Nice work on the skimmer! Fabulous.
Nice structure but by not using gravity drain you are macerating the waste before the filter making it much harder to pull out of the water. A nice 200 stainless mesh filled with sand will polish up that water in a few hours if the waste is not macerated into fine particulates by pumps.

Been going on some for time about taking the hole size up in the bottom of my skimmer but I run it at only 4000L and its just one of them jobs I never get round to but I must do it mite even be able to slow the pump some more after. Was on to a Channel on hear the other day about a over the wall retro bottom drain and the problems bleeding it and air locks it can cause all sorts of problems. Happy ponding
Hi martyn yea it was worth doing and I also now have my pressure pipe fitted as the cheap corrugated ones always seem to spring leaks as they become brittle and perish
Yea was a sod to bleed so ended up doing it the other way still nice to have the pump out of the pond 👍🏼👍🏼
Less stuff like that in the pond the better will have to get round to doing the 1.5 inch tank fitting in the bottom of my skimmer its well over due

A skimmer makes all the difference to the enjoyment of a pond, my first pond never had one, and certain times of the year looked terrible.
Agreed it transforms the water I have found and now the shower is attached that should help 👍🏼
Hi,could you not put a one way valve on the pipe that way the pump will always have water inside and will prime automatically.
Hi mate good idea could have tried a valve in front of the exit of the pond I had a nightmare bleeding it
The way I did it in the end it pulled straight through

fit a non return valve before the pump so every time you switch it off it should stay purged
Yea could have tried that as I had a nightmare getting the air out not even sure if it was all out to be honest

Great to see you have increased the pipe bore on the skimmer.
A heads up on pipe size and flowrate, with a shower its better to make the spraybar out of a larger diameter pipe to prolong the life of the pump due to back pressure. Also try to keep the same diameter pipework (aside from shower spraybar) as any smaller fitting or pipe to the rest makes the larger pipework irrelevant.
So make sure you change that other section of pipework on the skimmer/shower pipe run as it will be notably better.
Oh and if you add a full bore none return valve between the pump and skimmer it should keep the pump primed when you switch it off.

@@jiffsterkoi on older pumps with no display you don't give it a second thought but as soon as you can see the wattage you want to make it lower but get more water though it 🤣
