    You are amazing and you really know your trade. I've had scotties since 1980. My present one, Olivia, turned 13 last Saturday. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Every time I find someone who can do a Scot like you have Annie, I'm in awe of you. I stopped showing many years ago. Today it's very difficult to have any terrier done in this part of the world. Thank you for giving us all such a wonderful lesson. ♥

    Correct way to do a working scotie is to strip them not cut them cuting them makes there coats soft so when they are hunting rats and other vermin they cannot bite the scottie fur is like wire then and it protects the dog

    • @kathleenbell48

      Many Scottie pets don't require hand stripping because they are not working dogs or show dogs. A lot of owners (me included) like their Scotties soft.

    Soooo, my 6 month old Scotty has come home from her second attempted grooming with a buzz cut on her body, un cut head and a bleeding groomer... not sure what to do exactly? The weird thing is that she is a lovely dog otherwise.

    • @grandestyledoggrooming

      There are many things that you can do. Start brushing the puppy daily, on a table or surface with a non slip bath mat under the dog. Buy an Artero Pin brush and a poodle comb. Brush and comb every day gently and quietly. No reprimands. Teach the dog that table time is a happy time. This will make a difference.

    So Suzanne, when you have a puppy like this being groomed for the first time and she doesn’t wig out, is it OK to give a treat when you stop? Maybe ask the owner to bring a few of her favorite treats the first couple of times so there is no risk of giving her something she shouldn’t have. I’m interested in your reply from a training perspective. Is there a downside to doing it? Thank You.

    • @grandestyledoggrooming
      @grandestyledoggrooming  3 года назад +1

      If the owners provide treats, then yes a food motivated dog benefits. Personally, I rely on pressure and release, and praise for the training in the salon. The pressure and release is the same as used in horse training. Stay firm and steady during resistance. Soften and reward for relaxation.

    Do you have to clip your Scottish Terrier's coat ? I prefer the natural look, not the sculpted traditional look. Would it be okay just to brush the dog every week ? I like the shaggy wiry haired look.

    • @grandestyledoggrooming
      @grandestyledoggrooming  3 года назад +1

      Nothing wrong with that, as long as it is kept tangle free.

    I"m self taught and only clip my own Scotties, after 30+ years I'm not the worst, and better than some. What type of clipper head are you using to "mow down" the first coat?

      @@grandestyledoggrooming She is currently a 20.6 lb Scottie who just turned 1 year old. I live in Orange County, California, but my parents are in the Orlando area with friends in Tampa.
      I shared your video with our current groomer, but they still seem to leave the base of the tail narrower than the rest of it, which looks a bit odd.
      I bought some clippers myself and am working up the courage to try and do the carrot tail (and sanitary areas) myself for now.

    • @grandestyledoggrooming

      If it is done with a longer blade, and carded, the coat can remain in decent condition. Many pet terriers are groomed to breed profile. As a matter of fact, I received an A+ on my breed profile Scotty groom for my Masters Certification with the National Dog Groomers Association. If an owner is willing to maintain a stripped coat, I am happy to groom the dog. It’s up to them.
      Also I asked some industry icons like Barbara Bird and Jennifer Bishop Jenkins if I should demonstrate these breed profile grooms, or only breed standard. They both said yes, please demonstrate these types of grooms.
