I've always loved the CGI in the Planet Dinosaur series. The dinosaur models are all highly detailed . Even the animations are quite smooth, and detail of the skin and patterns are also amazing. These Mapusaurus' look incredible.
I think the program should get a S2 with updated animations and graphics

@@kkvnair9714 not really. Carcharodontosaurid models in the show are beefier with more curved and larger heads.
The Carcharodontisaurids and Titanosaurs in my mind represent the apex of the arms race between Carnosaurs and Sauropods. Mapusaurus may not have been the largest one but I do believe it was the most effective hunters. Plus how terrifying is it that the Carcharodonisaurid family has no less than 4 genre as big or bigger than T-Rex. Even T-Rex own family don’t have that many species as large as it.

Mapusaurus was in the top three of the Carcharodontosaurids. It may have been the biggest; although new studies puts Giganotosaurus at 7,8 tons; and I've also read someone's comment saying Tyrannotitan was up to 8 tons along with mentioning the new Giganotosaurus study
@@grebnedu1219 my consensus is they were all roughly the same same size. 40-45 ft and 6-8 tons. The truth is that we just don’t have enough yet. There could be potentially even bigger ones.
Its skull seems to similar to Carcharodontosaurus in this documentary series. Carcharodontosaurus saharicus had a skull shaped more similarly to Acrocanthosaurus and Concavenator compared to the Giganotosaurinii.
@a pimp named Mdot that's true but Carcharodontosaurus having a similar skull to the first party rather than the latter is substantial. It would result in a significantly larger size of the animal.
They’re all Carcharodontosaurids, meaning Carcharodontosaurus saharicus (normal Carcharodontosaurus) would share its skull with many other Carcharodontosauroids like Acrocanthosaurus atokensis.
The only thing scarier than a Mega Theropod is a Mega Theropod that hunted in packs. Assuming the pack hunting hypothesis is correct Mapusaurus is arguably the most dangerous predatory Dinosaur of all time.

Think less wolf and more crocodile when it comes to pack hunting in apex carnivores. Notice how the one Mapusaurus snapped at another Mapusaurus while it grazed a piece of flesh in its mouth? They're not tight family structures, but rather like crocodiles feeding on buffalo.

I’ve actually read in a children’s book that Mapusaurus May have been larger than Giganotosaurus. Don’t think that’s true but seeing as they were once thought to be the same animal, Giganotosaurus may have been a direct ancestor

The 10m size estimate given in this show is actually from one of the smallest known specimens (the full paper mentioned multiple, 12+m and 13+m individuals found alongside it), so its a solid contender for the title of largest carcharodontosaur.

God I wanna see flesh grazing depicted again, such a brutal but interesting speculative behaviour. One of the best depictions of predatory dinosaurs I think I've seen. Shows them hunting, and scavenging, and in realistic group and even shows one get brutally killed.

Being a "flesh grazer" should be very handy when you hunt huge prey that you can not kill it directly, even in a group.
But I know it's a very risky business to hunt in the heart of the herd because if you're surrounded, you're dead.

Nah it is far more likely giant carcharodontodaurs went after smaller or subadult sauropods (not the hatchlings though, those are too small) and left something like an adult Argentinosaurus alone.

From what I can tell that Discovery was a Giganotosaurus (I may Be Completely wrong) but they used it to illustrate that there were predators large enough to challenge herbivores like argentinosaurus. Then they introduced mapusaurus and the discovery of them hunting in gangs (Mapusaurus was lighter but of a similar length to rex and a similar size to giga. although a bit smaller as far as I know). Still Inaccurate after scotty though (At least mass wise, length wise I'm not sure but giga may be slightly longer)

Hey...I'll just walk slowly and very obviously toward herbivores more than 5 time my weight. Anything similar in the savannah ends in a lion being trampled XD . Allosauroods like carcharodontosaurids, metricanthosaurids and allosaurids filled the ecological niche of sauropod hunters. If they didn’t exist they’de be too many sauropods and then not enough plants for the other herbivores. Allosauroids keep the sauropod population down
