Cheers for doing this video. I’m on my third pair of Oxford heated grips. The heat elements seem to burn out after 2 years tops and if they do last longer, then the very soft rubber will wear down eventually and then you are stuffed. Seen guys trying to cut the heat elements out and replace the rubber grips which looks like a painful job to do. I won’t be doing that. I’m going to try the cheap ones now and if they pack up after a season so be it. No more Oxford heated grips for me, that’s for sure! :). Safe riding and good luck with your heated grips
You think It is possible to replace the throttle tube on the eBay grips? I got one, but the diameter of the throttle cable ring Is smaller then my bike's original one. Feels really dull to Ride.
Do You think it's possible to fit Domino grips OVER the ebay heated grips? Even if it meant shaving the ebay grips as well as the inside of the domino grips.
@@Tempcitz ive already fitted the heater elements to the bars and fitted the domino grips over them, despite wrapping the bar in cloth tape and heat shrink and buying 2 different wattage rated elements it's still woefully shit in anything under 10c. I've pulled some resistance wire out from a broken heater i'll be using that next but just curious if i could short cut that whole ordeal by slipping the grips over these. Cheers
Nice. Between this and people reporting that they sometimes put out too much heat, this is exactly what I want. I imagine they feel more heat because these are outside the grip, not inside or even worse: underneath in contact with the steel bars.
Mate, almost a year on, and most likely not running them in any season other than winter. Do they still work ok? Looking at some cheapo's for my gixxer for this winter.
Shawry I've actually had to use them a bit over summer, I've been caught out on chilly nights without the proper gloves. They still work perfectly, and are very handy, do recommend
Hey man off topic I noticed your tank pad on the 1300, did you fit it? I think it is what they call a 3d? I have one but cant figure out how it installs, have you done a vid on it maybe? Yes have seen the eBay grips, not a bad idea but will stick to my Dririder winter gloves as they do a reasonable job.
yeah mine was a cheap ebay one. it came with a double sided adhesive so you take one side off, attach to the tank pad, then peel the other off and chuck it on the tank. The grips are a great little extra thing to have with the winter gloves, takes the edge off!
The eBay ones you have there for $35. I bought the exact same ones from Banggood for around $10. They worked great for about 12 months. Then the power switch snapped off. Now I got the Oxford adventure ones for around $90 and they are miles better. Both gets nice and warm but there is so much more technology in the Oxford grips and control panel that they can’t really be compared to each other.
"Technology" is also a failure point, especially on something exposed to the weather. We don't need much more than a resistance coil and a physical toggle switch.
It's worth getting them now man, keep you warm until summer properly gets here, and even on some chilly nights in summer, where you're stuck with summer gloves haha
I always shunned heated grips but when I bought a Speed Triple they were already on there and i have to say they are brilliant. Mine are the Oxford ones but they are wired direct to the battery so i should think about adding a relay. I wouldn’t leave them on but any passer by could switch them on while my bike is parked
SAM the left side replaces the regular grip, the right replaces the throttle tube, and then you wire it up to the battery, through a relay if you're smart
This was a few bikes ago now 😅 I think I accidentally broke them and pulled the wiring out somehow, and then swapped in some retro style grips. I think they'd probably still be doing well if I wasn't a dingus, but no idea to be bonest

the most perfect video, exactly what i needed to answer every question i had! thanks!
Do You think it's possible to fit Domino grips OVER the ebay heated grips? Even if it meant shaving the ebay grips as well as the inside of the domino grips.
Nah i think you'd be struggling. You can just buy the heating elements and fit over them

@@MafiZed honestly my suggestion if you want anything stylish is to just get some heated gloves for when it's cold

So do the cheaper ones come with a throttle tube?
Yep
@@Tempcitz Any issues getting them to fit? Is it possible to take it off the provided throttle tube and reinstall on another?
@@Booki89 would be a lot harder to do that
Is there any way to wire these so that they shut off with the bike
@@zachzat1581 yep. Wire in with a relay tapped to something that uses ignition. I usually use the numberplate light
I've fitted some on my 2005 vstrom and they work great. controls are and are into the left hand grip. At £6.50 delivered to uk they are a bargain

I don't think heated grips are your biggest issue, try getting some jeans.
;)

Ok thanks for that at least now I know :)

Good video mate. I think next winter I need to get my self some heated ebay grips. Cheers for the info mate

Knightlore10 why would you shun heated grips? Hahaha
The Oxford ones turn off automatically after some time when the engine isn't running. So in theory it shouldn't drai6the battery.
Hey great video! Can you go into detail on the installation of the ebay heater grip. Thanks in advance!

How cold does an Oz winter get?
Not very
Had a nice spin the weekend, a nice 3 degrees, two days later and I still can’t feel my fingers 😂
@@notamotorbikemechanic yeah nah doesn't get that cold here 99% of the time 😂
Are they waterproof? Switch i mean.
Martins Rudzitis I'm not sure if they're rated, but they're both sealed units that didn't have any issues in the wet
the cheapest have just switch, the same as ligt switch, horn, turn etc, so it's not water resistant, but it does no matter..
My new Oxfords started playing up and turning themselves on after a year, watch out for that.
boi, what my bike dint have numberplate light?
Jokke do you have Scott's old mt07?
also an 150cc cross quad
4:00 taking about pussies and a woman behind you lol
Jokke oohhh now I getcha. I dunno, anything that turns on with ignition you can chop in to
well i could do the triangle soldering to some wires
What is the music used in the background???
Vincent Miller it's linked in the description
Vincent Miller I can't tell you which of his instrumental beats it is though, it's been a while
heated handgrip tennis, and try and stay focused, especially when you dealer turns up
Cheap Chinese crap in the uk don’t do it hard rain and there fried had both Oxfords last so I’d say long term oxfords can’t be beaten
Yeah there's a few more rainy days over your way!
