At least you're playing on normal mode. We pressured a friend into playing it on hard mode. She was so terrified that we were in discord with her, guiding her, and encouraging her to get out of the lockers. In her WHOLE game play she hid a total of 300-400 times in the lockers freaking.
Props to your friend for going through with it. Hard difficulty is the proper way to experience this game. On normal difficulty the Alien will not search for you in vents unless you attract it.
I noticed you turned off the music, you should turn it back on if and or when you play again. it really, really helps with the immersion. It enhances the experience dramatically.
This game is 10 years old at this point. 10. YEARS. And yet it's genuinely so much better than most AAA games released today. Whether it's in terms of gameplay, graphics, ambience, optimization, everything. You know what games are 10 years apart? Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. The ORIGINAL. The gaming industry is so incredibly broken it's just straight up sad honestly
FOOSTER! Don't forget to update your map at the glowing wall terminals! They look like angled white glowing panels waist high. This game took me 4 years to complete with multiple restarts. The anxiety was too much at times I thought I was gonna have a panic attack. 😂
Yup, over 2 years and still not finished it. When I started I was all gung-ho and played with headphones, at night, in the dark. That was all kinds of nope.
This exact thing happened to me at 1:12:33 on my first playthrough. I swear I've watched many lets play and first playthrough videos of this game and never found someone that had the alien drop here. Thanks for not making me feel alone.
You're safe in that area until the transit car is about to arrive, then the alien can drop if you make noise. Fooster ran for a split second at exactly the moment it was possible for the alien to drop.
Yup. Two conditions cause him to appear early there which are making too much noise (which is faster) and taking too long to get to the transit; which is what Foos did. If you take too long, he appears regardless and automatically homes in on your location.
Alien is one of those games that's timeless, in both horror and graphics. You can get someone who has watched the movies to still jump while playing the game. Glad to see you play it!
Why would watching the movies make someone less susceptible to jump scares in a game that isn't based on any movie, it's not like we can see it coming lol tht doesn't make sense
@@thedevilsrockstxr2309 watching or having knowledge of the movie before, you know what the alien looks like. Even when you are expecting the alien’s appearance, it can still get people to jump. What I’m saying is, the game can scare still, even if you are expecting the horror
I tip my hat to you Fooster, in the 10 years I've enjoyed this game you have shown me something I never knew. I never realised that you could get the Alien to show up before the Tech Support vent cut scene, when I saw you get got by the Alien in the flight terminal transit area my jaw dropped I always thought it was scripted to just scare with the sound, so thank you for showing me something new with the game.
I like to mess with it for all the terror it's caused me, so whenever I get into a transit shuttle or elevator, I always bang around the inside to call the Xeno, and laugh as it drops and the door's already closing. A lot of "safe" areas are only safe if you don't bang around too much lol (Also, if you want to troll the Xeno as well, I recommend NOT banging around near the Comms elevator where you pick up the hacker. That vent is WAY closer than it seems...)
@@thefoosterchannel think it just wanted to say hello and welcome, but from what I saw you were doing well, its a game that crests and drops in places but well worth a full play through that adds if only a little something to the Alien universe.
I believe its a mechanic to push players who like to turtle up and move slowly. It waits for a while and then in the word of the Xeno 'fk it I want human' Kinda sucks if u spend time looking around for all items and lore as a new player
You keep walking past map updates and passing up opportunities to save the game. Always save when you can! Was fun watching you panic. You had about as many panic attacks playing this as I did. Loved this game. Just don’t recommend playing before bed. Really messes up your ability to sleep. Also programs your brain to scan every room you enter for hiding spots and places a xenomorph could jump out of.
You know, for someone who said they like to look around you missed so much stuff, lockers and cupboards with crafting items, maps etc it really was frustrating
You should turn the music on for this game. Not hearing Alien style music is absolutely criminal. It is also a little anticlimactic without it. Can't wait for a series of this!!
I realised some sound was missing when I didn’t hear what I call as the ‘heart beater’ sound when he calls for the first tram hoping the alien doesn’t appear, and the sudden sound effects of when the alien starts killing people in the main lobby of systech spire
@@VaciliNikoMavich thousands of people have played this game on RUclips none of them have been copyright struck. The music was all created specifically for the game and there’s no like licensed music by pop stars or anything

