I mean, at a certain point, we had almost the opposite "problem" where only the old (things like ancient greek/roman poems, shakespeare, renaissance artists, classical era composers) were really respected and taken seriously, and critics scoffed at anything innovative and different, but it feels we've gone too far in the opposite direction we've become obsessed with the latest trends, something new and "modern". I mean, how do you even know something IS new and not a watered down rehash unless you've experienced what's come before?
The ending of this movie BROKE my heart so bad. The way De Niro decides to make one last stop instead of running away which gets him fucked in the end, and leaves eddy in the car. Felt so bad. He was the bad guy but he was also likeable.
I thought I was one of the only people who thought that was one of the saddest endings in film history. That one U turn he made...because of his unspoken promise to his dying friend. He was home free and Edy was so mellow and cool. That turn changed several lives in an instant. And Edy's look of fear confusion & sadness being left in the car...? (Gulp.) Haunting.

A great character, a tough man who prefers hunting street shit to a steady family, but is able to console mothers and children, and is an amazing shooter.

They should have had a scene showing Pacino's "Hanna" do a line or a bump at one point just to give the film some more depth. As it is his substance abuse problem goes over just about everyones head unless they read up further about the film and the characters origin. Plus it would have added more realism to the film and would have added more grey area to the good guy vs bad guy in the film. Still a great flick though.

Michael Mann's direction always had a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat even when a scene was a rudimentary conversation. To me, that is one of the hallmarks of his work: he's always finding ways to make you think even as you're SWEATING it under the circumstances. Love it. Same thing in "Collateral", btw.
I like Al Pachino, and he's a fantastic actor. The Godfather is proof of that. But when I think Al Pachino, I don't think of The Godfather, I think of Scarface and Heat. Why? Well because you can't keep your eyes off him. I don't want to say in Scarface and Heat he's very over the top, because in both films he has some very great scenes. But when you listen at how he swears in Scarface, and in Heat he's singing "Phoenix" and then there's this scene. 1:18 I can't help it, with those two films in particular, I can't help but just laugh at Al Pachino.

The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are more ensemble pieces where you focus more on the storyline and the individual characters. Al Pacino was amazing in those films but the story and the other actors were all great too, so he just played a part of what made those movies so great to begin with. However in a film like Scarface where Al Pacino is the centerpiece of that film, that film would be no where near as good if it weren’t for Al Pacino’s performance as Tony Montana.
I know there are some who say yelling Pacino is overacting or some bullshit but im here to tell you that that is some of his A+ grade acting Corleone is S+

The cafe was a real conversation almost word for word between McCauley and Chuck Adamson, Vincent had a coke habit in the original script and Pacino kept that in mind in his performance. The whole great ass part was Pacino in the moment and Hank Azaria was genuinely like what the hell.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of "Heat" for this comment. But IMO, this is Pacino's best performance. An LAPD Homicide Detective completely consumed by his career. He played the role perfectly. And De Niro wasn't too shabby either. But Taxi Driver was his best performance. Again, IMO

A great character study in duality. He is a psychotic, coke fueled hunter of course. But also a man who deeply cares if you hurt innocent people.

The cafe was a real conversation almost word for word between McCauley and Chuck Adamson, Vincent had a coke habit in the original script and Pacino kept that in mind in his performance. The whole great ass part was Pacino in the moment and Hank Azaria was genuinely like what the hell.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of "Heat" for this comment. But IMO, this is Pacino's best performance. An LAPD Homicide Detective completely consumed by his career. He played the role perfectly. And De Niro wasn't too shabby either. But Taxi Driver was his best performance. Again, IMO
