Darren McGavin, Nick Adams, and some of the weirdest Martians ever. A very groovy musical score, too. Round it out with Yokai Monsters 100 Monsters from Daiei Studios, the makers of the Gamera movies. First of a trilogy of Yokai Monsters films.

Most Excellent list Rob, but I would expect no less from the internet’s favorite robot gorilla video host 😁 I totally remember that Monster Maker commercial, in fact i used to quote the “Very niiiiice!” line as a kid, but couldn’t remember where it came from 😅 And oh man, _Saturday the 14th,_ i haven’t seen that since it was in the theater 😳 May have to revisit.
For some of my fave wacky monster flicks, how about 1967 Supermarionation-puppet-style monster extravaganza _Mad Monster Party,_ 1968’s _The Bat Woman,_ with female Mexican wrestlers, mad scientists, and a (small) army of fish-men, the 1981 Vincent Price & John Carradine nightclub-based anthology _The Monster Club_ (which has one of the best theme songs EVER, “Monsters Rule, OK!” 😁), and for sheer sleazy-sounding title value (but a rather tame movie overall) 2005’s giant creature sci-fi spoof-tacular _The Naked Monster,_ with more classic B-movie all-star actors than you can shake any number of sticks at. And as a bonus, anything by genre mash-up _artiste extraordinaire_ Damon Foster of _Shaolin vs Frankenstein_ infamy 😆

The Bat Woman is a good one. With the new fancy Indicator release, might be a good time to cover it again on a top list.

I've never seen a Santo film either. Man, we definitely missed out on those Spook Shows. What?! No Gorilla suit actor credits?! I'm guessing that you're saving it for your Gorilla suit actors tribute video. I can't wait to go to eBay and see what that Pajama Party DVD is going for. Thanx for the silliness, my friend. A keen observation as per usual, Mr. Santiago. I actually have no idea who played the gorilla in Monsters Crash the Pajama Party. Information is scarce and the cast list, though listed, doesn't have many of the actual parts credited. The director, David Hewitt is in the film in some role. I would like to think it is he in the costume.
A second keen observation, good sir of the Jerry Warren society. My closet has gotten pretty darn full. I like to have different shirts for the episodes, but being that I shoot four a month, it's really starting to add up. Fun fact ... fun adjacent fact, I probably have 4 times more Hawaiian and bowling shirts than I do t-shirts.

@ AtomicSnackBar - It's funny how ideas come back around. We sadly missed the timing with those Spook Shows, but in the early 2000s, when the X-Men movies were at their height, my nephew and some of his friends got paid ( probably in sodas, popcorn and movie tickets) to dress as the X-Men and Track's black suited soldiers dragged my nephew's girlfriend out of the audience exclaiming that she was a "Mutant!" at which point the heroes run in and a brawl breaks out between the two sides. Not exactly spooktacular, but a lot of fun just the same. A LOT of work though. But teenagers are willing to do almost anything for free movie tickets.

I remember watching a scene or two of those Mexican movies featuring Santo, Blue Demon and another wrestler named Mil Mascara(1,000 Masks in Spanish). I remember seeing a scene where Santo faces up against Dracula. These movies were only shown on Univision or Telemundo. I was at a disadvantage at the time because as a little kid, I didn’t understand Spanish and I still need to learn. In the summer of 1984, the USA Network had Commander USA’s Groovy Movies. The perfect show if you couldn’t go to the mall or returning home from the mall on Saturday afternoons. Commander USA showed the Mexican horror movies, which were English dubbed and featured actor Abel Salazar, among them was The Brainiac (or Baron Blood). The strangest movie I saw was The Swamp Of The Lost Monster, which featured a Creature From The Black Lagoon-like creature and a cowboy who had to swim in a Speedo and the story was set in the 1800’s.
Worthy of note: In Mexico, the wrestler is more popular than the cowboy. The ornate masks that they wear symbolize their culture and the dichotomy of good and evil.
Speaking of Something Weird Video, the first video I ever bought and watched from that company was The Evil Brain From Outer Space. It was the first film that I saw the Superman inspired hero Starman. The trailer collection at the end of the movie is noteworthy.

Hitting me in the nostalgia bone there as well. I only caught it a handful of times, but I remember Commander USA well. They would run the commercials quite often. USA was a fantastic channel back then and I watched it a whole lot. From Cartoon Express to Up All Night! to the After Lunch Creature Crunch that changed my movie watching world.
I also have fond memories of The Brainiac. It's one of the first trailers shown in the Horrible Horror VHS tape and thus one of my first exposures to 50s/60s sci-fi. I know I talk about that tape way too often, but it shaped who I am.

