    The best dog I ever owned was a Scottie. I had him for 12 3/4 years before passing of cancer. He was excellent with my children as they came along. He was literally my "first" child. I still miss him!

      Will you get another one

    • @marisurratt1282
      @marisurratt1282 2 года назад

      @@dbt3477 in a heartbeat I would. He was not a cuddly dog but would contentedly lay by my side or at my feet. He loved to ride in the car and would allow no stranger to reach inside. He was very protective that way. He'd allow no one in the house unless I let them in. Once introduced he accepted my friends as his friends. He even learned the sounds from car engines and knew when friends were visiting and wouldn't bark at them, but let a "strange" sounding engine enter the property he'd bark to let me know someone was there. Extremely intelligent. A little touch to housebreaking but once he got the idea there was never an accident. I went out of town one day, got caught in a blizzard and couldn't get home for 48 hours. He didn't have a single "potty" accident while I was gone but he about ran me down when I came home in his rush to get out of the door. The breed doesn't shed which is a definite plus but does require grooming every 10 to 12 weeks. He had no health issues until getting cancer at 12 years of age. I highly recommend the breed.

    I am from Scotland and, as well as The West Highland Terrier, The Scottish Terrier is seen as a national treasure. It's great to see someone who has taken on breeding and showing these dogs whilst still keeping within the traditional standards of appearance. This guy seems like a very educated and responsible owner/breeder/exhibitor. Great video, thanks!

    I have a Scotty who is my Assistance dog, I am a disabled veteran with serious mental health issues. They make great Assistance dogs. Abbie goes everywhere with me, hospital, shopping. She has given me the confidence to go out on my own again. She reacts to my flashbacks, nightmares too.. if I go to the floor she lies with me nuzzling my face, if I have a nightmare she wakes me and comforts me. My best friend.

      The Goththing :) So happy you have her and that you’re seeing so much improvement. God Bless you for your service also! Did you have to have her specially trained or was it just instinctive behavior? Was asking because I have some health issues of my own and am now looking at a Scottie for companionship and support.

    • @thegoththing2234
      @thegoththing2234 4 года назад

      TRUTHs Handmaid mostly it is instinctive however they need obedience training before being signed off by the doctor. The hard part is stopping people from stroking her, even though she has a full harness on and working dog do not disturb down her leed. I never know quite what to say when people say thank you for your service. Does not happen much in England. But thank you.

    • @angelaobryant1895

      The Goththing Oh your so very welcome! We owe a debt of gratitude to ALL of our veterans! I’m in America, but we love our British cousins across the pond. :) I’m so happy that your little dog is helping you and that you’re seeing so much improvement with your health. And I can surely see how the people issue could be a problem for both the dog and you, considering your health issues. Remember to take things one day at time and never give up cause we have so much left to live for. And thank you so much for your info about this. I’m looking into obedience training now and looking for the right dog also. I'm sure the rules and regs may be a little different here but I'm starting my journey learning about it all now. Hopefully I’ll have the same level of success that your seeing. God Bless! - 🐕 ❤️

    Great video. But on swimming, our two Scotties love swimming in lakes and rivers, and they are rarely on leash and are very polite and respectful to other dogs. As you say, though, they are not shy in confronting a rude dog, regardless of size, and they are remarkable for how they treat big dogs as equal peers.

    I have had scotties all my life, starting when I was about 8. I love them so much, they are the most beautiful dogs, and they have so much personality. My current Scottie is Maggie, she is 10 years old and she is still going strong. She's great with kids, gentle and loves to play, she's best friends with my tabby cat. But she's no pushover, and has killed some possums that have gotten in our backyard. I hope to have many more Scottish Terriers dogs in the future.

    My scottie weighs 12.5 kg (27.5) pounds and he is not overweight he is super agile and runs like it is no one's business as we have a very big back yard. Very nice video but I must say I think our scotties in South-Africa are a bit more muscular because the video says 10 kg's for males and my previous scottie was a beast weighing in at 15kg ( 33 pounds ) and he was also not overweight super agile loved to play outside whole day long. Sadly he passed away due to the tumors they get sometimes from the inside. Our vet also said he was in excellent condition except for the tumor part. Thanks for the video really liked it a lot

    I currently have 18 month old Westie and am very interested in having a Scottie in the future. I know quite a few people that have at least one of each.

    My mother inlaw had one, he was fantastic and a rather unique gentleman, never met such an intelligent dog...He was very special since as an adult dog he got BFF with my bunny. I will never forget any of them..(.And no we did not set them together to begin with), but a thief did when we was out. The two was hudled together, C..acted very protective and the bunny was not afraid of C. that behavior was unusual, normally K... had normal run away instincts to dogs but never to this one.

    We had a Scottish terrier named McDuff aka Mac. He was a good dog, but he hated me!!!! I took away his attention and, yes, he was very loyal to my Grandpa. What Grandpa said went, he didn't DARE disobey him!!!!! I miss that dog very much!!!!!1❤😪

    It' funny; my wife and I encountered our first Scotty thirty years ago when we were dating. We stopped to pet a Scotty we met on the street being walked by an old fellow. We've been hooked ever since. Scotties are the quintessential dog breed. You have to deal with them on their terms. In that way they are like wild animals and are pure in soul and spirit. They carry us back to ancient days when men and wolves first collaborated to survive. They will fight any illness or foe and never quit. They will give their life without hesitation to protect their family.