I remember playing an early version in VR. I remember getting pierced by the alien, and I actually felt a tingle in my chest as I looked down and saw I was toast. 😂
It was terrifying. Every time I got killed, there was a split second my brain forgot that I was perfectly safe at home and that nothing bad could happen.
Running makes enough noise to bring the alien out, that’s why you only run when it’s absolutely necessary…make sure to search all the bodies you see, and also red cooler looking boxes have stuff too even though they look small
Ah it's actually because it could easily see him under the gurney! It's got a line of sight after all. By this point it hasn't had time to learn much of anything yet.
I was here at the same time, but I went to put on a video to fall asleep to, and then clicked on one of his videos then realising it was 4am now and I accidently watched the whole video (I normally just click a random video to play to fall asleep to)
THIS GAME IS SO NOSTALGIC. it's one of the first games to truly scare me; i spent most of my time playing hiding in lockers lol such a good game all the way through. i agree with you about chases too. tension during a chase is my biggest weakness. i really hope you continue to play this!!!
One thing I always forget…Ripply records the message after the Nostromo explodes aboard the shuttle. If they “found the black box” it’s the shuttle one meaning the company found her first, pulled the info about the xeno and set her back to drift ofcourse.
The black box is the main ships, not her escape shuttle. Idea of a black box is it logs data and survives a crash/explosion, so you can assertain what caused the crash. So my understanding is it's the main Nostromo's balckbox
One of my biggest fears is being followed/chased so this game took me FOREVER to finish 😂 it’s definitely become one of my favorites and I’m so happy you’re finally playing it!
@@thefoosterchannel omg especially if the next task makes you backtrack to a previous area. There were times where I had to step away from the game for like 10 minutes because I just couldn’t take it anymore 😂
Alien Isolation is an underrated gem, the atmosphere is absolutely top notch, Sevastopol Station has such a sense of place, feels like a real lived in location, so much history, lore and environmental storytelling, the graphics are stunning, the Alien with its adaptable AI, learning and changing its behavior from your encounters, the entire game captures the vibe of the first Alien movie perfectly. One of my all time favorite games. 👏👏👏👏👏
Its great that you got attacked by the alien when waiting for the first tram! Its pretty rare, enough that its considered an easter egg that most people didn't know was possible. Its also something I really like because it subverts common game design. In basically every horror game of the last 20ish years, you have a safety period at the beginning of the game, where you are 100% safe no matter what because the game is still tutorializing you and slowly building up the threat, only after all this is done is there a clear "the game starts now" moment where you are finally in threat of the main monster. Its funny because everytime you watch someone play a horror game you always see them getting scared early on because most people haven't realized that the game won't put you into danger without teaching you how to get out of danger first, so they are getting scared for nothing. However, while this game DOES do this, there is a very clear "the alien is now a real threat" moment (well 2 actually, as the first one is slightly scripted, though still dangerous). But this one moment after the crazy guy dies and you have to wait for the tram is designed just like any other game, where its meant to put you on edge but is actually totally safe. But it subverts this by having a secret timer where if you take too long to get into the tram, the alien will be unleashed. Most people will get into the tram without noticing the alien, or hear the alien drop down right as they hit the button to close the tram door if they were slow, just barely missing the alien. While there is an invisible timer keeping the alien from attacking you, the timer can be bipassed if you make enough noise to call the alien early (which is what you did by running). This usually doesn't happen as first time players usually just stand around waiting. So basically, its awesome that this game is just willing to put you in a position of getting attacked by the alien way earlier than the tutorial for dealing with the alien! Its meant to be a moment that you never get attacked your first time and then feel safe there in future playthroughs, letting down your guard until you inevitably make too much noise and discover you were never really safe there all along. Its a very aggressive game that doesn't hold back, and that's why its one of the best! I hope I explained that well, I feel like the point of the subversion wasn't explained properly, but I'm bad at explaining things without using visuals.
This game was revolutionary at the time for its AI design. The creature is actually governed by two different systems, the creature itself and a kind of overwatch AI that tells the alien where to hunt, occasionally giving away the players general vicinity. So the alien might not know exactly where you're hiding but it's never too far away.
I'm sooooooo happy you're playing this! It is my favorite game to watch others play as I have never been able to make it past the loading screen. I'm even more happy it's you because you are my favorite youtuber to watch.
remember kids, its all up to rng if the alien always following you ontop of the map decides to phase into existence through any given vent in a room when you enter it
So glad to see isolation still getting the love it deserves- if any game is timeless, it’s this one. They really perfected the ai and aesthetic in it in a way that really makes it feel like you’re in danger, even when you rarely arent
I’ve watched this game played by so many different random people a few years back and I’ve enjoyed it every time. But being able to watch you play this, given how you’ve always made even the scarier games enjoyable to watch, I am happy to watch you play this one. Thank you! 😁❤️
You can run if on your tracker the alien is further than .96 removed. The tracker will give you a warning bleep when the alien is entering into your orbit again. I loved playing this game as well. It was so scary, and the design of the game psychologically impacts you to slow down. There was one point in the game where I dropped a soundmaker inside of a floor panel, making the alien crawl into the vent. And then I'd stand on top of the alien after reopening the panel. He'd scream and hiss, but his animation gets stuck if you do this, so you can just stand on his head without him attacking you. Hilarious! That cut the terror.
I’ve watched a few LPs of these, and yours is actually the first I’ve seen the alien appear right after killing Axel. Usually, it saves the first encounter for later. I wonder if your running triggered the attack.

