That first speech sounds like a teacher talking to the class right after winter break

Sunak is so much more likeable as leader of the opposition lol

Probably because he doesn't have to deal with the baggage that was left by his four previous predecessors. As PM, he had to advocate his agenda while also saying he was different than his predecessors while also defending the role he played in Boris Johnson's government.

He's the interim LoP...will be contested by Hard Roasters like Braverman or Tulsi Patel and other 4 challengers to get the Top Tory position. Sunak himself realises, he is not cut out for this... He was comfortable in his own skin as a cabinet member, or shadow cabinet but not the leadership roles.

Power corrupts, let’s hope Keir’s morality has a little more backbone

Sunak seemed more gracious than Starmer. He was a gentleman in his speech. Though I don't like Sunak or his party, and I'm a foreigner, some of Starmer's remarks came across as twisting the knife and dancing on the Tories' defeat. Still, from what I've seen, the tone in the Commons has been much more civil.

37:53 "I now call the leader of the opposition ijjy zuna..." - the Speaker must really like him. ;)
Then compare to how he introduces Keir Starmer at 56:53
And then at 2:06:11 he calls John McDonnell John McDonald!

The speaker was always a partisan role, neutral only on paper. It's just that the last one happened to have a falling out with his own party after he became speaker, making him a remarkably impartial referee. Much more so, at least, than most of the speakers before and after him.

It is wrong of Starmer to treat the illegality of the referendum as respectable, acceptable and binding.

I don't love John McDonnell, but he clearly actually cares about workers and poverty. His speech at 2:06:10 stands out here as eminently reasonable and yet meaningfully progressive. The two child benefit cap must be scrapped!