Trivia for SANTO AND BLUE DEMON VERSUS THE MONSTERS: The werewolf and cyclops were recycled monsters from previous films; the stunt man in the Frankenstein mask was a body builder turned stunt double who would double for Ron Ely in his Tarzan days and would later become the masked luchador Tinieblas ( Darkness) , a scene with the werewolf killing a little kid was filmed but deleted with the movie instead just implying the werewolf killed the kid, Alejandro Cruz, known in wrestling circles as Black Shadow is credited as playing Blue Demon in the movie but it's inaccurate, Alejandro Cruz had doubled for an injured Blue Demon in a few movies prior to this one but Blue Demon does his own fisticuffs in this movie, Alejandro Cruz is briefly seen as Blue Demon but it's stock footage from an earlier movie. You couldn't make a b-movie back then without a mad scientist, a gorgeous lady, and a dude in a gorilla suit. Cinematic iron: it might be serving an industrial purpose and come cheaper and faster than gold, but.. it's honest. Little Shop of Horrors is a uniquely insufferable movie at times, but Miller as Burson Fouch steals the movie, as does Leola Wendorff as Mrs. Shiva, whose graveyard-stuffing family lineage is referenced in the Frank Oz Little Shop! For most of my 20s, I always hung that damn sign on the door to my room to see if any ladies ever got the joke, "We don't LETTING YOU SPEND so much!", but never any takers. Charles Griffin's performance doesn't come anywhere close to the groovy pipes of Levi Stubbs though, but then again, a kind word for Corman IS 'frugal'. Nice to hear so much about Mel Welles too, mostly for the Specterman content~
Kiss Me Quick looks absolutely mad, from the names involved to the mad scientist that I SWEAR was in another movie with more overtly Reich-ian tones. I'd certainly love to Seymour Tuchus than this movie provides, but pretty cool of TV's Frank to play an alien in this movie! And hey, big ups to _Mondo Collecto_ and the acquisition of a copy of the flick thanks to your RP Whalen!
The William Castle/Spook Show aspect of gimmick movies is one of the most interesting phases of cult/B-movie history, with all those daring tricks to play on the audience with just a little flair for presentation. The Tingler always comes to mind because of Vincent Price~ *_"The Tingler is LOOSE IN THE THEATER! SCREAM, SCREAM FOR YOUR LIIIVES!"_* I mean, we unintentionally pay homage to such things nowadays, but when you're doing it to fill seats and pay off an effort like this, you tend to swing harder than for the fences. Ib Melchior's Time Travelers gave me nightmares for some reason, I think it was the weird intelligent eyes in those featureless robot heads.
This is why you don't take the Brown Acid, by the way, otherwise you start worrying about things like man's evolution, the Levi's _Hop Sack_ ...or even *Dacron Polyester*
    _dacron polyester.._
I'll let you get to the El Santo content on your own time, because I've already gassed on for YEARS in this comment, but I just want it known that Mustache Frankenstein can totally take Boxershorts Wolfman from _Kiss Me Quick._
Saturday the 14th is one of the first monster movies I ever saw, actually! I remember it was close to when I turned 5 because I'd gotten an NES from my birthday recently, and was given to sneaking into the den to watch TV at nite anyways. Initially the movie scared me (it was the alien eye-stalks thing) but then, when those monsters put on a snack attack in that kitchen, I remember thinking for the first time that monsters were a lot like me; they just loved to play games, munch snacks, and stay up past bedtime to get into fun times! And the rest is history, for me and so many other little monsters. Also, that Helsing exterminator is totally Guillermo del Toro, look at him!
And on that incredibly engineered segue, I'ma suggest Little Monsters, a movie that I saw around the same age as well that hipped me to the late nite fun and the idea that monsters are just buddies I ain't met yet. Its reputation speaks for itself, and I still love to watch it after skipping to the first encounter with Maurice, but it was also not only kind of frightening at times, but also has cool plot elements to it as well, I feel like no one ever touches on that.
If you made it to the end of this, thanks very much and I only promise to start that channel of my own so I can at least make my time-wasting diatribes a video you can pause and skip! 🪙✨

    • @AtomicSnackBar
      @AtomicSnackBar  2 месяца назад +1

Mel Welles is really an unsung hero. All Little Shop and Spectreman aside, Lady Frankenstein is one of my favorite takes on the story. My first exposure to Rosalba Neri too.
Mondo Collecto is a fun documentary and covers several very different collections. I put link to it in the video description for all your Mondo Collecting needs. Or all your Ted V. Mikels needs.
Those Time Travelers androids ... I'm not sure if they were supposed to be that creepy, but easily some of the creepiest ever put on film. They're like one of those stress guys you squeeze, but life-sized and nightmare inducing.
And those are some bold words. I'm not sure Boxer Shorts Wolfman would agree.
I was a big fan of Little Monsters as a kid. Haven't seen it since, though. But that was another monster land I wanted to go live in. I thought Fred Savage was so lame in that movie for giving it all up.

Weekends with the monsters, all while studying how to maybe counteract the Monsterfication process! Math made sense when I looked into it at the time, so everything can be figured out with enough study... that's what I thought at SIX for some reason, but I'd come to my senses~

Little Shop of Horrors is a masterpiece. Far superior to the remake. have not seen that particular Santo movie, n\but have seen a couple of them. Good fun little movies. Some other wakcy sci-fi movies I remember are Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster, Journey to the 7th Planet, Superargo (2 films), World Without End, The Cyclops, King Dinosaur, The H-Man. So many of them to list. The 50s and 60s were fun decades for Sci-Fi.

I haven't seen that Little Shop remake since the 80s. The effects are spectacular, but other than that, I think the original is just more my speed. I could be wrong, but musicals just aren't my cup.
And good Mr. Smith, Santo and Blue Demon vs the Monsters is must see TV. Easily my favorite Santo film. Very highly recommended. Oddly, YT and Monsters in Motion are the only places I've ever seen it available subbed.

@@garfieldsmith332 Then there's the VCI Santo collection that is dubs only because of legal issues. Really odd case there. Still a nice release, though, with amazing picture quality.
Another thing I like about Corman is his re-use of assets. There's a really fun early 90s Hammer spoof he did called Transylvania Twist. At the end, the Venusian from It Conquered the World shows up as a demon. Very neat to see. And talk about a film that needs a nice bluray.