I love that we share this love for this film franchise. I remember watching Aliens with my dad when I was a kid, and I was FASCINATED. Alien is genuinely one of my favorite movies. I was SWEATING the first time I played this, and I just could not get myself through it it scared me so much! 😂

Only found your channel a few days ago and binged your entire back catalogue since. Made it to this point but I cannot watch the game even though I know your reaction will be priceless. I traumatised myself with the original Alien when I was 7 on my own in the dark, I watched the entire movie through squinted eyes and my fingers in my ears. It took me 8 years before I was able to enter a dark room without having to reach around for the light first fully expecting to either have my arm grabbed or see the Xenomorph standing in the doorway 😂 I also had the honour of meeting H. R. Giger who gave me a personal tour of his museum in Austria and an in depth insight into his creations and inspirations for them, this didn't help. Still to this day THE GREATEST horror creature and story created by man. Lastly Fooster I'm pleased to say that you have quickly become my favourite RUclipsr, the unfiltered terror, the hilarious remarks, reactions, camaraderie with Fisk and sheer minerals to push through when every fiber is screaming no. A Fooster video has now literally become the highlight of my day to kick back with.
Love the content. I've noticed that you're experiencing an audio bug with the alien. If you cap your FPS to 90 or less, then this bug goes away and it will be 10x more immersive!
As a deaf person, despite this game heavily relying on sounds, it is my absolute favorite! I use a woojer strap when I play. It vibrates from sounds and changes vibrations accordingly. Nothing is more terrifying than feeling the slow increasing thump thump of the alien's footsteps as it gets closer to you. It is so much fun!
I went "OH SHIT" aloud when I saw that you posted this game lol. The fact that the alien learns and you can't rely on the same tactics to stay safe for too long...💀💀💀 I'm cheering for you(r heart), Fooster!!!

With that being said I’d like to put in my vote for more Alien Isolation! Soooooo gooood!
Fun fact btw fooster, idk if you know this, but the ai actually has 2 brains. One that knows where you are at all times, and one that doesn’t. The one that knows where you are slowly feeds info to the one that doesn’t. If you stay in place for too long, it will ALWAYS find you
Also the alien has 3 vision cones + blindspots. So depending on which vision cone detects you have less time to get out and break line of sight. If you're skilled enough and somewhat lucky you can move in it's blindspot.
@@minicle426 yes, it changes how often the mother brains drip feeds into to the other brain, changes how often the Alien will be on patrol. It also has a better sense of the player' objective. Even learns how to handle the user having flamethrower, instead of running away they will eventually hover just outside attack range
you know what would make this game worse? if it used your mic to influence the alien, that would be so much worse because if you scream accidently it will know your location and you need to go asap

the Alien is programmed with two AI's one that knows where you are at all times on the map and another that doesn't and is in control of the Aliens body. The first tells the other where you are then when the second gets there it forgets and searches the area for you. pretty neat.
Ha! I just made a similar comment a bit ago. Didn't see your comment until now. The one that controls the xenomorph also learns how you play and adapts its style.

