Yes. It is creepy. Especially when none of the machinery is on. Dead silence and darkness is amplified in a ship. When you're alone, you feel alone.

Is it realistic for the ship to be locked down like this for weather? Like having the doors locked? It seems like itd be a pretty big safety hazard in any titanic-like event

    • @jchan2299
      @jchan2299 7 месяцев назад +119

@@kaleighconard6459 correct. It wouldn't happen. Not even warships have this sort of system.... Except maybe submarines. Only thing ships would have are sensors to alert if a door is opened. There's a lot that could be nitpicked over with the game. But they did a decent job. The only thing that really stands out is the size of the crew. A normal cargo ship of this size would have a max crew of about 20. There's closer to 200 in this game.

Your comment made me think of this lady, Sunny, from The View. She always plays the race card and talks about reparations. She did one of those DNA heritage test things. It came up that she was part white European, and her black lineage was directly involved in the slave trade by buying and selling them. The look on her face was priceless.

One particular thing about the portuguese: if a slave had a child from their "master", the kud would automatically be portuguese (not slave).
Also.. Do you know who captured and sold the slaves to the portuguese in the first place? The king of M'banza-Kongo.
Anyway, imagine putting yourself into a little wood thing with sails and go into what people said it was "the end of the world'" ... Then come across it and find each trip something new and hearing stories about the sea-monsters that sunk other shios and swole entire crews.
We really wanted a discount on spices!

This was a good one. I agree that the story definitely wasn’t complete at the end though so that was weird. No explanation of the random spider (even though it was a good creepy and gross touch), no deeper explanation about the missing Father and the artifact he sent for his son/daughter, and no explanation about the Dr. who was randomly picked up and the captain was being weird about. I don’t know why these games never wrap up their stories. Could you imagine if big studios wrote like this? But the game itself and the atmosphere were good. My partner and I love ending the day with one of your videos. You always make us laugh between what you say and your reactions to the scary stuff, haha. I will say the layout of most ships I go on are pretty universal and this game makes little sense in that manner, of the layout anyhow, but it's not hard to get lost, and the ships make noises and such all the time, equipment coming online and back off again, sometimes it's just the skeleton crew walking through the lower or upper layers, but yeah definitely watching this will change the way I think about the liminal spaces I end up going through on these ships.

To answer your question: No, in real life containerships arent really this monstrously scary. Matter of fact: anyone working on one will tell you the layout of this ship makes absolutely NO sense. There arent this many rooms, corridors etcetere. In RL it's the superstructure + engine room. The rest of it is cargospace where you cant easilly get into + a small paint or mechanics room somewhere. This ship has waaay to many rooms in places that should just be boring empty cargo space.
Also: a typical crew on a large container vessel consists of maybe 20+ people, not like a hundred. The ship in this game also seems to be a bulk carrier, yet there are loose containers strapped on the deck.
None of this ships layout makes any sense. A cargo ship looks big, but the actual living space is quite small. It's all about the cargo. Think of is as a very, very large truck.
It's a fantastical video game ship.

My only complaint about this game, right off the bat, is that you are in a storm, at night, exploring an apparently abandoned ship...
And your character doesn't bring a flashlight. I can't fathom that.

games should have more ingame voice interactions, similar to Phasmophobia, imagining Fooster saying "Hello" and a voice replying with saying "no", or any other messed up lines that could freak people more off.

Ships can be a little rusty but that’s normally on the outside. The crew tend to keep the ship in pretty decent condition as it’s not just a work place but a home for you and your colleagues for months on end.
My personal experience at sea as an engineer shows that it’s honestly a good time and tend to be pretty clean due to regulations about living conditions.

49:00 As a ham radio enthousiast, I can confirm that meteorological conditions, ionospheric conditions, solar flares, condition and type of antenna all have an influence on radio signals, causing situations where you can hear the other person but they cannot hear you and viceversa. Transmitting on my inverted v dipole, I can be heard all the way in Europe from here in Ecuador, but sometimes I can't hear the other person because of my antenna not quite being in the right position to capture the signal properly.

As someone who's name is Simon, I'm glad you're the person who is searching the ship and not me😂
I just got to the part where he says, "Where's Simon?" And all I'm thinking is he's taking his time talking to people, maybe even having a snack😂

You wouldn’t be able to stand next to those engines without ear protection if they were that size.
The ones on the big dredges I work on are decent sized and you are required to wear hearing protection as prolonged exposure can cause major hearing damage.

Working in the death care industry, I can tell you that these people have recently been killed. Decomposition happens immediately after death, once the metabolism is no longer functioning the enzymes start eating the body. Theres no way these bodies would be this pristine unless there were freezing temps or died recently (Less than 2 days) . However, those headless ones are decomposing at a pretty surprising rate (Slower than usual), if there were freezing temps those flys wouldn't be around unless the lower ship is warmer and why are there only flys on the headless ones, they must've been dead longer which would make the other bodies dead for just a couple hours. 🤔

I think a video like this is a great vehicle of opportunity for having a special guest commentary from a skill expert? If Fooster was in a VTuber character on one side of the screen, and the expert was on webcam on the other side of the screen, and the game was playing in the middle on a muted volume, I'd love to hear the expert talk about ship stuff while reacting to the monsters! I think we could call this segment "After The Game with _____".

I both love and hate that kind of game. I love how the developpers know how to build a disturbing environment that build up stress and overwork the mind. I hate it for the same argument as I easily get terrified of those situation because my imagination is for some reason making thing scarier than they are suppose to be when I can't see. One of the reason I have talassohphobia.

This was great and as I used to work on large ships like that...I can tell you that those sounds in the ship thay sounds like something in the wall is actually kind of real. The ship flexes in the sea and as the metals a stressed they make noises. It is scary and when the ship goes dark. All you have is red lights in certain sections to not bothers those who are trying to sleep.
