USO 1981 SF - McEnroe vs Gerulaitis (Part 1)

For the first 14 minutes there is no sound. Around 9 to 14 minutes in you may hear a random siren noise, not sure why. Picture glitches at times. Vitas serving at 0-0. Part 2 is a lot better with a good court level angle and some commentary.

When this was broadcast in Australia live, a lot of the telecast had no sound. I remember it well. I was 14 and recording this match on VHS. So I had nearly 5 sets without sound! The sound came on occassionally. But effectively, ruined it for me. Such a great clash too!

Très belle 1/2 finale avec un Mac au sommet et Vitas qui revient au 1er plan... Tout aurait pu être différent si Vitas avait gagné : Borg aurait gagné l'US Open ! Il aurait sans doute continué sa carrière et Vitas n'aurait pas pu joué sa mémorable finale contre Lendl car c'est grâce à la défection de Borg qu'il participa aux Masters en janvier 1982