@@thefoosterchannel It's a bit frightening, but I forced myself to play it because its Alien! I never regretted it and its such a good story/game.
Holy crap the anxiety and fear in your voice is so genuine that it starts becoming scary for me who is only watching.
I rank this game as the best game in 15 years at least. Everything else is a copy of something else or just not as good.
A lot of "safe" areas are only safe if you don't bang around too much lol
(Also, if you want to troll the Xeno as well, I recommend NOT banging around near the Comms elevator where you pick up the hacker. That vent is WAY closer than it seems...)
Right!? I thought it was all smooth sailing up until the cutscene 😅
Lmao so it wasn’t even supposed to be there but with my luck it was 😂
@@thefoosterchannel think it just wanted to say hello and welcome, but from what I saw you were doing well, its a game that crests and drops in places but well worth a full play through that adds if only a little something to the Alien universe.
I believe its a mechanic to push players who like to turtle up and move slowly. It waits for a while and then in the word of the Xeno 'fk it I want human'
Kinda sucks if u spend time looking around for all items and lore as a new player
This is one of the best games ever made in my opinion. Please make this a series.
That's what Dead Space did to me. The most abnormal nightmares I've ever experienced.
And the books...the books where SO MUCH WORSE.
😂
You know, for someone who said they like to look around you missed so much stuff, lockers and cupboards with crafting items, maps etc it really was frustrating
Yes, take in the sights while murderous synthetics and one highly aggressive Xenomorph that will un-alive you on sight is running around.

The Working Joe's do it too. But you obviously know they are androids. 😊

One thing I always forget…Ripply records the message after the Nostromo explodes aboard the shuttle. If they “found the black box” it’s the shuttle one meaning the company found her first, pulled the info about the xeno and set her back to drift ofcourse.
Great theory.
The black box is the main ships, not her escape shuttle. Idea of a black box is it logs data and survives a crash/explosion, so you can assertain what caused the crash. So my understanding is it's the main Nostromo's balckbox

Lots of words
This game was revolutionary at the time for its AI design. The creature is actually governed by two different systems, the creature itself and a kind of overwatch AI that tells the alien where to hunt, occasionally giving away the players general vicinity. So the alien might not know exactly where you're hiding but it's never too far away.
I was actually really hoping you'd play this game mate but with it being out so long I wasn't sure if you would delighted 😊❤

Fooster, I have played the hell out of this game. My favorite game of all time. NEVER RUN UNLESS YOU WANT THE ALIEN TO HEAR YOU.
Good luck

I traumatised myself with the original Alien when I was 7 on my own in the dark, I watched the entire movie through squinted eyes and my fingers in my ears.
It took me 8 years before I was able to enter a dark room without having to reach around for the light first fully expecting to either have my arm grabbed or see the Xenomorph standing in the doorway 😂
I also had the honour of meeting H. R. Giger who gave me a personal tour of his museum in Austria and an in depth insight into his creations and inspirations for them, this didn't help.

Fun fact btw fooster, idk if you know this, but the ai actually has 2 brains. One that knows where you are at all times, and one that doesn’t. The one that knows where you are slowly feeds info to the one that doesn’t. If you stay in place for too long, it will ALWAYS find you
Also, if you get though too much of the game without being seen, it will spawn a second xeno.
+ it has machine learning. the more "close encounters" you have the more it will start look in lockers/hidng places.
Also the alien has 3 vision cones + blindspots.
So depending on which vision cone detects you have less time to get out and break line of sight. If you're skilled enough and somewhat lucky you can move in it's blindspot.
@@Haelda Doesn't the difficulty settings also affect how it works?
