      @mm43501 It's such a soulless view of art imo, viewing it like technology that advances and becomes obsolete quickly.

    • @AllWordsAreDust
      @AllWordsAreDust 2 года назад +2

      @mm43501 I'm relatively young in my 20s, so maybe nothing's really changed, but it feels that people today lack respect for older things in a way that wasn't always true. I mean, at a certain point, we had almost the opposite "problem" where only the old (things like ancient greek/roman poems, shakespeare, renaissance artists, classical era composers) were really respected and taken seriously, and critics scoffed at anything innovative and different, but it feels we've gone too far in the opposite direction we've become obsessed with the latest trends, something new and "modern".
      I mean, how do you even know something IS new and not a watered down rehash unless you've experienced what's come before?

      They should have had a scene showing Pacino's "Hanna" do a line or a bump at one point just to give the film some more depth. As it is his substance abuse problem goes over just about everyones head unless they read up further about the film and the characters origin. Plus it would have added more realism to the film and would have added more grey area to the good guy vs bad guy in the film. Still a great flick though.

    Michael Mann's direction always had a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat even when a scene was a rudimentary conversation. To me, that is one of the hallmarks of his work: he's always finding ways to make you think even as you're SWEATING it under the circumstances. Love it.
    Same thing in "Collateral", btw.

    I like Al Pachino, and he's a fantastic actor. The Godfather is proof of that. But when I think Al Pachino, I don't think of The Godfather, I think of Scarface and Heat. Why? Well because you can't keep your eyes off him. I don't want to say in Scarface and Heat he's very over the top, because in both films he has some very great scenes. But when you listen at how he swears in Scarface, and in Heat he's singing "Phoenix" and then there's this scene. 1:18

      The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are more ensemble pieces where you focus more on the storyline and the individual characters. Al Pacino was amazing in those films but the story and the other actors were all great too, so he just played a part of what made those movies so great to begin with. However in a film like Scarface where Al Pacino is the centerpiece of that film, that film would be no where near as good if it weren’t for Al Pacino’s performance as Tony Montana.

      @@stavrosmayakofsky1915 he is admitting is but if you're still so thick you can't get clearer than this interview with The Guardian newspaper (Pacino's way name of article) where he admits hamming it up / overacting in roles too much and that directors should rein him in->
      "In some more recent roles, such as Scent of a Woman and The Devil's Advocate, he has hammed it up to great effect. His critics suggest that he's also hammed it up in his serious roles. He looks a little hurt when I mention it. "You can't call Shylock hammy," he protests. No, I say, but there are certain films ... "Yes, certain roles you go too far," he concedes. "Some-times-you-go-too-far," he says, syllable by syllable. "But part of what you hope to do is not censor yourself, and then find a way to pull back, and sometimes you don't censor yourself and you get caught off guard."
      He says it's the director's job to rein him in, and they don't always bother. "Sometimes it seems that directors just say, 'Give me more Pacino, more Pacino,'" I say. " Yeaaaaaah ," he roars. "That has happened, yes." "

    People might say that Day Lewis and Brando are better, but I don't care. Pacino is my favorite. Every movie he's in, he actuallys plays a different character, unlike someone like De Niro, who half the time is excellent but half the time he's playing Robert De Niro.

    The cafe was a real conversation almost word for word between McCauley and Chuck Adamson, Vincent had a coke habit in the original script and Pacino kept that in mind in his performance. The whole great ass part was Pacino in the moment and Hank Azaria was genuinely like what the hell.
