Thankyou so much for your video. I had just changed the belt last year but have forgotten how to do it the right way and my backs out today. So I didn't want to have to move the washer anymore thrn I had to. This has helped me a great deal thank you. 🙂👍
My Maytag washer LA712 was making a squealing noise and smelled like burnt rubber. Both pulleys spun freely. I think it’s the belts since they have never been changed and it is a 1980’s model. Belts ordered and should be here in a couple of days. Got my fingers crossed replacing them will fix the problem. Thanks!
Very helpful video for these old style washers. We took a look in between the basket for any lost socks, and having a strong flashlight inside through the perforated tub holes helps, too. Our problem came out to be the plastic cover on the motor, of all things, was mounted too low to allow the full ,free back and forth movement on the belts. we are replacing the belts anyway, but still are saving a ton of money on just few inexpensive OEM replacement parts on ebay and some 'elbow grease'. Thank you.
This was awesome super simple the thing was running like brand new I love it thank you so much I thought I had to take off the damn pulleys and stuff but because I had to replace one pulley but the pulleys are good so I just had to replace the belt and that was so freaking easy thank God
Scott, Great Video, I was just looking for a general search on Maytag Washer belts for a repair I'm doing (figured I'd get an idea) and it turns out you are using the same washer model I am working on. One thing though I was hoping to find a link to the belts in the description but that's just me.
I have a Maytag model A482 washer, needing a timer module. Cant locate replacement part. Can you help?…please. Thank you (bought new in 1985, never been worked on, timer is going, hate to dump this quality machine!
I have an old stackable washer n dryer and the washer starts to smell like burnt rubber and I cant seem to find a tutorial on my model or which belt to get for it
Thanks for the video, easy fix. The belts cost $21 at my local appliance repair shop but I had it right away. I wonder how much a service call to diagnose / fix the belts would have been?
Hi! Thanks for the video, our Maytag does agitate, but doesnt spin, what could be the problem? Although just noticed the transmission belt have some cracks already, just waiting for the replacement belts
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel thanks for the reply. I was able to changed the belts already yesterday, but suddenly the washer doesnt want to power on, so I decided to checked on the inside of the timer switch, and noticed the busted fuse, so now im waiting for the replacement fuse. Cant seem to read the text on the fuse, its 1A, right?
How do you adjust the tension ln the new belts after installation
It self adjusts with an idler wheel.

Please let us know how it goes?
I have a 1971 Maytag washer and dryer combo. I did these belts in the washer, and it worked flawlessly.
Awesome, thanks so much Bruce😊👍

Thanks. Think I'll go change mine. Another sign of belts needing a change is when they start squeaking.
What happens if yhe big pulley only moves freely in one direction but only a little bit in the other direction?
Thanks I thought it would be a lot harder of a job
I’m glad it was easier😊
This video saved my butt! Very informative and helpful, thank you for posting!!!

That such an easy repair isn’t it?
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Yes it was far easier than actually replacing the pulley that one that one took some time
Hi, ty for tatoural. Is the belts universal? I have a Maytag model 9780635c
So are the belts just exposed in the back, or did you have to take a panel off?
The belts are under the unit. Easy to get to.
The search picture showed the model A882 washer that I have, however you're working on a different machine in the video. Are the mechanics the same?

Thanks for the video I had a question how many times do I let it spin before I can start putting clothes in ?
Maybe run it for 5 minutes first and then add clothes.

Can you send this same question plus your model number to my email at: scottthefixitguy@yahoo.com

I think it's over $100 now for a service call.
HUGE help! .........Thank you.
You’re very welcome 👍

Thanks Alvin, it might be the belt or the lid switch

I think that’s right👍
How do you find out the belt numbers for your washer? I have a top load Maytag washer built in 1993, the belt is slipping, I can hear it and smell it.
Thanks bud,
Just need to put your model number in a Google search along with the word belt and you’ll find a few different companies that sell it.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Thank you, much appreciated.
Do I have to reset the motor at all or just put on the belts and put it to spin?
You can just put on the new belts👍
Do you have a video of taking the front panel off bc I can't figure out how the clips go back on
Thanks Dakota,
Can you send me pictures of what clips you mean to: scottthefixitguy@yahoo.com
Will do be a couple days bc it's at my grandpa's and I'm back out of the area and thank for your help I'll get a photo
Is there anyway to tighten the belts?
Our only choice is to replace the worn out belts.
