Thanks for the explanation of what you are sending and transmitting, always liked your videos but for a non Morse guy it makes it far easier to understand the exchange and learn from it.
I appreciate that feedback Jimmy. That's what I was going for on this one. I know my audience are not all CW guys and wanted to acknowledge that. I probably won't do that every time but will try to keep it in the mix. There are even a few non-hams who sub my channel and watch just for the hiking. It's quite a diverse bunch.
Thanks Dennis. I really appreciate your friendship and humorous quips in the chat (nobody does them better lol). You've been very supportive along the way. #DenCo #HamdomThoughtsPodcastRocks
Excellent video Charlie👍 I appreciate the effort you put into shooting the video. I'm sure the camera didn't walk itself up the hill after getting the shots you needed 🤣 Well done OM 73!
Never enough videos of actual CW QSOs for us activators just learning CW. All CW lessons show flawless QSO's and this video showed how to handle traffic when there is some confusion. Let us in on the bands and frequencies you use too! I always wonder how traffic finds you. Unless all of your chasers find you from the SOTA alert and SOTA spot. Looking forward to checking out more from your channel. W6BFT.
Hi Brian - thank you and yes, the more CW the better huh? You are the second person to ask about me talking about the bands and frequencies I use. I have it on my list and will include in future video(s).
Love your video! Nice intro and music, informative, funny, dang you bring two batteries! Nice load out, tarp is a good idea, and audio recorder. Super informative play by play of the CW. Also, great use of links in the description.
Hi Brian! Hey that's a great compliment coming from you. Yeah, that second battery is small and doesn't add much weight. I always worry about a failure but it's never happened. Regarding the activation I'd much rather take what I had than what you had on that Granite Mountain activation last month. It's less fun when it's falling form the sky LOL!
I really appreciate the CW explanation for sure. I enjoyed watching you trudge through the snow. Brought back memories of my younger days. One time the snow was deep like that and had a frozen crust on top and the crust hit me mid thigh! after a number of miles I could hardly stand the pain of the ice hitting my let and was wishing for a horse. Thanks for the video... picked it up on QRZ DE KB7CQ 73
That was in Nevada near the Great Basin Park. If I remember it was near Snake creek area. I wish I was younger and strong again. The Mt. Wheeler peak is 13,000 feet. You can go to the upper camp ground at about the 10,000 foot level and the hike to the summit is about four miles on the trail to the top. That would be an awesome summit to log an event from. A tour of Lemans cave is a good time too.
This was a great video! I am learning CW...slowly😁 The procedure was a real mystery until this video. Seeing it in action instead of just taught really fills in the details. Thanks for the video! - K1NGZ
Hi Mike - thanks for your note and kind words. Best of luck to you learning Morse code. And HEY! You have an awesome RUclips channel. Fine work! I don't get over to the St David area much for any of my adventures. There's a lot to explore out that way that is untapped for me. Have fun. Stay safe. Red NJ7V
@@RedSummitRF Gonna be down on Padre Island most of the winter. Not a lot of summits there but I will get another POTA kilo on Padre Island National Searshore.
Heated gloves, or chemical hand warmers, are a godsend. It's a ton of work to do one of these activations, let alone all the work on the video. Good job.--K2UA
Charlie, Great video on CW comms. I enjoyed it. Looks like you had fun. I spent my day shoveling 24 inches of snow in Reading,Pa.not as much fun as you. Keep the videos coming. 73 KB3WAQ George
Hi George - man that sounds like work! 2' of snow isn't an easy chore when you are shoveling it. All I had to do was tromp through my 2' of snow. Stay warm and thank you for the note.
What a trudge up there...yikes. I love Beacon, so pretty no matter the season. That old Camelback you have, I have the very first "Mule" they ever made. Thanks for doing this for all of us😁
Dude! IZZO! What a positive influence you've been to all us RUclipsrs! Thanks man! I have my eye on a date for you to come on the AP/DZ and promote your own channel . . . oh, and talk about POTO, of course!

Brilliant video. That was clearly energy sapping walking through that deep snow and as a maker of RUclips videos myself I realise the number of times you must have walked back for the camera! Well done again and hope to work you on the bands one day. 73 Chris M0RSF
Awesome video. I enjoyed seeing your preps and gear. The explanation of the exchanges was fantastic! I've done one POTA and really want to get into the SOTA world. I was doing decent using CW, but it's been a couple of years and I haven't been practicing...shamefully. I love Az, was stationed at Ft. Huachuca from 88-92. 73 DE K4SFC
HI Ron - yeah Arizona weather is great in the winter isn't it! Thank you for the compliments. Glad you enjoyed it. I hope I get a chance to chase you on a summit. I'm a firm believer that the best way to practice is just dive right into on air CW exchanges. GL with your CW!
Hi there Shane! Yeah, post holing... If anybody would know about that I'm pretty sure it's you. It seems like every one of you videos on your AMAZING RUclips channel is in the snow. Thank you for following along buddy.
Thank you Malen - well I am not a snow plow like you but I'll take the compliment. Zep is going out the field this weekend I think. Thanks for sending it over. And I'm looking forward to your interview on the 14th on the AP/DZ. Talk to you soon.
Hey Rex! Coming from you that is a real compliment. I really appreciate you saying that. I'm itching to get over there to your neck of the woods to meet you, Adam, Dennis and whoever else. Damn Covid is a bastard. I hope somebody suggests a meet-up in the hills over there soon or I'll be forced to. Go in peace my friend 🖖
Good Job, I like to see guys with a few years on them doing this. At the age of 60 years old, it gives me motivation to get out and work portable. Please keep these kind of videos coming.
