Super comprehensive and easy to follow instructions. Got me through diagnosing and fixing the problems I was having with the rear windows of my Series 2 VE. Thanks so much! Liked and subbed :)
@GlensGraphix Thanks Glen, wonder if it may be some ‘anti-spam’ feature because I posted 2 videos at the same time. Thanks for being here as always Glen 👍. Glad to see you back posting art.
Hello. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One thing that confused and frustrated me... I could hear the motor in door 'clicking', which I thought meant that the problem wasn't electric. But my mechanic attached a power source to the regulator plug, and the window moved! So it WAS an electrical fault. I'm currently trying to find it now with my multimeter. But that was frustrating.
@Duane Bonney The clicking is a relay or controller which I actually think is on the body not the door, but sounds like the door. I’d be looking for a broken wire in the gap between the door and the car body, pull back the black rubber over the wires and see if anything is broken there. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@BrowneysGarage I put my ear to the door, and it sounded like it was coming from there, but you may be right. The funny thing is, everything is now working fine. If it fails again, i'll check that section. But for now, i'm moving on. I've spent too much time on this! She's an old girl, that has served me well. So i'm not surprised things like this happen. Thanks again for your reply. It's people like you that make the world a better place.
@Duane Bonney Can completely relate to everything you’ve mate, been there. Stepping away from the job is probably good anyway, normally means when I go back I found the issue immediately! 😂 All sounding like a wire issue I’ve had before though, comes and goes then eventually it had nothing, could be something else but hope for your sake it just doesn’t come back! No problem mate, glad to help where I can 👍. All the best
Browney's Garage thanks mate. So where was your issue located? Between the door and body? Because your issue on the vid was the same as mine. I didn’t hear you mention your fix...
Great video but do you know where the ve commodore power window control module location is please. I don't want to remove the dash to find it not there
Love you simple clear videos on how these problems can be fixed. I took a punt that our VE wagon left rear window actuator motor failed so tried replacing it but quickly found out that wasn't the issue! So the window will go up from both the master switch and door switch, but not down on either. I assume the next step is replace the master switch. Is the rear door switch reliant on the master switch to work??
Hey bro, thanks for the vid. What would you say if both front windows required morse code for them to go down? I have replaced the main switch (VY) and no luck however, i should have watched this first to do checks. Cheers!
Brilliant video. Passenger side window stuck at fully closed.I’ve got 12v power at switch terminal and at the passenger door side I’m getting 12v on both pins.. it stays at 12v regardless if I press the switch on/off. Does this indicate motor?
If no change in the voltage going to the motor (I think I'm understanding that correctly?) when you push the switch I'd be thinking switch is the issue. Motor sounds like it's not working because it's not getting a complete circuit/signal (a power and a ground) to do so. Good luck mate
This makes sense mate thank you. Mind, I tried my “good switch” from opposite side and it didn’t work. Ordered a new switch anyway so let’s see what happens next. Awesome video, once again thanks for sharing the knowledge 🤟🏽
@@Goopsta Wait you said good switch from the other side, is this a rear window? Is it working from the main switch up front? If not I'd be looking at that main switch, not the rear single switch for that side.
Hi! What would you suggest if the master switch works for the front two windows completely and allows the back two to go down, but the back 2 won’t go up? If the go down, I need to get into the back seat and use those switches. Thanks! Scarlett, from Melbourne
Hi Scarlett. Sounds like the master switch is the issue to me - remember, I'm a hack too though! Rear switch working proves the motors are ok, may just be that the buttons for up on both those rears are no longer sending signal from the front. May be dirty contacts on these buttons or something simple but from what I could see taking an old switch apart to clean these isn't really possible, may have to replace. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.
Great video, Very comprehensive. Just had a question about my situation. The master switch works for every window except the rear driver side window. Although the master can lower that window but cannot raise it. The switch on the door itself works fine. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what would be broken in that situation and how to fix it. Thanks very much if you have any idea.
Definitely sounds like a master switch issue, could perhaps be a broken wire for just that up signal but I’m not sure if that’s possible with it working on the door still. Unfortunately from what I’ve seen pulling one apart they aren’t particularly serviceable, at least for someone like me! It may just be a dry solder joint or may be something worse but as I say, I’m not sure just how serviceable it is sorry, new MAY be the only real option.
hey browney. My rear window works fine up and down from its own switch on the door. However using the central controller, the rear window will go down but i can't bring it back up. Any advice?
@Carlo Hey Carlo, doesn’t sound like a broken wire or anything, sounds more typical of your ‘central controller’ showing signs of being on the way out. May be a bad contact or something in the switch if it’s a more serviceable unit, if it’s for a VE my experience was that it would be exceptionally difficult to dissemble and fix without damage and better just to replace unfortunately.
Alright so all my windows stopped working at the same time. None of the switches work, however when trying to operate the fronts, you get a rapid clicking (almost like a machine gun) and occasionally the windows will work for 2 or 3 seconds before stopping again. If the windows are working intermittently, would that mean theirs an issue with the power delivery from the battery to the switches/regulators?
Check for power to the master switch? Stab in the dark but have a look at your fuses or the relay for this system, believe it's behind the drivers kick panel somewhere.
Good work with you vids bud, enjoying your vids during lockdown in the UK. Sorry to be petty here but your checking for continuity not "continuesy". There is also the possibility that a multimeter will show potential difference (Voltage) as expected but as you're not loading the circuit, it may still not work correctly. It's best to do another sanity check with a load such as a halogen type test bulb (not an LED) as you may still get the same problem as the multimeter since they don't put much load on the circuit. Also, since the window switch is acting as a h-bridge to reverse polarity to the motor to reverse the motor direction, at least the halogen bulb should illuminate when the switch is trying to operate the window up or down unlike an LED which will likely be polarity sensitive (if you just have a 2 wire connector at the motor end). I've seen it at my previous job as a mechanic and Diagnose Dan had a good video showing this misdiagnosis with a cooling fan fault.
All sounds like good points, thanks mate... except the continuity one, you know what I meant! Happy to learn from those with more knowledge and experience than me though, not that that's hard. Thanks for watching mate 👍
Mate i bought a new center console master unit because 2 of the switches were snapped and now i cant get any of the windows to wind down now that i have replaced the unit. Has power and im pretty sure the fuses are fine as have tried others. Any ideas?
Haven't poked around behind the center console or traced the wiring far enough to say sorry mate. Didn't have to remove any earths that may not have been replaced? Trace how far you're getting power to narrow it down and go from there I guess.
In case you didn't know if you are at a hungry hacks drive through and need your window down and find yourself pressing button flat out just press button and continue holding it down for a few seconds and it will enable window safety feature and wind down I one go , I do it until I fix windows but for now it's just a few seconds held down and window goes down lol
What if all four windows aren't working, they're all stopped working, then there was a glimpse of 30 minutes where they did work (all of them) now all of them don't work. Does it mean I have to get four new power windows
Hey Carlos, couldn't say off the top of my head but if you open the fuse panel in the engine bay there will be a diagram with them labelled. Good luck 👍
I'm just a backyard hack so don't have the best gauge on this. But eBay has the part for anywhere from $120-$190 (genuine would be more and likely used), plus an hour or 2 max for diagnosing and replacing so maybe seems a little high, not completely out there though.
Fun fact: If you don’t like and subscribe the chances of someone in an AU stealing your girl increases by 78%.
