Ma Long on the other hand, have by far the easiest time disarming Calderano, of all the 6 matches they played each other, Calderano was able to win only 2 sets!! There is no other player who consistently disarmed Calderano like Ma Long(not even wang chuqin who won the last three matches with a 3X2 score against Calderano, nor Fan Zhendong who lost 4x2 against Calderano this year )

Hugo had so wrong strategy against ML. That's why I have been saying he needs to hire a Chinese coach. Hugo's current basic strategy is underspin service, and then turn underspin to up spin loop. It works well for most of opponents but it doesn't quite work with ML since ML has better within the table control. Just watch how Patrick Franciska and Li Sangsu beat ML in recent matches: they push long or serve long up/side spin to force ML to open the rally then beat ML in the rally. ML is old and can't keep rallying all the way through at 3 games. You can ML doesn't rally with Hugo at all. ML tried to finish a point with one loop cuz if he tries to rally with Hugo, Hugo will win the point.

How much RP he loses are determined by the difference of the RP between the contesting athletes AND the Security Rate Points (SRP) of the losing athlete. 5)SRP is a number between 0% - 100%. It represents the Security or probability with which the athlete will beat a lower ranked athlete. 6)The higher(lower) your SRP the the less(more) RP you lose when losing to a lower ranked athletes (and vice verca). 7)Athletes win SRP by defeating lower ranked athletes. 8)The bigger the difference in RP the more SRP the winner gains. 9)Athletes lose SRP by losing to higher ranked athletes. 10)The smaller the difference in RP between the contesting athletes the more SRP the loser looses. 11) The higher(lower) the RP of an athlete the less(more) SRP he will gain for defeating a lower ranked athlete (and vice versa). 12)When winning against a higher ranked athlete the athlete will get RP but his SRP will drop depending on how much RP he gained. Hugo has defeated Lin Shidong, Lin Gaoyuan, Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun and several others players from Chinese 2nd team. He just couldn't beat someone one who has unique variation like Ma Long.
He cannot defeat the top Chinese because he does not know how to adjust his play mid-match. He has one gear and he will try to continue like that until he wins. As long as he cannot adapt to the gameplay well, he will never be one of the elite players of the game. The greatest strength of champion players is their ability to read and adjust to the game.
That is the smartness of Ma Long: he knows how to make the opponent uncomfortable and unable to fully use its strength. The previous head coach Liu Guoliang once said: the difference between ML and Fan Zhendong is that ML can neutralize the opponent, while FZD just plays a straightforward power game.
